HOLY SPIRIT … TO THOSE WHO OBEY HIM / ACTS 5:32

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Acts 5:32

And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.

Living in the Flow: Why the Holy Spirit Demands Our Obedience

Many of us long for the full, dynamic power of the Holy Spirit in our daily lives. We pray for revival, ask for spiritual gifts, and long to feel God’s presence. Yet, a crucial truth is often overlooked in modern faith conversations: the Holy Spirit is not a resource to be used, but a Ruler to be obeyed.

Scripture draws an unbreakable line between the power of the Spirit and the submission of the believer.

The Divine Condition: Acts 5:32

In Acts 5:32, Peter delivers a bold, uncompromising statement to the religious authorities: “We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.”

Acts 5:32 reveals a fundamental kingdom principle. The Holy Spirit is given—and continuously flows through—those who walk in active obedience.

If there is no real obedience to Christ, or an earnest effort to pursue what is right by His standards, any claim to have the fullness of the Holy Spirit is invalid. We cannot separate the Spirit’s power from the Savior’s standards. God’s kingdom is defined by righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit (Romans 14:17), and our primary pursuit must be His righteousness first (Matthew 6:33).

Power Requires Submission

It is simply not possible to live continually in the power of the baptism in the Spirit without submitting to the lordship of Christ. To ask for the Spirit’s power while rejecting Christ’s leadership and authority is a contradiction.

Early believers understood this intimately. In Acts 2:28-42, we see that the outpouring of the Spirit immediately led to a lifestyle of radical submission—devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching, breaking bread, praying, and aligning their lives entirely under Christ’s authority.

The Spirit in all His power is reserved for those living in the “obedience that comes from faith” (Romans 1:5). This is not a legalistic, performance-based obedience. It is a heart-level surrender that says, “Lord, because I trust You, I will follow You.”

If you find yourself feeling spiritually dry, powerless, or distant from God, look closely at your path. Is there an area where you have withheld your obedience? Surrender that area today, step under His lordship, and watch the living water of the Spirit begin to flow freely once again.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for the incredible gift of Your Holy Spirit, who comforts, guides, and empowers us. Lord, convict our hearts where we have sought Your power without submitting to Your authority. We confess that we cannot walk in the fullness of the Spirit while holding onto our own way.

Forgive us for areas of compromise and disobedience. Today, we choose to submit afresh to the lordship of Jesus Christ. Give us the grace, courage, and strength to live in the obedience that comes from faith. Let Your Spirit flow unhindered through our lives so that we may honor Your standards and advance Your kingdom. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

OBEY GOD RATHER THAN MEN / ACTS 5:29-30

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Acts 5:29-30

Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men. 30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.

Standing Firm: Why We Must Obey God Rather Than Men

One of the greatest questions facing every Christian today is not, “Is this particular thing or activity convenient, pleasurable, or popular with people?” Instead, the ultimate question is, “Is this particular thing or activity right with God—is it what He desires?”

As Paul boldly reminds us in Galatians 1:10, those who make it their life’s aim to please people will never be able to truly serve and please God. Living out our faith requires an unwavering compass. When the expectations of the world collide with the commands of Scripture, our allegiance must remain clear.

The Ultimate Boundary: Acts 5:29-30

In Acts 5, the apostles found themselves in direct conflict with the religious and political authorities of their day. They had been strictly commanded to stop teaching in the name of Jesus. Yet, filled with the Holy Spirit, they refused to back down.

When brought before the high priest to answer for their defiance, Peter and the other apostles delivered a definitive line in the sand:

“Peter and the other apostles replied: ‘We must obey God rather than human beings! The God of our ancestors raised Jesus from the dead—whom you had killed by hanging him on a cross.'”Acts 5:29-30 (NIV)

Peter did not offer a polite compromise. He did not look for a middle ground to avoid conflict or protect his reputation. He drew a sharp contrast between human demands and divine mandates. The apostles understood that God’s authority reigns supreme over any earthly power.

The Cost of Pleasing People

It is easy to default to people-pleasing. We naturally desire approval, peace, and comfort. However, culture is a shifting sand. What society celebrates today, it may condemn tomorrow.

