(KJV) Genesis 9:6
Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.
WHOEVER SHEDS THE BLOOD OF MAN, BY MAN SHALL HIS BLOOD BE SHED / GENESIS 9:6
Because of the violent desires within the human heart (Genesis 6:11; 8:21), God laid out a plan to guard the sanctity of human life. He did this in two ways.
- He emphasized that all humans are created in His image (Genesis 1:26) and that their lives are sacred to Him.
- He declared a method of justice for intentionally taking another person’s life (Exodus 21:12, 14; 22:2; Numbers 35:6-34; Deuteronomy 19:1-3; Romans 13:4). The authority of governments to carry out the method of justice for murder is also discussed in the New Testament (Acts 25:11; Romans 13:4; Matthew 26:52).
