FULL OF THE SPIRIT AND WISDOM / ACTS 6:3

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Acts 6:3

Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

Living Overflowing: What It Truly Means to Be Full of the Spirit and Wisdom

When the early church faced its first practical crisis—a dispute over the daily distribution of food—the apostles did not just look for good managers or efficient organizers. Instead, they set a standard that completely redefines how we view Christian service and leadership today.

In Acts 6:3, the apostles commanded the believers: “Therefore, brethren, seek out from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.”

This requirement reveals a profound truth: even the most practical, routine tasks in the kingdom of God require a supernatural condition of the heart.

The Continuing Condition: Full vs. Filled

To truly grasp what the apostles were looking for, we must understand the language of the New Testament. There is a vital distinction between being “filled” with the Spirit and being “full” of the Spirit.

  • Filled with the Spirit: This term is often used in scripture to describe a specific event or a sudden empowerment. It refers to receiving the initial baptism in the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:4) or being supernaturally empowered for a specific moment to speak or act under divine impulse (Acts 4:8).
  • Full of the Spirit: This phrase describes a continuing condition of the soul. It is the steady, daily result of an overflow of the Spirit’s presence and power. Men like Stephen and Barnabas were not just occasionally struck by divine inspiration; they lived in a constant state of spiritual overflow.

This ongoing fullness enables us to serve God with lasting effectiveness. It shapes our character, disciplines our minds, and ensures that our words honor Christ while carrying the weight of truth to those around us.

Guarding the Overflow

The apostles’ requirement implies something sobering: fullness is not automatic, nor is it guaranteed to last without faithfulness.

The pioneer leaders of the church had basis to assume that not all believers remained full of the Spirit. If we fail to walk intentionally under the guidance of God’s Spirit, if we compromise with our sinful human nature, or if we ignore the truths of Galatians 5:16-25, we will cease to be full.

Maintaining this spiritual overflow requires active cooperation with God. It means daily putting to death the desires of the flesh (Romans 8:13-14) and choosing to surrender our will to His. When we maintain a life that is consistently full of the Spirit, we remain positioned to receive fresh, specific fillings for the unique tasks God places before us.

Wisdom for Every Task

Notice that fullness of the Spirit is paired directly with wisdom. Spiritual fervor without wisdom can lead to zeal without knowledge. Conversely, human wisdom without the Spirit is powerless.

The early church needed leaders who could navigate cultural tension, manage resources, and care for hurting people with a divine perspective. Whether you are leading a ministry, managing a household, working in a corporate office, or serving behind the scenes, you need this exact combination.

God is still looking for people who prioritize their hidden walk with Him above their public talents. He is looking for those whose reputations are built on spiritual integrity and supernatural wisdom. Let us step away from relying on our own strength and learn to live from the overflow of His presence.

A Closing Prayer for a Life of Overflow

Heavenly Father,

We come before You today acknowledging our deep need for Your Holy Spirit and Your wisdom. Forgive us for the times we have tried to do Your work in our own strength, relying on our own intellect, talent, and energy. We recognize that even the most practical areas of our lives require Your supernatural grace.

Lord, we do not want to settle for occasional moments of inspiration; we long to be continually full of Your Spirit. We pray for a steady, daily overflow of Your presence and power in our lives. Help us to walk faithfully by Your guidance, to put to death the sinful desires of our human nature, and to live in a way that honors Christ in everything we do.

Grant us divine wisdom for the decisions ahead of us today. May our lives reflect a good reputation, rooted in truth and love, so that others may be convinced of Your message through us. Position us to serve Your kingdom with great effectiveness.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

JOSHUA TOOK THE ENTIRE LAND / JOSHUA 11:23

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Joshua 11:23

So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the Lord said unto Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance unto Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land rested from war.

Promises Fulfilled: The Power of Wholehearted Obedience

Have you ever stood at the finish line of a long, exhausting journey and looked back at everything it took to get there?