If we anchor our morality and our actions to human consensus, we will constantly compromise our convictions. True Christian integrity means doing what is right in the eyes of God, even when it makes us unpopular, misunderstood, or isolated in the eyes of the world.

Obeying God over men is not about being needlessly argumentative or rebellious. It is about deep, loving loyalty to the Creator who redeemed us. The apostles could stand firmly before their accusers because they were anchored by a historic, life-altering truth: the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Because Jesus conquered the grave, He holds the final word over our lives.

Living with Holy Courage

Choosing divine obedience over human approval will cost you something. It might cost a friendship, a business opportunity, or social status. But the reward of walking in alignment with God’s will far outweighs any earthly loss.

When you face your next crossroad—whether at work, in your relationships, or in your private thoughts—ask yourself: Whose approval am I seeking?

Let us choose to be a people who stand firm, speak truth in love, and proudly declare through our actions that we serve a higher King.

A Closing Prayer for Strength and Obedience

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the powerful example of the early church and the boldness of the apostles. Lord, You know how easily we can fall into the trap of seeking human approval. Forgive us for the times we have stayed silent or compromised our faith just to fit in or keep the peace.

Fill us with the Holy Spirit today. Grant us the courage of Peter to declare that we must obey You rather than men. When the world pressures us to compromise, anchor our hearts securely in Your truth. Give us the discernment to know what pleases You and the holy boldness to carry it out, no matter the cost. May our lives bring glory to the name of Jesus, our risen Savior, Amen.

FULL MESSAGE / ACTS 5:20

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Acts 5:20

Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.

Embracing the Full Message: Complete Freedom in Christ

When the religious leaders imprisoned the apostles for preaching the gospel, God sent an angel to stage a supernatural jailbreak. But the angel’s instructions weren’t to run and hide.

Instead, the angel gave a bold command: “Go, stand in the temple courts and tell the people the full message of this new life.” (Acts 5:20).

The angel did not tell them to share a watered-down, comfortable version of the truth. They were called to proclaim the “full message”—the complete, unedited reality of what Jesus Christ accomplished on the cross.

What is the “Full Message”?

It is easy to minimize the gospel into a simple ticket to heaven. While eternal security is an incredible promise, the “full message” of Christ encompasses so much more. It is a declaration of complete salvation and freedom for the whole person—spirit, soul, and body.

  • Total Forgiveness: It begins with the wiping away of sins (Acts 13:38). Your past is erased, your guilt is removed, and you are made completely righteous in God’s eyes.
  • Physical and Emotional Healing: Jesus did not just carry our sins; He carried our brokenness. The full benefits of His sacrifice include healing for our bodies and comfort for our minds.
  • Spiritual Freedom: The full message breaks every chain. It offers absolute deliverance from spiritual oppression, fear, anxiety, and every kind of spiritual trouble.

Holding Nothing Back

The apostles went straight back to the temple courts at daybreak. They refused to hold back because they knew a partial gospel cannot bring complete freedom.

Today, God is calling us to live in—and share—the same full reality. We do not have to live with partial freedom or settled-for peace. Jesus paid the ultimate price to redeem the whole person. Embrace the full scope of His sacrifice today.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the full message of new life through Your Son, Jesus Christ. Thank You that Your salvation is not partial, but complete. We receive the full benefits of the cross today: the total forgiveness of our sins, the healing of our bodies, and absolute freedom from every spiritual burden, fear, or oppression. Give us the boldness of the apostles to stand firm, hold nothing back, and live out the fullness of this new life. May Your power be on display in us and through us.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

ALL OF THEM WERE HEALED / ACTS 5:15-16

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Acts 15:15-16

Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.16 There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed everyone.

All of Them Were Healed: The Overflowing Power of God’s Kingdom

Have you ever met someone so full of joy, peace, or energy that it felt contagious? Just being near them lifts your spirits. In the early church, the apostles carried something infinitely greater. They were so entirely filled and overflowing with the presence of the Holy Spirit that God’s miraculous power traveled with them wherever they stepped.

