We live in a culture that is visually saturated. Every day, thousands of images compete for our attention, often pushing boundaries and redefining normalcy. What was once considered taboo is now mainstream. Amid this shift, the words of the Apostle Peter in 2 Peter 2:14 serve as a stark, urgent wake-up call for believers today.

Peter describes a specific group of corrupt individuals as having “eyes full of adultery.”

When we unpack the original Greek context, this phrase literally translates to “eyes full of an adulteress.” It describes a mind so consumed by sensual desire that every woman encountered is immediately filtered through a lens of lust and viewed primarily as a sexual object.

This is not a passive glance. It is an active, continuous entertainment of lust that corrupts the soul.

Peter’s warning feels incredibly modern. Today, society increasingly accepts, celebrates, and profits from this exact type of visual deviance. From targeted social media algorithms to mainstream entertainment, we are encouraged to consume people as objects rather than honor them as image-bearers of God.

When your eyes are “full of adultery,” your spiritual vision becomes entirely blinded. You can no longer see people through the lens of grace, purity, or divine worth. Instead, the heart becomes trapped in a cycle of constant seeking and never finding satisfaction.

As a community Guided by Grace, we are called to live differently. We cannot stop the culture from drifting, but we can stop our hearts from drifting with it. Living under grace does not mean we have a license to look wherever we want; rather, grace gives us the supernatural power to discipline our eyes.

Here are three ways to shift your focus from lust to grace:

• Practice Custody of the Eyes: Job 31:1 says, “I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a young woman.” Make a conscious decision to look away from images and media that trigger objectification.
• See People as Image-Bearers: Force yourself to see others as God sees them—as complex, valuable human beings with souls, families, and divine purpose, not as objects for personal gratification.
• Fill Your Mind with Truth: The best way to empty your eyes of adultery is to fill them with the beauty of Christ. Spend time in the Word so that your standard of beauty and satisfaction is anchored in the eternal, not the fleeting.

Grace is not just a safety net for when we fall; it is the power that enables us to stand. Let us ask God today to cleanse our vision, heal our hearts, and give us eyes that reflect His purity and love.
