YOUR FAITH … PROVED GENUINE / 1 PETER 1:7

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) 1 Peter 1:7

These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.

Your Faith… Proved Genuine

We all face seasons that catch us off guard. Unexpected hardships, personal loss, or the quiet, heavy burden of staying true to Christ in a world that opposes Him can leave us feeling overwhelmed. During these moments, it is natural to ask why the road feels so narrow and rocky.

The Apostle Peter addresses this directly. Throughout his first letter, he emphasizes a challenging theme: suffering for our faith and continuously doing good, even when it hurts (1 Peter 2:19-23). Peter does not minimize our pain. Instead, he offers a radical perspective on why these seasons matter.

The Purpose Behind the Crucible

In 1 Peter 1:6, we are encouraged to rejoice in our difficulties and trials. This joy is not a denial of grief, but a deep assurance of purpose. Tough times are not meant to destroy us; they are meant to purify us.

Peter beautifully illustrates this using the image of a goldsmith:

“These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.”1 Peter 1:7

Think about how gold is refined. It is placed directly into the intense heat of a furnace. As the metal melts, the hidden impurities rise to the surface so the craftsman can scrape them away. When the fire finishes its work, the gold is pure, resilient, and highly valuable.

Greater Worth Than Gold

If earthly gold—which will eventually fade away—is worth refining with fire, how much more precious is your eternal faith?

Remaining faithful to Christ through intense trials burns away our self-reliance, our superficial attachments, and our doubts. The fire reveals a faith that is sturdy and real. This proven, genuine faith brings immense reward. It results in praise, glory, and honor both to the believer and to the Lord Jesus when He returns.

When the weight of your current circumstances feels too heavy to bear, look ahead to that coming day. As the Apostle Paul reminds us in Romans 8:18, our present sufferings are not even worth comparing to the breathtaking glory that will be revealed in us. Your pain has an expiration date, but your purified faith will shine forever.

Trust the Goldsmith. He has not abandoned you in the furnace; He is watching over the fire to bring forth true gold.

A Closing Prayer for a Refined Faith

Heavenly Father,

We come to You acknowledging that the trials of this life can feel heavy and exhausting. Lord, when the fires of difficulty rise, protect our hearts from bitterness and despair. Help us to remember that You are the Master Goldsmith, and that You never waste our pain.

Purify our hearts and strengthen our resolve. Let the hidden impurities of doubt, fear, and pride burn away, leaving behind a faith that is proven genuine. When we are tempted to give up, anchor our minds in the eternal weight of glory that waits for us. We trust that our present sufferings pale in comparison to the joy of seeing You face to face.

May our lives bring ultimate praise, glory, and honor to Jesus Christ both now and on the day of His return.

In Jesus’ precious name we pray, Amen.

THROUGH FAITH ARE SHIELDED BY GOD’S POWER / 1 PETER 1:5

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

Shielded by His Might: The Threefold Promise of 1 Peter 1:5

In moments of deep testing, the soul naturally looks for a secure hiding place. The apostle Peter wrote his first letter to believers scattered across Asia Minor who were enduring fierce trials and intense persecution. They felt vulnerable, exposed, and deeply threatened.

To these weary saints, Peter offered a powerful anchor of hope in 1 Peter 1:5, declaring that we “through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.”

This single verse unfolds three profound truths regarding the spiritual safety and ultimate security of every believer.

1. The Source of Our Safety: Shielded by God’s Power

Peter uses a military term for “shielded,” which means to be garrisoned or guarded by a fortress of soldiers. As believers, we are not left defenseless against the forces of evil that seek to destroy our testimony and rob us of our peace.

Our ultimate protection does not come from our own strength, intellect, or strategy. It comes directly from the omnipotent power of God. The same power that raised Jesus Christ from the dead is the very power garrisoned around your soul.