In Acts 5:15-16, we witness one of the most astounding displays of divine power in the New Testament:

“As a result, people brought the sick into the streets and laid them on beds and mats so that at least Peter’s shadow might fall on some of them as he passed by. Crowds gathered also from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing their sick and those tormented by impure spirits, and all of them were healed.”

The Power of a Point of Contact

Think about that imagery. People were lining the streets just hoping Peter’s shadow would brush against them.

Of course, Peter’s shadow had no magical properties. A shadow is simply the absence of light caused by an object blocking a source. The shadow itself couldn’t fix a broken bone or cure a disease. Neither did the aprons and handkerchiefs that touched Paul in Acts 19:12, nor the hem of Jesus’ cloak in Matthew 9:20.

These material elements were simply points of contact. When a desperate individual reached out—or lay waiting in the street—and mixed that point of contact with genuine faith, it unlocked the supernatural presence of God. It proved that the smallest shred of faith, meeting the absolute fullness of the Spirit, is enough to rewrite a person’s reality.

Continuing the Ministry of Jesus

These dramatic miracles were not random acts of showmanship. They were direct evidence that Jesus’ disciples were successfully continuing the exact work of their Master. They did just as their Lord had done: they healed the sick and emancipated those tormented by evil spirits (Mark 1:34).

This uniform, widespread healing—where all of them were healed—served as a massive billboard to the ancient world. It declared that the Kingdom of God had officially arrived, and it was operating with unquenchable power.

Our Invitation Today

God has not changed, and His desire to see people set free from the bondages of sickness and spiritual oppression remains the same. Acts 4:30 reminds us that it is always pleasing to God when we boldly pray for Him to stretch out His hand to heal and perform signs and wonders through the name of Jesus.

We are called to be those same vessels today. When we allow ourselves to be filled to overflowing with the Holy Spirit, we become walking points of contact for a hurting world. God wants His presence to go wherever you go—into your workplace, your home, your grocery store, and your neighborhood—breaking chains and bringing wholeness.

A Closing Prayer for Healing and Empowerment

Heavenly Father,

We come before You in awe of Your unchanging, miraculous power. Just as You poured out Your Holy Spirit upon the early church, we ask that You fill us to overflowing today. Let Your presence be so tangible in our lives that we carry Your light, peace, and healing virtue into every room we walk into.

Lord, we pray according to Your Word in Acts 4:30. Stretch out Your hand to heal. We lift up every person reading this who is currently tormented by sickness, pain, or spiritual oppression. By the authority of Jesus’ name, we pray for complete wholeness. Free those who are troubled. Restore those who are broken.

Increase our faith, Lord. Help us to be bold points of contact for Your Kingdom so that a hurting world can encounter Your love and power. Let Your Kingdom come and Your will be done in us and through us.

In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray, Amen.

GREAT FEAR SEIZED THE WHOLE CHURCH / ACTS 5:11

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Acts 5:11

And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.

The Missing Element in Modern Faith: Why “Great Fear” is Essential for the Church

We live in a culture that loves to talk about the casual, comfortable aspects of faith. We readily embrace God as our friend, our comforter, and our provider. While He is all of those things, modern Christianity has largely forgotten another foundational truth: God is holy, and He is a consuming fire.

When we look back at the early Church in the Book of Acts, we find a community that experienced explosive growth, undeniable miracles, and the raw power of the Holy Spirit. However, they also experienced something else that kept them grounded in truth—a profound, holy awe.

The Shocking Reality of Acts 5

In Acts 5:1–11, we encounter one of the most sobering accounts in the entire New Testament. A married couple, Ananias and Sapphira, sold a piece of property. They wanted the public reputation of being radically generous, so they brought a portion of the money to the apostles, claiming it was the full amount.

They weren’t killed for keeping their money; they were judged for their calculated hypocrisy and for lying to the Holy Spirit. When their deception was exposed, both dropped dead on the spot.

The immediate result is recorded in Acts 5:11:

“Great fear seized the whole church and all who heard about these events.”

[ Sin of Hypocrisy ] ──> [ Swift Divine Judgment ] ──> [ Great Fear & Humility ]

What Does it Mean to Fear the Lord?

This “great fear” was not a paralyzing terror that caused the believers to run away from God. Instead, it was an immediate response of deep humility and reverent awe.