In Joshua 11:23, we hit that exact moment in the history of Israel. The text delivers a massive, sweeping summary of an entire generation’s blood, sweat, and tears:

“So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the Lord had said to Moses; and Joshua gave it as an inheritance to Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. Then the land rested from war.”

This single verse serves as the grand climax of the book of Joshua. Joshua 1-11 detail the grueling battles, the strategic marches, and the moments of intense faith required to conquer the promised territory. Joshua 12 goes on to provide a historical ledger—a roster of defeated kings—recounting the victories of both Moses and Joshua.

But here in Joshua 11, the writer pauses to give us the ultimate takeaway. When we look closely at this summary, we discover three powerful truths about the character of God and the nature of faith.

1. God Keeps His Word Absolutely

Centuries before Joshua drew a single sword, God made a covenant with Abraham. He renewed that promise to Moses. By the time Joshua takes the reins, the promise of a homeland seemed almost impossibly large. Yet, Joshua 11:23 explicitly notes that Joshua took the land “according to all that the Lord had said to Moses.” God did not forget a single word. His timelines may look different than ours, but His reliability is absolute. What He promises, He performs.

2. Victory Requires Complete Cooperation

While God guaranteed the victory, Joshua still had to show up to the battlefield. The text says “Joshua took the whole land.” It required wholehearted obedience, strategic planning, and relentless endurance. Joshua didn’t stop halfway. He didn’t leave the hardest territories untouched. Spiritual victory in our own lives often requires this same level of completion—refusing to leave pockets of compromise or fear in the corners of our hearts.

3. Obedience Leads to True Rest

The verse closes with a beautiful phrase: “Then the land rested from war.” The fighting was over; the inheritance was distributed. The struggles we face today are not meant to last forever. When we walk in obedience to God, fighting the battles He calls us to fight, He ultimately leads us into a season of rest.

As you look at the “lands” you are currently trying to conquer in your life—whether it is a difficult season, a personal struggle, or a major life transition—remember Joshua 11:23. God’s promises are secure, your obedience matters, and His rest is waiting for you on the other side of the battle.

A Closing Prayer for Victory and Rest

Heavenly Father,

We thank You that You are a God who keeps His promises. Just as You were faithful to Joshua and the people of Israel, we know You are faithful to us today. Forgive us for the times we let fear make our giants look bigger than Your power.

Give us the courage, endurance, and wholehearted obedience of Joshua. Help us to fully surrender every area of our lives to You, holding nothing back. We ask for Your strength to fight the battles before us today, trusting completely in Your victory.

We look forward with hope to the rest You have promised. Bring peace to our hearts, our homes, and our minds. We give You all the glory for the victories already won and the ones yet to come.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

LORD HARDENED THEIR HEARTS / JOSHUA 11:20

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Joshua 11:20

For it was of the Lord to harden their hearts, that they should come against Israel in battle, that he might destroy them utterly, and that they might have no favour, but that he might destroy them, as the Lord commanded Moses.

The Danger of a Hardened Heart: Understanding Joshua 11:20

We often love to focus on the attributes of God that bring us comfort: His boundless love, infinite mercy, and patient grace. However, Scripture also presents us with challenging passages that force us to look directly at His absolute holiness and righteous judgment. One such striking moment is found in the book of Joshua:

“For it was of the Lord to harden their hearts, that they should come against Israel in battle, that He might destroy them utterly, and that they might have no favor, but that He might destroy them, as the Lord had commanded Moses.” — Joshua 11:20 (NKJV)

At first glance, this verse can feel deeply uncomfortable. Why would a merciful God actively harden anyone’s heart?

To truly understand this sober warning, we have to look past the surface and examine the heavy reality of persistent human rebellion, divine patience, and the point where mercy gives way to certain justice.

