(KJV) Isaiah 6:1

In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.

THE YEAR THAT KING UZZIAH DIED – I SAW THE LORD / ISAIAH 6:1

THE YEAR THAT KING UZZIAH DIED

The year was approximately 740 B.C. (2 Chronicles 26:16-21). Though Isaiah may have prophesied earlier (Isaiah 1-5), he now received an awe-inspiring vision of God. During this vivid and powerful encounter with the Almighty, Isaiah experienced a spiritual cleansing and received a specific commission (a duty and the power of authority needed to fulfill that duty) to deliver God’s message to a spiritually blind, deaf and insensitive people (Isaiah 6:9-10).

I SAW THE LORD

The vision gave Isaiah a clear understanding of his message and his purpose. It revealed one of the major messages of this book: God’s glory, majesty and holiness (purity, perfection, completeness and separation from evil) demand that those who serve God must be holy. People in the church today also need to see God in this way – as a holy and all-powerful King and Judge (Isaiah 6:3, 5) – recognizing their need for His sanctifying (spiritually purifying and setting apart for God’s purposes) work in their lives. People who see themselves in light of God’s holiness should be willing to confess their own impurity and allow Him to cleanse their minds and spirits so He can use them for any purpose He desires (Isaiah 6:5-8; Revelation 1:13-17).
