NOT A MAN THAT HE SHOULD LIE … CHANGE HIS MIND / NUMBERS 23:19

(KJV) Numbers 23:19

God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should change His mind. This powerful truth from Numbers 23:19 anchors our faith in a world where human promises are routinely broken. People are fickle, but God is completely dependable. Let’s explore the deep, beautiful mystery of His unchanging character and His responsive heart.

By His very nature, God is completely faithful to His covenants. He is not unreliable, foolish, or prone to random mood swings.

• Perfect Integrity: God cannot deceive because His character defines absolute truth.
• Flawless Execution: What He speaks, He brings to pass without delay or failure.
• Eternal Consistency: His ultimate redemptive purposes remain fixed from age to age.

While God’s eternal nature is unchangeable, He is not a cold, mechanical machine. His unwavering commitment to righteousness means He dynamically interacts with human choices. He adjusts His relational plans under specific, holy circumstances:

1. The Intercession of His People
   When Moses pleaded for Israel in Exodus 32:11, the Lord relented from the fierce disaster He threatened. Faithful prayer moves the hand of God.
2. The Repentance of the Wicked
   When the city of Nineveh repented in sackcloth and ashes, God changed His mind regarding their destruction as detailed in Jonah 3:1-10; Jonah 4:2.

Note: God’s shifting of a decree is not a correction of a mistake, but rather a righteous response to a change in human posture.

Heavenly Father,

Lord, we thank You that Your ears are open to our cries. Thank You that You honor the intercession of Your saints and welcome the repentance of those who turn to You. Help us to rest securely in Your unchanging love while remaining bold in our prayers. Transform our hearts to align perfectly with Your holy will.