1. God Exposes What Is Already Inside

A common misconception is that God forces innocent, soft-hearted people to turn against Him. Scripture reveals the exact opposite. The Canaanites had spent centuries building a culture of extreme, widespread wickedness, practicing horrific idolatry and systemic cruelty.

God does not infuse malice into a pure soul. Instead, when a person or a culture completely surrenders to evil, God steps back and brings their hidden rebellion entirely to the surface. He confronts them, and that holy confrontation exposes the deep-seated pride that was already operating in the dark.

2. The Multiplier Effect of Stubbornness

Have you ever noticed how a stubborn person reacts when they are caught red-handed? Often, rather than breaking down in apology, they double down on their defiance.

This is exactly what happens on a spiritual level. When people are already living in total, conscious rebellion against God, His direct confrontation makes them fiercely resist Him even more. Just as the sun softens wax but hardens clay, the exact same presence of God that leads a broken spirit to repentance will cause a proud, defiant heart to lock itself into an even tighter state of rebellion.

3. When Mercy Steps Down for Judgment

We must never forget that God’s patience with the inhabitants of the Promised Land was immense—He waited over 400 years for their sins to reach full measure before bringing judgment (Genesis 15:16). They had ample warnings; they heard of the miraculous parting of the Red Sea and the fall of Jericho, yet they chose war instead of surrender (Joshua 2:9-11).

Joshua 11:20 serves as a historic milestone of a terrifying spiritual reality: there can come a definitive time when a person, or an entire nation, becomes so aggressively wicked that God finally withdraws His extended mercy. When the divine umbrella of protection and restraint is pulled back, judgment becomes an absolute certainty. As the New Testament warns us in Hebrews 10:26-31, willfully trampling underfoot the grace of God leaves us facing a fearful expectation of righteous judgment.

Keeping Our Hearts Tender

The takeaway for us today is not to look back at history with detached curiosity, but to guard our own souls with holy fear. Every time we choose a small sin, ignore the conviction of the Holy Spirit, or justify our disobedience, we apply a thin layer of callousness to our hearts.

We must remain urgent in our repentance. Do not wait until tomorrow to surrender the areas where you are actively resisting God. Run to Him while His voice is loud, His mercy is available, and your heart is still capable of melting at His goodness.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

We come before You today with deep humility and reverence, recognizing that You are both a God of perfect mercy and a God of uncompromised justice. Lord, Your Word in Joshua 11:20 reminds us of how dangerous it is to coddle rebellion and resist Your voice. We ask right now that You would search our hearts. Cleanse us of any hidden pride, stubbornness, or willful disobedience that we have tried to keep covered.

Father, preserve us from a calloused spirit. Do not let us become numb to the conviction of Your Holy Spirit. We pray that You would smash the stone in our hearts and give us hearts of flesh—tender, responsive, and completely yielded to Your truth. Help us to live with a healthy, holy fear of Your Name, always running toward Your grace rather than trying to fight against Your sovereignty.

In the holy and mighty name of Jesus, we pray, Amen.

JOSHUA WAGED WAR FOR A LONG TIME / JOSHUA 11:18

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Joshua 11:18

Joshua made war a long time with all those kings.

Trusting God in the Long Wars of Life

We often view biblical victories as instant miracles. We remember the walls of Jericho falling after just one week. However, the full reality of walking with God is usually much different.

Joshua 11:18 reveals a gritty truth about spiritual victory: “Joshua waged war against all these kings for a long time.”

Conquering Canaan was not an overnight success. It required an extended series of grueling military campaigns lasting about five years. We know this by comparing Caleb’s age at the beginning of the conquest to his age when he received his inheritance in Hebron (Joshua 14:6-13; Deuteronomy 2:14).

If you are currently exhausted by a prolonged battle, Joshua’s journey offers three powerful truths to sustain your faith.

1. Delay Does Not Mean Denial

God promised Israel the land, but He did not hand it over in a single day.

  • Time tests our motives.
  • Waiting builds our endurance.
  • Slow progress keeps us dependent on God’s strength.