“The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom.”2 Timothy 4:18

2. The Channel of Protection: Through Faith

While God’s power is infinite, the verse highlights a vital condition: this protection operates “through faith.” Just as we are initially saved by grace through faith, we continue to walk in divine protection by maintaining an active, vibrant trust in God.

God’s special guarding over our lives is not an automatic cosmic insurance policy. It requires a heart of total surrender. To experience His continuous guidance, we must actively entrust the leadership of our lives to Christ, pursue His holy purposes, and remain rooted in His truth.

“Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine.”John 15:4

3. The Ultimate Destination: Perfect Salvation

What is the final goal of this divine protection? Peter points us directly to our final inheritance: “the salvation of your souls.”

Salvation is a past reality when we first believed, a present process as we grow in sanctification, and a future certainty. God shields us today so that we will safely cross the finish line tomorrow. The trials you face today cannot checkpoint the inheritance waiting for you in eternity. Your future is secure because the One holding it is faithful.

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes.”Romans 1:16

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

We praise You for being our fortress, our high tower, and our deliverer. Thank You that even when the storms of life rage around us, our souls are completely garrisoned by Your sovereign power. Forgive us for the times we rely on our own strength instead of resting in Your omnipotence.

Lord, we ask that You strengthen our faith today. Help us to maintain an active, unshakeable trust in Jesus Christ, surrendering our wills to His perfect leadership. Give us the endurance to pursue Your purposes, knowing that You are holding us fast.

Thank You for the beautiful inheritance that waits for us in heaven. Keep our eyes fixed on that future glory, and comfort our hearts with the absolute assurance that nothing can separate us from Your love. We commit our lives, our trials, and our futures into Your hands.

In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.

THE FOREKNOWLEDGE OF GOD – GOD THE FATHER … THE SPIRIT … JESUS CHRIIST / 1 PETER 1:2

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) 1 Peter 1:2

who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to be obedient to Jesus Christ and sprinkled with his blood:

THE FOREKNOWLEDGE OF GOD – GOD THE FATHER … THE SPIRIT … JESUS CHRIIST / 1 PETER 1:2

THE FOREKNOWLEDGE OF GOD

We are “chosen” to be God’s people according to His “foreknowledge.” This means that just as God knows all things, He has always known how He would work out His plan to save people spiritually and restore them to a right relationship with Him through the work of His Son, Jesus. This plan was in effect even before creation and human history began (1 Peter 1:20; Revelation 13:8).

  1. This does not mean that God determined who would be spiritually saved and who would be eternally condemned. Though God knows all things, He has given us a free will to choose whether or not to accept and follow Him. That is to say, though God knows the choices we will make, He does not cause us to make those particular choices.
  2. Foreknowledge, as used in this passage, is a synonym (a work of similar meaning, a substitute word) for God’s sovereign (supreme and independent) choice to love and set aside for Himself a people who would know Him personally and serve His purposes (Romans 8:29). In a general sense, this “people” is the church as a whole (all true followers of Christ; Ephesians 1:4; 2:4; 1 John 4:19). The church is the object of God’s love and choosing. God determined before human history that the church would be made up of people who are redeemed (purchased and restored to a right relationship with God) through Jesus’ sacrifice for sins so they would be prepared to serve His purposes. The church body includes only individual believers who respond to Christ by surrendering their lives to Him in faith and devotion. They continue to be part of God’s chosen people as they choose to remain loyal to Christ and live securely in His purposes for their lives (2 Peter 1:5, 10).

GOD THE FATHER … THE SPIRIT … JESUS CHRIST

All three persons of the Trinity (the one true God in three distinct, interrelated and unified persons) are described here as having part in God’s plan of redemption (spiritual salvation, restoration) and bringing people into a right and obedient relationship with God (Mark 1:11).

JESUS HAD KNOWN FROM THE BEGINNING / JOHN 6:64

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) John 6:64

Yet there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus had known from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray him.

