(KJV) Leviticus 1:4

And he shall put his hand upon the head of the burnt offering; and it shall be accepted for him to make atonement for him.

LAY HIS HAND ON / LEVITICUS 1:4

An Israelite who sacrificed an animal leaned on the animal to show that he identified himself with it as his substitute. Because the animal was taking the place of the person, this act expressed the idea of substitution (Leviticus 16:21-22; 24:14). When the animal died, it was as if the person who brought it also died. In truth, the person was offering his life to serve God’s purposes. In a similar way, those who entrust themselves to Christ are identifying with His death (Romans 6:3-11; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Hebrews 9:14), and they leave their old sinful way of life behind. They also identify with His resurrection from the dead (Romans 8:10-11; Philippians 3:10). As a result, they present themselves “as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God” (Romans 12:1; Hebrews 13:15).
