HAIR … GROW LONG / NUMBERS 6:5

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Numbers 6:5

All the days of the vow of his separation there shall no razor come upon his head: until the days be fulfilled, in the which he separateth himself unto the Lord, he shall be holy, and shall let the locks of the hair of his head grow.

HAIR … GROW LONG / NUMBERS 6:5

The Nazirite was to let his hair grow long as a visible symbol of his consecration to the Lord. According to Paul, long hair was normally a shame to a man (1 Corinthians 11:14). So, for a Nazirite to have long hair may have symbolized his willingness to bear words of shame that came from the people. All of this was for the Lord’s honor. The command not to go near a dead person (Numbers 6:6) taught that death was never God’s will when He created the human race. Death is the opposite of life and the end result of sin. Therefore, a corpse was viewed as unclean (Leviticus 12:1-2; Leviticus 13:3).