  • Holy Awe: A profound recognition of God’s absolute purity and sovereignty.
  • True Accountability: A waking awareness that we cannot wear spiritual masks before an all-knowing Creator.
  • Right Alignment: Understanding that while God is slow to anger, His judgment against intentional, unrepentant sin is entirely justified.

The Consequence of Losing Holy Fear

Without a proper fear of God and His justified anger against sin, God’s people will soon conform to the ungodly ways of the world. When a church treats God’s grace as a license to compromise, the spiritual landscape changes drastically:

  • Conformity to the World: We begin tolerating the very sins that Christ died to break.
  • Quenching the Spirit: We cease to experience the power, benefits, and miraculous presence of the Holy Spirit.
  • Loss of Favor: We find ourselves operating in our own strength, cut off from God’s divine mercy, protection, and supernatural favor.

The fear of the Lord was not an Old Testament relic that expired at the cross. It was a necessary, vibrant element of New Testament faith, and it must be restored as a non-negotiable part of Biblical Christianity today. True intimacy with God requires us to honor Him not just as Savior, but as the Holy Sovereign King.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

We come before You today with humble hearts, acknowledging Your absolute holiness, majesty, and power. Lord, forgive us for the times we have treated Your grace casually or allowed the apathy of this world to dull our spiritual sight.

We ask You to restore a right, biblical fear of the Lord within our hearts and within the modern Church. Strip away all spiritual pretense, hypocrisy, and hidden compromise. Search our hearts today, and expose any area where we are trying to manage our image rather than walking in total surrender to You.

Let a holy awe and reverence seize us once again. May we live with a constant awareness of our accountability to You, our Almighty God. Do not let us conform to this world, but let Your Holy Spirit pour out His power, miracles, and favor in our lives as we walk in truth, integrity, and reverence.

In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray, Amen.

ANANIAS FELL DOWN AND DIED / ACTS 5:5

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Acts 5:5

And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.

The Danger of Spiritual Performance: Understanding the Judgment of Ananias and Sapphira

The story of Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 5 is one of the most jarring accounts in the New Testament. In a season where the early Church was experiencing radical unity, supernatural generosity, and rapid growth, this couple suddenly fell dead at the feet of the Apostles.

Their crime? It wasn’t that they kept a portion of the money from their land sale. The land belonged to them, and the money was theirs to use. Their fatal sin was deceit. They presented a false picture of their sacrifice, pretending to give the entire amount to God while secretly holding some back.

Acts 5:5 and Acts 5:10 reveal a sobering truth: God struck down Ananias and Sapphira to expose His deep hatred of deceit and dishonesty within His kingdom.

The Offense of Spiritual Hypocrisy

One of the most offensive sins a person can commit is projecting a false image of their relationship with Jesus Christ, or exaggerating the work they do for His sake.

When we engage in religious hypocrisy, we are guilty of a profound betrayal:

  • Self-Glorification: We use the personal, agonizing sacrifice of Christ on the cross to secure human applause for ourselves.
  • Opposing Christ’s Purpose: Jesus suffered and died to make us holy, blameless, and authentic (Ephesians 1:4; Hebrews 13:12). Faking holiness directly opposes the very reason He shed His blood.
  • Grieving the Spirit: This level of calculated deception dishonors the Holy Spirit and treats His presence with casual disregard (Acts 5:3).

The Loss of Holy Fear

The sudden judgment in the early Church sent shockwaves through the community. Acts 5:11 notes that “great fear came upon all the church and upon all who heard these things.”

Ananias and Sapphira operated under the dangerous assumption that God was not watching, or that He did not care about the purity of their motives. Their actions reflected a complete absence of the holy fear and awe of the Lord. When the Church loses its awe of God’s holiness, it opens the door to casual sin and counterfeit devotion.

God’s judgment on this couple was a protective boundary for the infant Church. It served as a stark reminder that while God is rich in mercy, He will not tolerate the pollution of His sanctuary with cheap, performative spirituality. Such an offense ultimately invites His corrective judgment.

Examining Our Hearts

This passage is not meant to make us doubt our salvation, but it is meant to make us examine our motives.