JESUS HAD KNOWN FROM THE BEGINNING / JOHN 6:64

It is not completely clear what “the beginning” means. This may mean that Jesus always knew the strong pull in Judas’ character toward wrong behaviors and what he would do. Or it may refer to the point in time when Judas began to drift from his original faith and formed plans to betray Him. Either way, Judas had the same choice as the other eleven disciples. Perhaps he was never completely committed to Jesus, but it seems as if Judas truly believed at first because he is described as a close, trusted friend of Jesus (Psalms 41:9; John 13:18). Jesus had made Himself and His power available to all of His disciples, including Judas (John 2:23-24; Matthew 10:1-15). However, at some point Judas became disappointed in his expectations of Christ and turned away by his own choice (Acts 1:25) – he did not have to betray Jesus. Though it was specifically prophesied that Jesus would be betrayed, the specific traitor, or betrayer, was not predestined or predetermined. Judas’ choice to yield to the enemy and the resulting tragedy serves as a warning to every follower of Christ. We must never allow friendship with the world to turn us away from devotion to Christ (Hebrews 10:29; 12:25; James 4:4).

EATS MY FLESH AND DRINKS MY BLOOD / JOHN 6:54

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) John 6:54

Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.

EATS MY FLESH AND DRINKS MY BLOOD / JOHN 6:54

We receive spiritual life by actively believing in Christ and sharing in the life-restoring benefits of His death on the cross for our sins (Romans 3:24-25; 1 John 1:7). We continue to experience His life as we remain in a close personal relationship with Christ and His Word. Compare John 6:53 with John 6:63, where He says, “The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life,” and John 6:35, where He says, “I am the bread of life.” We are fed spiritually and share Christ’s life as we continue to trust Him, spending consistent time in prayer and building our lives on God’s Word.

  1. Jesus is the living Word (John 1:1-5); the Bible is the written Word (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:21). Jesus calls Himself the “bread of life” (John 6:35), and on other occasions He relates this bread to the Word of God: “Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4). In this way, we eat His flesh, and we grow in a relationship with Him; this happens as we receive and respond to (obey) God’s Word (John 6:63).
  2. We are spiritually saved by God’s grace (His undeserved favor, love, spiritual enablement) and by the Spirit’s life-transforming power when we first hear, receive and respond to God’s Word (John 1:12; Acts 2:41). We continue to experience the benefits of salvation by remaining in a devoted relationship with Christ and by continuing to feed on God’s Word. We are to read, obey and absorb its truths into our hearts (1 Timothy 4:13-16: James 1:21). It is spiritually fatal to pull away from a relationship with Christ or to neglect His Word.
  3. This passage is not a direct reference to “the Lord’s Supper” (the church sacrament of communion). Jesus is not teaching that receiving communion is necessary for eternal life or that this ceremony somehow gives us the benefits of salvation. He clearly states throughout this passage that faith is the key element (John 6:35; John 6:40; John 6:47; John 6:51).

THE FATHER … DRAWS HIM / JOHN 6:44

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) John 6:44

No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

THE FATHER … DRAWS HIM / JOHN 6:44

The Father draws people to Jesus through the Holy Spirit, who opens people’s minds to God’s truth. The Holy Spirit convinces their consciences of the presence of sin in their lives and their need for God (John 16:8-11). God’s invitation goes out to all people, as Jesus says: “I … will draw all men” (John 12:32). But this offer does not mean we must accept the invitation; we can reject it if we choose (Matthew 23:37, “but you were not willing”). This shows the importance of responding to God’s Spirit. If we ever sense something drawing us to God, it is a dangerous thing to resist because we cannot bring ourselves to Him whenever and however we please. We can respond to God only by His grace (undeserved favor, God-given ability, John 6:65).

MY FATHER’S WILL / JOHN 6:40

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) John 6:40

And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

MY FATHER’S WILL / JOHN 6:40

God’s will is His desires and plans based on His character and purposes. Therefore, it is important to understand the relationship of God’s will to human responsibility.