2. Victory Requires Daily Obedience

Joshua could not rely on yesterday’s miracles to win today’s battles.

  • Every new territory required fresh courage.
  • Strategic patience is a spiritual discipline.
  • Faithfulness matters most when progress feels invisible.

3. The Long Haul Prepares You for the Promise

If Israel had conquered the land instantly, they would not have had the capacity to maintain it.

  • The process shapes your character.
  • The struggle deepens your roots.
  • You become strong enough to sustain what God gives you.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for being faithful through every season of our lives. Forgive us for the times we grow impatient and demand instant victories. We confess that we are tired from the long wars we are fighting—in our health, our families, our careers, and our minds.

Grant us the endurance of Joshua. Help us to wake up each day ready to obey You, even when the final victory feels far away. Remind us that You are working behind the scenes during the long years of waiting. Strengthen our hands, protect our hearts from discouragement, and help us trust Your perfect timing.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

SUN STOOD STILL / JOSHUA 10:13

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Joshua 10:13

And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.

The Day the Sun Stood Still: Trusting the God of Extraordinary Answers

God can pause the universe to answer your prayers. In Joshua 10:13, we find one of the most breathtaking miracles in human history: “The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day.” Facing a fierce battle against the Amorites, Joshua needed more daylight to secure a complete victory. He didn’t offer a timid request; he boldly asked for the impossible, and God rewrote the laws of nature to respond.

When we look closely at this historic event, we find deep truths about God’s power and His willingness to hear our cries.

The Mechanics Don’t Matter to the Creator

Scripture does not detail the exact physics behind how God prolonged the daylight. Skeptics often argue about the cosmic chaos that would occur if the earth suddenly stopped spinning, but the mechanics are a simple task for the Architect of existence.

  • Slowing Earth’s Rotation: God could have smoothly slowed down the earth’s spin without disrupting gravity.
  • Axial Tilting: He could have tilted or turned the earth on its axis, mimicking polar regions where the sun naturally stays above the horizon for months.
  • Atmospheric Refraction: God could have supernaturally bent and refracted the sun’s rays to project light long after the sun had physically dipped below the horizon.

Ultimately, the exact method doesn’t change the truth. As Isaiah 38:7-8 reminds us, the God who created the earth and the heavenly bodies can easily suspend their natural movements for His own divine purposes.

An Extraordinary Answer to Prayer

The real heart of this passage isn’t the science; it is the intimacy. Joshua 10:14 emphasizes, “There has never been a day like it before or since, a day when the Lord listened to a human being.”

Joshua was moving in active obedience to God’s command. Because he was doing God’s work, he had the radical faith to ask for a cosmic intervention. Whatever method God chose to use that day, it stands as an eternal monument to the truth that the Creator of the universe fights for His people.

What is Your “Sun Stand Still” Request?

We often limit our prayers to what seems reasonable, safe, or logically possible. But Joshua’s prayer reminds us that we serve a God who is completely unbothered by the boundaries of natural law.

  • Are you facing an impossible deadline?
  • Do you need a miracle in your health, marriage, or finances?
  • Are you fighting a spiritual battle where time and resources seem to be running out?

Stop praying small prayers to a massive God. Bring Him your “sun stand still” requests. Step out in bold obedience, make your petition known, and watch how the Lord of hosts fights on your behalf.

A Closing Prayer for Radical Faith

Heavenly Father, Ruler of heaven and earth, You are the Almighty Creator who sets the stars in motion and holds the universe together in the palm of Your hand. Today, we are in awe of Your infinite power.

Forgive us for the times we have shrunk You down to the size of our problems. Lord, we want to possess the radical, unwavering faith of Joshua. Give us the courage to pray bold, audaciously big prayers that line up with Your perfect will. We thank You that You are not limited by our natural laws, our timelines, or our human limitations.