  • Do we alter the truth to look more spiritual in front of other believers?
  • Do we want the reputation of being generous without the actual heart of sacrifice?

Let us strive to be a people of transparent faith, preferring the quiet approval of an all-seeing God over the loud, temporary praise of men.

A Prayer for Authenticity and Holy Fear

Heavenly Father,

We come before You with hearts humbled by the holiness of Your presence. Forgive us for the times we have cared more about looking holy to others than actually being holy before You. Cleanse us from the temptation of spiritual performance, vanity, and deceit.

Holy Spirit, search our hearts today. Root out any hypocrisy, double-mindedness, or false piety. We ask that You restore a deep, reverent, and holy fear of the Lord within our lives and within Your Church. Remind us daily of the immense price Jesus paid to make us pure.

Help us to live transparently, walk honestly, and serve You with a sincere heart that seeks only Your glory, not our own. May our public witness match our private devotion.

In the holy and precious name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

WHAT MADE YOU THINK OF DOING SUCH A THING?

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Acts 5:4

Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

What Made You Think of Doing Such a Thing?

We live in a culture obsessed with image. We swipe through curated feeds, admire perfectly styled lives, and subconsciously calculate how to win the approval of others. It is easy to fool people on the outside. But scripture reminds us that God looks directly at the heart.

In Acts 5, we encounter a chilling question posed by the Apostle Peter to a man named Ananias: “What made you think of doing such a thing?” (Acts 5:4).

The story of Ananias and his wife, Sapphira, is one of the most sobering accounts in the New Testament. They sold a piece of property and brought a portion of the money to the apostles, claiming it was the entire sale price. They wanted the reputation of being radical, sacrificial givers without actually making the sacrifice.

Their tragedy offers a profound warning about the quiet dangers that lurk within our own hearts.

The Root Cause: Money and Praise

On the surface, Ananias and Sapphira appeared generous. But their action was deeply corrupted. The root cause of their sin against God was twofold: the love of money and the hunger for human praise.

They wanted to keep their wealth, but they also coveted the spiritual status of those who gave everything. This deadly combination set them in direct opposition to the Holy Spirit.

When Peter confronted Ananias, he didn’t just call it a white lie. He asked, “How is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit?” (Acts 5:3).

The Open Door to Evil

Once the love of money, power, and applause takes hold of a person, their spirit becomes vulnerable. Scripture is clear about this progression:

  • An Open Door: “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.” (1 Timothy 6:10)
  • A Divided Heart: A person cannot love wealth and at the same time love and serve God. Jesus stated plainly, “No one can serve two masters… You cannot serve both God and money.” (Matthew 6:24)

Ananias and Sapphira allowed a small seed of greed and pride to grow. It eventually cost them their lives. They cared more about looking holy than being holy.

Examining Our Own Hearts

Peter’s question echoes down through the centuries to us today: What makes us think of doing such things?

Whenever we exaggerate our achievements, manipulate the truth to look better, or hold onto resources that God has called us to share, we walk in the same footsteps. God does not demand our perfection, but He does require our honesty. He desires truth in the inward parts.

Let us guard our hearts against the toxic mix of greed and pride. May we seek the approval of the Father alone, finding true security in His love rather than the fleeting applause of the world.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

We come before You today asking You to search our hearts. Forgive us for the times we have cared more about the praise of people than Your approval. Forgive us for the moments we have gripped our money and possessions tightly out of fear or greed.

Holy Spirit, root out any hypocrisy living inside us. Do not let Satan fill our hearts with deception. Deliver us from the temptation to perform our faith for an audience. Grant us the grace to be authentic, transparent, and truly generous.

We choose to serve You above all else. May our lives be a true reflection of Your love, lived out with pure motives and clean hands.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

LIED TO THE HOLY SPIRIT / ACTS 5:3

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Acts 5:3

But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?

The Cost of Compromise: Understanding Acts 5:3 and the Danger of Deceit

We live in a culture obsessed with image. From curated social media feeds to carefully crafted professional personas, it is easier than ever to present a version of ourselves that looks flawless on the outside.

But what happens when that desire for human applause creeps into our walk with God?

The story of Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 5 serves as a jarring, sobering reminder that while humans look at the outward appearance, God looks directly at the heart.