  1. It is not God’s will that any believer should turn from a commitment to Him and fall “away from grace” (Galatians 5:4), separating himself or herself from God. For that matter, it is not God’s will that any individual should perish (2 Peter 3:9) or fail to accept the truth that can save them from spiritual death (1 Timothy 2:4).
  2. However, there is a great difference between God’s perfect will and His permissive will – what He desires and what He allows because of our choices. He does not take away or deny the human responsibility to repent and trust Christ, even if it means that so many people will reject Him and miss His perfect will for their lives (Luke 19:41).
  3. God’s plan and desire to raise His people up at the last day (to bring their bodies to life in a way that they will live forever with Christ) does not release us from the responsibility of obeying His Word and following Him now (John 10:27; 14:21). For those who continue to obey and follow Him, death cannot destroy the life that Christ gives.

I WILL NEVER DRIVE AWAY / JOHN 6:37

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) John 6:37

All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

I WILL NEVER DRIVE AWAY / JOHN 6:37

No matter who you are, where you have been or what you have experienced in life, Christ will accept you if you come to Him in humility. Jesus promises to welcome all who come to Him in true repentance and faith (those who trust Him enough to admit and turn from their own sinful way and then entrust the leadership of their lives to Him). Those who come to Jesus do not come in their own power; rather, they come in response to the grace God has given to them (John 6:44).

I AM THE BREAD OF LIFE / JOHN 6:35

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) John 6:35

And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

I AM THE BREAD OF LIFE / JOHN 6:35

This is the first of the seven “I am” statements of Jesus recorded in John’s Gospel, each one focusing on an important aspect of Jesus’ personal ministry. This statement tells us that Christ is the one who sustains and nourishes our spiritual life (John 6:53). The other (I am) statements are: “the light of the world” (John 8:12), “the gate” (John 10:9), “the good shepherd” (John 10:11, 14), “the resurrection and the life” (John 11:25), “the true vine” (John 15:1, 5),

MIRACLES / JOHN 6:1-2

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) John 6:1-2

After these things Jesus went over the sea of Galilee, which is the sea of Tiberias. And a great multitude followed him, because they saw his miracles which he did on them that were diseased.

MIRACLES / JOHN 6:1-2

  1. What are miracles? (a) They are works of supernatural origin and power (Greek dunamis; Acts 8:13; 19:11). (b) They function as a sign or mark (Greek semeion) of authority from God (John 2:11; Luke 23:8-11; Acts 4:16, 30, 33). The central and greatest miracle of the New Testament is the resurrection of Christ (1 Corinthians 15).
  2. Miracles serve at least three purposes in God’s kingdom. (a) They honor Jesus Christ, verifying the truth of His message and proving His identity as God’s Son and our Savior (John 2:23; 5:1-21; 10:25; 11:42). (b) They express Christ’s compassionate love (Mark 8:2; Luke 7:12-15; Acts 10:38). (c)They signify the opportunity for salvation (Matthew 11:2), the coming of God’s kingdom and God’s power over and invasion into Satan’s kingdom.
  3. God’s Word teaches that miracles are to continue through His followers in the church. (a) Jesus sent out His followers to preach and perform miracles (Matthew 10:7-8; Mark 3:14; Mark 3:15; Luke 9:1-2). (b) Jesus declared that those who believed in Him through the preaching of His Word were to do the works that He did and would do even greater things (John 14:12; Mark 16:15-20). (c)The book of Acts records many miracles done in and through the lives of His followers (Acts 3:1; 5:12; 6:8; 8:6; 9:32; 15:12; 20:7).In other places in the New Testament, these are called “signs” that confirm the truth of Christ’s message (Acts 4:29-30; 14:3; Romans 15:18-19; 2 Corinthians 12:12; Hebrews 2:3-4). (d) The Holy Spirit wants to continue showing these signs in and through the church today (1 Corinthians 12:8-12, 28; James 5:14-15).
  4. The New Testament also teaches that supernatural signs and wonders will be performed by the power of Satan trough false teachers and preachers, especially by the antichrist and his false prophet.