Whatever battles we are fighting right now, we hand them over to You. Extend Your favor, grant us Your strength, and show Yourself strong on our behalf. We trust that You hear our voices and that You are actively fighting for us. We praise You for the miracles You have already set in motion.

In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

JOSHUA SAID TO THE LORD / JOSHUA 10:12

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Joshua 10:12

Then spake Joshua to the Lord in the day when the Lord delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon.

Bold Faith: Praying for the Extraordinary in a Hostile World

We all face moments when the challenges before us look completely insurmountable. The opposition feels too heavy, the clock is ticking, and our human strength is simply not enough. In those moments, we are often tempted to shrink back, pray safe prayers, and settle for survival.

But scripture calls us to a completely different level of boldness.

In Joshua 10:12, we witness one of the most audacious prayers ever recorded: “On the day the Lord gave the Amorites over to Israel, Joshua said to the Lord in the presence of Israel: ‘Sun, stand still over Gibeon, and you, moon, over the Valley of Aijalon.'”

Joshua did not just pray for a good strategy or a bit of extra energy. He prayed for a cosmic miracle. He asked God to pause the universe so His people could secure the victory.

And God answered him.

The Reality of Our Battle

Jesus’ followers today live in a world that is deeply opposed and often openly hostile to our faith. We face cultural pressures, broken systems, chronic sickness, and spiritual warfare that threaten to derail us.

This environment presents daily difficulties. These challenges sometimes require nothing less than a miracle to overcome. Whether you need a breakthrough in your family, a door opened in your career, or supernatural healing, standard efforts will not always suffice to accomplish God’s plans and purposes in your life.

Stop Praying Safe Prayers

Too often, we hesitate to ask God for the extraordinary. We think our problems are too small for Him to care about, or too big for Him to fix. We treat prayer as a last resort rather than our greatest weapon.

Joshua’s bold request reminds us of who our God is. He is the Creator of the sun and the moon. He is not limited by natural laws, time, or human odds. When we pray timidly, we underestimate His power.

You have access to the exact same God who stopped the sun. Because of Jesus, you can approach His throne with supreme confidence. Do not hesitate to ask Him for the impossible. Bold prayers honor a big God.

Expect the Extraordinary

When you pray for a miracle, you are aligning your heart with God’s ultimate purpose. Joshua did not ask for a longer day just to enjoy the weather; he asked so that God’s covenant purposes would be fulfilled.

When your prayers align with God’s kingdom, you can expect Him to move. It might not always look like a sun standing still, but His supernatural intervention will always provide exactly what you need to overcome the hostility of this world.

Stop settling for ordinary outcomes when you serve an extraordinary God. Step out in faith, open your mouth, and pray for the miracle you need today.

A Closing Prayer for Bold Faith

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for being the God of the impossible. You hold the universe in your hands, yet You lean down to hear my prayers. Lord, I confess that I have often prayed small, safe prayers out of fear or doubt. Today, I choose to step out in the bold faith of Joshua.

You know the opposition, the hostility, and the challenges I am facing right now. I cannot overcome them in my own strength. I ask for Your supernatural intervention. Do the extraordinary in my life, my family, and my community. Break the chains, open the doors, and grant the breakthroughs that only You can provide.

Align my heart with Your purposes. Let Your power be displayed through my life so that others may see Your glory. Strengthen my faith to trust You when the night is long and the battle is fierce. I ask for a miracle today, believing that nothing is too difficult for You.

In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

DO NOT BE AFRAID OF THEM / JOSHUA 10:8

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Joshua 10:8

And the Lord said unto Joshua, Fear them not: for I have delivered them into thine hand; there shall not a man of them stand before thee.

Grace in Our Missteps: How God Redeems Our Broken Commitments

God’s faithfulness is greater than our failures, and He actively redeems our wrong turns when we honor Him with integrity.