The Illusion of Devotion

In the early church, a beautiful wave of generosity was taking place. Believers were selling their lands and houses, bringing the proceeds to the apostles, and distributing them to anyone in need. Barnabas had just sold a field and given every single penny to the church, earning deep respect from the community.

Ananias and Sapphira saw the honor Barnabas received, and they wanted it for themselves.

They decided to sell a piece of property, but secretively kept back a portion of the money for themselves. There was nothing inherently wrong with keeping some of the money—it was their property to use as they pleased. The sin was not in the amount they kept; the sin was in the illusion they created.

They brought a fraction of the price to the apostles, pretending it was the full amount. They wanted the reputation of being radical, sacrificial givers without paying the actual price.

A Serious Offense Against the Spirit

When Ananias walked in with the money, the Apostle Peter didn’t praise his generosity. Instead, guided by the Holy Spirit, Peter asked a piercing question:

“Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land?” Acts 5:3

Peter explicitly highlights two vital truths in this passage:

  • Lying to the Holy Spirit is lying to God. In Acts 5:3-4, Peter uses “lied to the Holy Spirit” and “lied to God” interchangeably. This is a profound defense of the deity of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit is not a vague force; He is a person of the Trinity who hears, grieves, and knows our innermost thoughts.
  • The root of deceit is pride. Ananias and Sapphira were driven by a selfish desire for recognition. They cared more about what the church thought of them than what God knew about them.

The consequences were immediate and terrifying. Both Ananias, and later his wife Sapphira, fell dead at the feet of the apostles. Great fear gripped the entire church—and for good reason. God used this moment as a divine boundary line at the very beginning of the church age, establishing His absolute intolerance for hypocrisy, selfish pride, and deceit among those who claim to be Spirit-filled followers of Christ.

The Call to Radical Authenticity

The deaths of Ananias and Sapphira are not just historical footnotes; they are active warnings for us today.

God does not demand perfection from us, but He does demand authenticity. He would rather we bring our small, honest offerings with a sincere heart than a massive, fake sacrifice designed to make ourselves look good.

When we pretend to be more spiritually mature, more generous, or more put-together than we actually are, we fall into the same trap. We trade the genuine approval of a holy God for the fleeting praise of people.

Let us inspect our hearts today. Are we living in the light of absolute honesty before God, or are we keeping back “part of the price” while pretending to give Him our all?

A Closing Prayer for Sincerity and Truth

Heavenly Father, You are a God of absolute truth, and nothing is hidden from Your sight. Forgive us for the times we have cared more about human recognition than Your approval. Purge our hearts of all hypocrisy, pride, and deceit.

Holy Spirit, search us and know us. If there is any area where we are living a double life or pretending to be something we are not, expose it and lead us to repentance. We ask that You fill us with a spirit of radical authenticity. Grant us the grace to live transparently before You and our community, holding nothing back, and seeking only to bring glory to Your holy name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

WITH GREAT POWER / ACTS 4:33

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Acts 4:33

And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.

WITH GREAT POWER / ACTS 4:33

Unleashing the Witness: What it Means to Walk in “Great Power” (Acts 4:33)

What changes a group of frightened, hiding disciples into a force that transforms the world?

The answer is found in Acts 4:33: “And with great power the apostles gave their witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all.”

“Great power” is the defining characteristic of Spirit-filled preaching and witnessing. It is not about human talent, charisma, or clever arguments. It is the supernatural backing of the Holy Spirit.

Here are three reasons why this great power marks true, Spirit-filled witnessing.

1. It is Firmly Rooted in God’s Word

The witness of the early church pioneers was not based on personal opinions. They stood firmly on the scripture.

In Acts 4:29, the believers prayed, “Grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness.” Their confidence came straight from the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

When you know you are speaking God’s truth, your voice shifts from hesitant to bold. Power flows when we stop sharing our own ideas and start sharing His unchanging Word.

2. It Carries the Authority of Jesus Christ

The disciples possessed an unshakeable awareness of their divine commissioning. They knew exactly who sent them.

They were chosen by Jesus Christ Himself—the One who conquered death, rose from the grave, and promised to work through them.

