WHO KEEPS HIS OATH EVEN WHEN IT HURTS / PSALMS 15:4

(KJV) Psalms 15:4

 In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honoureth them that fear the Lord. He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not.

God puts the highest priority on personal integrity (character, honesty, honor, faithfulness) as it relates to keeping our promises and commitments – to God and to others (Deuteronomy 23:21-23). It is better not to make promises than to make and then break them. God is a person of His word, and He expects His followers to be people of their word. This was true in the Old Testament, and it is still true for New Testament believers. Few things give Christianity a bad reputation faster than those who claim to follow Christ but who have been known to lie and break their commitments. Some examples of how we break commitments include not paying our bills on time; not giving our best efforts at home, school or work; or not being honest in our relationships with others. We must follow through on our promises and commitments, even when they turn out to be more difficult than we expected.