When we make a major mistake, the enemy loves to whisper that we have permanently derailed God’s plan for our lives. We look at our poor judgment, our impulsive decisions, or the moments we forgot to seek the Lord, and we assume His blessing is gone. However, Scripture reveals a beautiful, comforting truth: even when we miss God’s perfect, ideal will, He frequently uses our failures as a canvas to showcase His overwhelming love, sovereign power, and unshakeable commitment to us.

The Blunder: Walking by Sight, Not by Faith

In Joshua 9, the leaders of Israel faced a turning point. A delegation from Gibeon arrived at their camp wearing tattered clothes and carrying moldy bread, claiming they traveled from a distant land. The Bible notes a critical, cautionary detail:

“The Israelites sampled their provisions but did not inquire of the Lord.” — Joshua 9:14

Relying entirely on human evaluation, Joshua made a binding peace treaty and covenant with them. Three days later, the truth emerged: the Gibeonites were actually local neighbors. Israel had been thoroughly deceived into an alliance that technically violated God’s original instructions for possessing the Promised Land.

The Pivot: Honoring a Messy Commitment

Joshua and the elders faced a massive dilemma. Should they break the oath because it was built on a deceptive lie?

Instead of compounding a mistake with another sin, Israel chose the path of integrity. They declared, “We have given them our oath by the Lord, the God of Israel, and we cannot touch them now… we will let them live, so that wrath will not fall on us for breaking the oath we swore to them” (Joshua 9:18-20).

They held fast to their word and commitment, refusing to take the easy way out. By choosing honor over convenience, they set the stage for God to unleash a miracle.

The Redemption: “Do Not Be Afraid”

Because Gibeon allied with Israel, a powerful coalition of five surrounding kings launched a massive attack against the city. Bound by their treaty, Joshua and his army marched all night to defend their deceptive new allies.

Joshua could have easily rationalized stepping back, viewing the attack as a convenient way for the enemy to wipe out his mistake. Instead, he marched into battle, and God met him there with profound assurance:

“The Lord said to Joshua, ‘Do not be afraid of them; I have given them into your hand. Not one of them will be able to withstand you.'” — Joshua 10:8

God did not abandon His people in the mess of their own making. He showed up supernaturally—hurling hailstones from heaven and even making the sun stand still to grant Israel a historic victory.

Key Takeaways for Your Walk

  • Integrity matters to God: When you make a bad decision, don’t sin your way out of it. Honor your commitments and handle the consequences with transparency.
  • God spins gold from our goofs: Our sovereign God specializes in taking our poor choices and rearranging them for our ultimate good and His highest glory.
  • Grace covers the gap: Missing God’s perfect will through a misstep is not the end of your story. If you pivot back to Him, His grace will meet you on the battlefield.

A Closing Prayer for Turning Points

Heavenly Father,

We come before You acknowledging that we do not always get it right. There are seasons where we jump ahead of You, rely on our own understanding, and make decisions without inquiring of Your wisdom. Lord, forgive us for the times we have missed Your perfect will.

Today, we thank You that our failures are never final in Your hands. Thank You for being a God who redeems our messups and honors our desire to walk with integrity, even when we are managing the consequences of a poor choice. When the enemies of fear, regret, and condemnation surround us, whisper Your truth directly to our hearts: “Do not be afraid.”

Give us the supernatural courage to stand firm, to keep our commitments, and to watch how You fight on our behalf. We trust Your unshakeable faithfulness and Your perfect love today.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

MAY GOD … BLESS US … THAT YOUR WAYS MAY BE KNOWN / PSALMS 67:1-2

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Psalms 67:1-2

Blessed to Be a Blessing: The Heart of Psalms 67

Have you ever wondered about the ultimate purpose of God’s blessings in your life? It is easy to view His favor, peace, and provision as gifts meant solely for our comfort. However, Scripture reveals a much larger, global vision behind every good thing God pours into our lives.

In Psalms 67:1-2, the psalmist captures this beautifully:

“May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face shine on us—that your ways may be known on earth, your salvation among all nations.”