You do not speak on your own authority. You are an ambassador for the King of Kings. This realization eliminates the fear of man and replaces it with holy confidence.

3. It Brings the Conviction of the Holy Spirit

True power is seen in the heart of the listener. When the disciples spoke, the Holy Spirit brought intense conviction to the crowd (Acts 4:31).

The Spirit exposes our deepest needs and convinces us of spiritual truth. As Jesus promised in John 16:8-11, the Holy Spirit convicts the world in three distinct ways:

  • Sin: Revealing that we are guilty of offending God and desperately need a Savior.
  • Righteousness: Showing that Jesus provided the only right way to God.
  • Judgment: Reminding us that everyone is ultimately accountable to God.

Preaching with power does not just entertain. It convicts, corrects, and heals.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for the blueprint of the early church and the reminder of where true power comes from. We confess that we often try to do Your work in our own strength. Forgive us, Lord. Fill us fresh today with the Holy Spirit. Grant us the boldness to speak Your Word without fear. Remind us daily that we are sent by the resurrected Savior, Jesus Christ. Let Your Spirit move through our words to bring conviction, salvation, and transformation to those around us. May Your great grace be upon us all. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

HEAL AND PERFORM MIRACULOUS SIGNS AND WONDERS /ACTS 4:30

(KJV) Acts 4:30

By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.

HEAL AND PERFORM MIRACULOUS SIGNS AND WONDERS /ACTS 4:30

Power and Proclamation: Why Preaching and Miracles Belong Together

Preaching the gospel and experiencing the supernatural are not two separate ministries. They are the twin engines of the early Church. In the Book of Acts, we never see a powerless proclamation. Instead, we see a dynamic partnership: the word of Christ is spoken, and the power of Christ confirms it.

The Biblical Pattern of Signs and Wonders

Throughout the New Testament, miracles served a very specific purpose. They were not for entertainment, but for confirmation.

  • Miraculous Signs: These are supernatural acts that verify the presence of godly power, give warning, or encourage faith. As “signs,” they point away from themselves and draw people’s attention to Jesus Christ and His message (Acts 14:3; Mark 16:9-20).
  • Wonders: These refer to unusual events that cause people to marvel, forcing them to look past the human instrument to the divine power operating behind the supernatural act.

We see this pattern repeated continuously in the early Church:

  • Acts 3:1-10 & Acts 4:8-22: A lame beggar is healed, leading directly to a powerful sermon by Peter and thousands coming to faith.
  • Acts 4:29-33: The church explicitly prays for boldness and that God would stretch out His hand to heal.
  • Acts 5:12-16 & Acts 6:7-8: Signs and wonders multiply through the apostles and Stephen, causing the Word of God to spread rapidly.
  • Acts 8:6; Acts 15:12; & Acts 20:7: From Samaria to the ends of the earth, Philip, Paul, and Barnabas see crowds pay close attention to the gospel because they hear and see the signs being performed.

The Prayer for Our Generation

In Acts 4:30, the early believers cried out to God, asking Him to “stretch out your hand to heal and perform signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus.”

They did not rely on human eloquence or clever marketing. They knew that facing opposition required divine validation. As the Church today faces the unique challenges of the last days before Christ returns, our strategy must not change. We desperately need to pray that God will confirm His true message with great power, miracles, and godly favor (Acts 4:33).

Intellectual arguments alone will not awaken a spiritually dead world. Only when we proclaim the message of Christ in the power of His Spirit will we be able to break through the noise and reach this spiritually lost generation for Christ. Let us stop separating the message from the power, and start praying for both.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You are the same yesterday, today, and forever. Your power has not diminished, and Your arm is not too short to save. We ask that You grant Your Church today the same boldness You gave the early believers. Lord, stretch out Your hand to heal and perform miraculous signs and wonders through the name of Your holy servant Jesus.

Forgive us for where we have relied on human wisdom instead of Your Holy Spirit. Let our preaching not be with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power. Confirm Your message in our communities. Wake up this generation to the reality of Your love and the truth of Your gospel. May people see Your wonders, marvel at Your goodness, and turn their hearts to Jesus Christ. In His mighty name, we pray. Amen.
