(KJV) Colossians 2:18

Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,

False teachers were saying that angels should be called on and worshiped as mediators in order for people to make contact with God. To Paul, calling on angels would mean failing to recognize Jesus Christ as the supreme and sufficient head of the church (Colossians 2:19); as a result, he sends a serious warning to the Colossian believers. Our time is no different. Jesus Christ as the only intermediary between God and humans is replaced with the practice of worshiping and praying to dead saints, who are seen as patrons and mediators to God. This practice seeks to rob Christ of His role of supremacy in God’s plan of spiritual salvation. Worship and prayer to anyone other than God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are unbiblical and must be rejected (Colossians 2:1-2).