When we ask for God’s blessing, we are not just praying for our own well-being. We are asking Him to use our lives as a platform to make His character known to a world that desperately needs Him.

A Promise Rooted in History

This stunning dynamic did not start with the psalmists. It reaches all the way back to God’s original covenant with Abraham in Genesis 12:1-3. God chose Abraham and promised to make his descendants a great nation, declaring, “I will bless you… and you will be a blessing.”

Later, this same heart was woven into the famous Aaronic blessing of Numbers 6:24-26. God’s ultimate desire was for the surrounding, ungodly nations to witness His extraordinary favor on Israel. He wanted the world to take notice, honor His name, and accept His standards of truth and righteousness. Israel was blessed to be a beacon.

Becoming a Living Witness

As followers of Jesus Christ, this same calling rests on us today. Jesus mirrored this truth in Matthew 5:14-16 when He called us the “light of the world” and urged us to let our light shine so that others might see our good deeds and glorify our Father in heaven.

We should actively pray for God to work through our families, our workplaces, and our everyday situations. When God provides for us, heals us, or guides us through a storm, it leaves an undeniable spiritual footprint. Our lives become a living testimony. When those who do not know Christ witness His love and presence in our actions, their hearts open to consider His truth and accept Him as Lord and Savior.

The Key to Effective Evangelism

The secret to reaching our communities and the world with the gospel is not clever marketing or human strategy. The key to effective evangelism is for God’s power and blessing to be visibly, obviously present with His people (Psalms 67:2, 7).

In the New Testament, this supernatural presence is fulfilled through the Holy Spirit. According to Galatians 3:14, the blessing of Abraham comes to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus so that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. God the Father has sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts (Galatians 4:6), giving us an internal source of divine power.

As Jesus promised in Acts 1:8, when the Holy Spirit comes upon us, we receive the exact power we need to spread the message of His love, forgiveness, and new life to the ends of the earth.

Let us shift our perspective on prayer. Let’s stop asking God to bless us just so we can be comfortable. Instead, let’s ask Him to bless us so that the earth will be filled with the knowledge of His glory.

A Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

We thank You for Your overwhelming grace and the intentional way You love us. We ask today that You would bless us, protect us, and cause Your face to shine brightly upon our lives. Fill us afresh with Your Holy Spirit, just as You promised, and let Your power be clearly visible in everything we do.

Lord, we do not ask for Your favor out of selfishness. We ask for Your blessings so that Your ways may be known across the earth and Your saving power recognized among all nations. Work through our families, our struggles, and our victories. May our lives reflect Your love, guidance, and healing so clearly that those around us are drawn to Your truth. Empower us to be faithful witnesses of the new life found only in Jesus Christ.

In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

IF I HAD CHERISHED SIN / PSALMS 66:18

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Psalms 66:18

If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:

The Silent Barrier to Your Prayers

Have you ever felt like your prayers were bouncing off the ceiling? You look for answers, but you meet absolute silence. While God always hears us, Scripture reveals that we can accidentally build a wall between our hearts and His throne.

The secret to breaking this silence sits in a sobering truth from the Old Testament: “If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened” (Psalms 66:18).

What Does it Mean to “Cherish” Sin?

To cherish something means to protect it, hold it close, and value it. In this verse, King David is not talking about stumbling into an accidental mistake. He is talking about a heart posture.

Cherishing sin means:

  • Hiding it from others and refusing to confess it to God.
  • Making excuses for behaviors that oppose God’s commands.
  • Entertaining thoughts or habits that we know grieve the Holy Spirit.

When we take pleasure in things that go against God’s Word, we disrupt our fellowship with Him. We cannot hold hands with sin while reaching out for God’s blessings.

Holy Living Brings Heavenly Power

God calls His people to a higher standard. He wants us to avoid and separate ourselves from ungodly behavior. This is not to restrict our fun, but to protect our relationship with Him.

