YOUR BODIES WILL FALL / NUMBERS 14:29

(KJV) Numbers 14:29

Your carcases shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward which have murmured against me.

The New Testament states clearly that God intended His judgment on Israel at that point in their journey to serve as a warning for all believers (1 Corinthians 10:11).

1. The Israelites had the good news preached to them (Hebrews 4:6), were redeemed by the blood (Exodus 6:6; 12:13) and passed through the Red Sea (Exodus 14:21-22). They were baptized (compare Exodus 14:19-20; Exodus 14:29-30 with 1 Corinthians 10:2), ate spiritual food (Exodus 16:4; 1 Corinthians 10:3) and drank spiritual drink, the living water of Christ (1 Corinthians 10:4). They were also led by the Holy Spirit (Numbers 11:17-25).
2. In spite of this redemption and experience of grace, the people grumbled against God (Numbers 14:2, 27), hardened their hearts (Hebrews 3:8), rebelled against Him (Numbers 14:2, 9), treated Him with disrespect and unbelief (Numbers 14:11; Numbers 14:23), tested Him (Numbers 14:22), disobeyed His commands (Numbers 14:41) and turned away from following Him (Numbers 14:43). 
3. Their disobedience brought on them God’s wrath (1 Corinthians 10:5-10; Hebrews 3:10, 17), death and destruction (Numbers 14:29, 35), failure to enter the land of Canaan (Numbers 14:22-23) and loss of the presence of God’s rest (Psalms 95:7-11; Hebrews 3:11, 18).
4. Because of Israel’s failure in the desert, believers are encouraged to “see to it … that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God” (Hebrews 3:12) and fails to “enter that rest,” heaven (Hebrews 4:11).
