DISARMED THE POWERS AND AUTHORITIES / COLOSSIANS 2:15
Through His death and resurrection, Christ triumphed over all the demonic forces and satanic powers of the world (Ephesians 6:12). He stripped them of their power to hold men and women captive to the control of evil against their will (Colossians 1:13; Matthew 12:29; Luke 10:18; 11:20-22; Hebrews 2:14). Christ’s “triumphing over them” literally means “leading them in a triumphant procession,” which is a military image of a general leading his captives through the city streets so all can see the evidence of complete victory (2 Corinthians 2:14). God’s people share in Christ’s triumph. They not only gain victory over the world and temptation (1 John 4:4), but they also possess the power to wage war against the spiritual forces of evil (Ephesians 6:12).
