(KJV) Isaiah 6:13

But yet in it shall be a tenth, and it shall return, and shall be eaten: as a teil tree, and as an oak, whose substance is in them, when they cast their leaves: so the holy seed shall be the substance thereof.

THE HOLY SEED / ISAIAH 6:13

God encouraged Isaiah by telling him that a few faithful people would believe and respond to his message and be spared from the destruction that would come to those who would come to those who would resist. Through this new Judah, God would work out His plan of salvation for the world, bringing people of all nations back into a right relationship with God. Even today, when God judges a spiritually rebellious and ineffective church, God will preserve and work through those who remain faithful and holy – spiritually pure, separated from evil and dedicated to God and His Word.

GO AND TELL THIS PEOPLE / ISAIAH 6:9

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Isaiah 6:9

And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not.

GO AND TELL THIS PEOPLE / ISAIAH 6:9

God told Isaiah that the people would reject his message and remain unresponsive to his firm challenge. God was calling them to turn from their sin and return to following God. But He knew they would resist. In fact, Isaiah’s preaching would cause the rebellious people to resist God even more (Isaiah 6:9-10; Matthew 4:12; Luke 8:10). They would choose to remain spiritually blind, even though the truth was made clear to them. Still, Isaiah had to remain faithful to God by preaching the unpopular message of judgment (Jeremiah 1:8, 19; Ezekiel 2:3-4). There would be a limit to Isaiah’s distressing ministry. The judgments God executed on His people through Sennacherib of Assyria in 701 B.C (Isaiah 6:11-12) would bring Jerusalem back to faith and obedience to God (Isaiah 36:21; 37:7). As a result, Isaiah would be able to have a new ministry – with a more positive and hopeful message – during the additional 15 years God granted to King Hezekiah (Isaiah 38:5).

WHOM SHALL I SEND? / ISAIAH 6:8

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Isaiah 6:8

Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.

WHOM SHALL I SEND? / ISAIAH 6:8

Only after God had purified and prepared him spiritually was Isaiah commissioned or given a duty and the authority needed to perform that duty, as a prophet. This passage reminds us of the Great Commission Jesus gave His followers before He left the earth and returned to heaven. He commanded us to spread His message of hope and spiritual salvation to the entire world (Matthew 28:18-20), starting right where we are. God is always looking for willing individuals to take His gospel – His “good news” – to people who still need to hear about and receive His forgiveness and new life. If we take God’s command seriously, we must respond in the same way as Isaiah, “Here am I. Send me!”

WOE TO ME / ISAIAH 6:5

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Isaiah 6:5

Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.

WOE TO ME / ISAIAH 6:5

In full view of God’s holiness, Isaiah instantly realized his own sinfulness, uncleanness and unworthiness, especially in speaking for God and delivering His message to others (James 3:1-6). He also suddenly realized the fearful consequences that could have resulted from seeing God face to face (Exodus 33:20). But instead of allowing His humble servant to be destroyed, God purified Isaiah’s mouth and heart (Leviticus 16:12; Jeremiah 1:9), making him fit to remain in God’s presence and serve as His prophet. All who want to experience God’s powerful presence and serve His highest purposes must have their sins forgiven and their hearts cleansed by God’s Holy Spirit (Hebrews 10:19-22). Only God can truly purify us and make us worthy to fulfill His perfect plans.

(KJV) Isaiah 6:2

Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.

SERAPHS / ISAIAH 6:2

Seraphs are angelic beings with the awe-inspiring privilege of directly attending God. Seraphs could possibly be identified with heavenly creatures described elsewhere in Scripture (Revelation 4:6-9). Their title (literally, “burning ones”) perhaps suggests their purity, since they are the ones who serve God around His throne and inspire those in God’s presence to worship Him. They so directly reflect God’s glory that they seem to be on fire.

THE YEAR THAT KING UZZIAH DIED – I SAW THE LORD / ISAIAH 6:1

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Isaiah 6:1

In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.

THE YEAR THAT KING UZZIAH DIED – I SAW THE LORD / ISAIAH 6:1

THE YEAR THAT KING UZZIAH DIED

The year was approximately 740 B.C. (2 Chronicles 26:16-21). Though Isaiah may have prophesied earlier (Isaiah 1-5), he now received an awe-inspiring vision of God. During this vivid and powerful encounter with the Almighty, Isaiah experienced a spiritual cleansing and received a specific commission (a duty and the power of authority needed to fulfill that duty) to deliver God’s message to a spiritually blind, deaf and insensitive people (Isaiah 6:9-10).

I SAW THE LORD

The vision gave Isaiah a clear understanding of his message and his purpose. It revealed one of the major messages of this book: God’s glory, majesty and holiness (purity, perfection, completeness and separation from evil) demand that those who serve God must be holy. People in the church today also need to see God in this way – as a holy and all-powerful King and Judge (Isaiah 6:3, 5) – recognizing their need for His sanctifying (spiritually purifying and setting apart for God’s purposes) work in their lives. People who see themselves in light of God’s holiness should be willing to confess their own impurity and allow Him to cleanse their minds and spirits so He can use them for any purpose He desires (Isaiah 6:5-8; Revelation 1:13-17).

VIRGIN WILL BE WITH CHILD … IMMANUEL / ISAIAH 7:14

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Isaiah 7:14

Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

VIRGIN WILL BE WITH CHILD … IMMANUEL / ISAIAH 7:14

“Virgin” (Hebrew almah) can mean either one who has had no sexual relations or “a young woman before marriage.” Usually both meanings applied when this word was used. This sign had both immediate and future applications.

  1. The immediate application referred to a new bride, who would have been a virgin until the time of her marriage. Before her son was old enough to know right from wrong, the kings of Aram and Israel would be destroyed (Isaiah 7:16).
  2. This prophecy’s final and highest fulfillment came through the virgin birth of Jesus Christ (Matthew 1:23). Mary was a virgin and remined a virgin until after she gave birth to Jesus (Matthew 1:18, 25). Jesus was conceived through a miracle of the Holy Spirit rather than through the sexual involvement of a man (Matthew 1:16, 23; Luke 1:35)
  3. The virgin’s son was to be called “Immanuel,” which means “God with us” (Matthew 1:23). That name was understood with new and deeper meaning when Jesus Christ, God’s one and only Son, came into the world (John 3:16).

I WILL NOT ASK / ISAIAH 7:12

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Isaiah 7:12

But Ahaz said, I will not ask, neither will I tempt the Lord.

I WILL NOT ASK / ISAIAH 7:12

Pretending he was too humble; Ahaz rejected the prophet Isaiah’s counsel to trust God to rescue Judah. Instead, Ahaz depended on his own limited understanding and looked to the power of Assyria for help (2 Kings 16:5-18; 2 Chronicles 28:16-21). This decision would bring trouble to them when Assyria later would invade and conquer Judah’s former sister nation of Israel. Conflict between the Jews (of the family line or nation of Judah) and Samaritans (Isaiah 7:8), would continue into New Testament times. Throughout the Old Testament the sin that perhaps brought the most severe consequences to God’s people was the failure to take God at His Word and depend on Him for help.

(KJV) Isaiah 7:7-8

Thus saith the Lord God, It shall not stand, neither shall it come to pass.

For the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin; and within threescore and five years shall Ephraim be broken, that it be not a people.

WITHIN SIXTY-FIVE YEARS / ISAIAH 7:7-8

Israel (also called Ephraim) was defeated in 722 B.C. by Assyria, who brought in people from other conquered nations to intermarry with the few remaining Israelites. The resulting mixed race later was called the Samaritans (2 Kings 17:24-34; John 4:7-42).