The New Testament echoes this timeless principle across multiple books:

  • Separation: We are called to clean living and true worship (2 Corinthians 6:14-18).
  • Motives: Selfish desires block the answers to our prayers (James 4:3).
  • Obedience: We receive what we ask because we keep His commands (1 John 3:22).

Only when we surrender our hidden faults can we fully experience His favor. True spiritual power flows when our hearts align with His commands.

Cleaning the Channel

If your prayer life feels dry, it is time for an honest heart check. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any cherished sins. Confession clears the channel. God is not looking for flawless people, but He desires honest, repentant hearts ready to turn away from compromise.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Search my heart today. Reveal any hidden areas where I am tolerating or cherishing sin. Forgive me for the times I have valued my own desires above your holy standards. I do not want anything to stand between us or block my prayers.

Holy Spirit, give me the strength to turn away from ungodly behavior and live a life separated for your glory. Wash me clean and restore the joy of my salvation. Let my prayers be pure, my motives be right, and my life be a reflection of your love.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

COME AND SEE WHAT GOD HAS DONE / PSALMS 66:5

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Psalms 66:5

By terrible things in righteousness wilt thou answer us, O God of our salvation; who art the confidence of all the ends of the earth, and of them that are afar off upon the sea:

Come and See: Living as a Witness to God’s Power

Have you ever witnessed something so incredible that you instantly texted a friend or called a family member just to say, “You have to see this”? We naturally love to share moments of awe and wonder.

In Psalms 66:5, the psalmist extends a powerful invitation to the world: “Come and see what God has done, his awesome deeds for mankind!”

This invitation is not just a historical recap of ancient miracles. It is a blueprint for how the body of Christ should live today. A community of godly people should be so marked by the presence and power of the Holy Spirit that their everyday lives compel others to stop, look, and wonder.

Settle for Nothing Less Than His Power

Too often, we content ourselves with a routine, comfortable faith. We get used to going through the motions, forgetting that the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives inside of us.

God’s people should never settle for a powerless religion. We are called to be a living canvas for the full display of God’s supernatural power. This power manifests in restored marriages, broken addictions, supernatural peace during grief, and radical generosity. When the Church operates in the fullness of the Spirit, it becomes a beacon of hope.

A Tangible Proof to a Searching World

Why is this display of power so vital? Because a skeptical, hurting world is looking for reality, not just rhetoric.

When spiritually lost people encounter a community genuinely transformed by the Holy Spirit, arguments melt away. They see that Christ’s message is not just a philosophy, but a living truth. Seeing God’s power in action convinces people that His ability to change their own lives is entirely real. Your transformed life might be the very evidence someone else needs to believe.

Make it Personal

While corporate displays of power are vital, faith must also be communicated on a deeply personal level. Later in the same chapter, Psalms 66:16 says, “Come and listen, all you who fear God; let me tell you what he has done for me.”

Evangelism does not require a theology degree. It requires a willingness to talk about God’s continual, daily care in your life. Tell others about the quiet comfort He gave you during a lonely night. Share how He provided exactly what you needed when finances were tight. When we share our personal stories of God’s faithfulness, we bridge the gap between a distant concept of God and a close, personal Savior.

Let us live in such a way that our actions, our love, and our supernatural peace provoke a question from the world, allowing us to joyfully reply: “Come and see what God has done.”

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

We thank You for Your awesome deeds and Your unceasing faithfulness to mankind. Forgive us for the times we have settled for a form of godliness but denied its power. Today, we ask for a fresh outpouring of Your Holy Spirit upon our lives and our community.

Let Your power be fully displayed in us. Heal what is broken, restore what is lost, and fill us with a supernatural love that confounds the world. Give us the boldness to speak openly about Your daily care, so that our lives point directly to Jesus. May our words and actions constantly invite those around us to come, see, and know Your life-changing truth.

In Jesus’ mighty name we pray, Amen.
