LOOKING FORWARD TO THE CITY / HEBREWS 11:10

Abraham knew that the earthly promised land was not the end of his journey of faith. Rather, God’s promise pointed beyond everything on earth to the heavenly city that God has prepared for His faithful servants. Abraham serves as an example for all God’s people, reminding us that we are only traveling through this world on our way to God’s city and His home for us in heaven. We are not to look for unending security in this present life or be attached to this present world (Hebrews 11:14, 16: 13:14). We must consider ourselves as strangers and exiles on the earth. This is not our homeland; the end of our journey will be “a better country” (Hebrews 11:16), “the heavenly Jerusalem” (Hebrews 12:22) and the “city that is to come” (Hebrews 13:14).

SEND YOU THE PROPHET ELIJAH / MALACHI 4:5

(KJV) Malachi 4:5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord:

SEND YOU THE PROPHET ELIJAH

Malachi prophesies that Elijah would come and minister before the coming day of the Lord. The New Testament reveals that this prophecy refers to John the Baptist (Matthew 11:7-14), who, “in the spirit and power of Elijah” (Luke 1:17), prepared the way for the Christ. Some also believe that Elijah will come again during the tribulation period and will be one of the two witnesses mentioned in Revelation (Revelation 11:3).

BELIEVE THAT HE EXISTS / HEBREWS 11:6

This verse describes the convictions – the deep convincing beliefs – that are a part of saving faith.

  1. We must believe in the existence of a personal, infinite, holy God who cares for us.
  2. We must believe that God will respond to us and reward us when we sincerely look to Him in faith, knowing that our greatest reward is the joy and presence of God Himself. He is our shield and our very great reward (Genesis 15:1; Deuteronomy 4:29; Matthew 7:7-8: John 14:2).
  3. We must diligently pursue a deeper relationship with God and passionately desire His presence, power and purpose in our lives. (John 1:12; 5:24).

The Israelites believes that “the day of the LORD” would be a time when God would judge all their enemies, but honor and reward Israel. Amos shocked them by insisting that when the day came, it would mean severe judgment for Israel as well (Joel 1:15).

By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh. By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God. But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

    ABEL … ENOCH … NOAH / HEBREWS 11:4-7

These three godly men are selected for special mention from the time of creation until the great flood that devastated the earth (Genesis 6 – 8). Their lives are examples of various aspects of a life of faith.

    • By faith, Abel (son of Adam and Eve) was commended as a true worshiper who gave his absolute best and honored God in the way God prescribed (Hebrews 11:4). Because of his bold commitment, he became the first martyr (one killed for faith or for following God, (Hebrews 11:4).
    • By faith, Enoch “walked with God” (Genesis 5:24) in great intimacy, so much that he was taken from this earth without dying (Hebrews 11:5).
    • By faith, Noah believed what God said about the future disaster coming on the earth and was willing to risk his reputation on God’s warning coming to pass (Hebrews 11:7).

BY FAITH WE UNDERSTAND / HEBREWS 1:3

(KJV) Hebrews 1:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

The Radiance of His Glory: Understanding Hebrews 1:3

Have you ever tried to look directly at the sun? Within a fraction of a second, you have to look away. The light is too intense, too blinding, and too powerful for human eyes to behold. Yet, that same sun warms our planet, lights our days, and sustains physical life on Earth from millions of miles away.

In a much more profound and spiritual way, God’s glory is infinitely more intense than the brightest star. Because of our human limitations and brokenness, we cannot look upon the full, unveiled majesty of God and live.

But God, in His infinite love, did not want to remain distant or hidden. He made Himself visible, approachable, and tangible.

This is the beautiful truth anchored in Hebrews 1:3:

“The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.”

Let’s unpack this short but monumentally deep verse to see what it reveals about Jesus, our world, and our daily lives.

    1. Jesus is the Radiance of God’s Glory

The writer of Hebrews begins by calling Jesus the “radiance” of God’s glory. Think back to the illustration of the sun. You cannot separate the sun from its brightness; the light is the natural, necessary expression of the sun itself.

Jesus is not a reflection of God the way the moon reflects the sun. He is the radiance itself. When Jesus walked the earth, healed the sick, comforted the broken, and spoke words of life, He was the literal outshining of God’s heart. If you want to know what God’s glory looks like, look at Jesus.

    2. Jesus is the Exact Representation of His Being

The Greek word used here for “exact representation” is charaktēr, which originally referred to the die or stamp used to impress an image onto a coin. The mark on the coin perfectly matches the engraving on the stamp.

Jesus is the perfect imprint of God’s nature. He possesses the same character, the same love, the same justice, and the same power. Jesus Himself affirmed this in John 14:9 when He said, “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.” We never have to wonder what God thinks about us or how He reacts to our pain. Jesus shows us exactly who God is.

    3. Jesus Sustains the Universe

Sometimes it feels like our world is spinning out of control. We look at the news, or even our own personal lives, and wonder if everything is about to fall apart.

Hebrews 1:3 gives us an incredible anchor of peace: Jesus is “sustaining all things by his powerful word.” The universe is not a runaway train. Your life is not left to random chance. The same cosmic power that keeps the planets in orbit is actively holding your life together right now. He speaks, and reality listens.

    4. Jesus Provided Purification and Sat Down

This is the climax of the verse. Jesus came to earth, revealed the Father, and held creation together—but He also looked at our deepest problem: sin. Our brokenness separated us from a holy God.

Jesus didn’t just give us good advice; He provided purification. Through His death on the cross, He washed away the guilt of our past, present, and future.

And what did He do after that? He sat down.

In the Old Testament tabernacle, the priests never sat down because their work of offering sacrifices was never finished. But Jesus cried out, “It is finished!” He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven because the work of your salvation is completely, utterly done. You don’t have to perform or strive to earn God’s love; you just have to receive it.

    Final Thoughts

Today, whatever you are facing, remember who is on the throne. You are loved by a God who made Himself known in Jesus, who holds your world in His hands, and who has already paid the price to bring you close to Him. Rest in His finished work today.

    A Closing Prayer

    Heavenly Father,

We stand in awe of the beauty and majesty of Your Son, Jesus. Thank You for not remaining hidden in the heavens, but for revealing Your heart, Your love, and Your glory to us through Him. Jesus, thank You for being the perfect radiance of the Father, making the invisible God visible to our hearts.

We thank You that our lives are not left to chance. Forgive us for the times we worry, forgetting that You are actively sustaining all things by the power of Your word. Hold our hearts, our families, and our futures in Your secure hands today.

Thank You, Lord, for the cross. Thank You that our sins are purified and that You are now seated in victory at the right hand of the Father. Because Your work is finished, we can live in perfect peace, freedom, and grace.

Align our thoughts with Your truth today, and let our lives reflect a fraction of Your magnificent glory to the world around us.

In the mighty and beautiful name of Jesus, we pray, Amen.

IT WILL BE DONE TO YOU/ OBADIAH 1:15

      (KJV) Obadiah 1:15

For the day of the Lord is near upon all the heathen: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee: thy reward shall return upon thine own head.

IT WILL BE DONE TO YOU / OBADIAH 1:15

Title: The Law of Echoes: Understanding Obadiah 1:15 and Divine Justice

We live in a world that often feels profoundly unfair. We watch people manipulate, exploit, and mistreat others, only to climb higher up the ladder of success. In those moments, our hearts cry out for justice. We wonder if anyone sees, if anyone cares, and if the scales will ever be balanced.

The minor prophet Obadiah addresses this exact heartache with a fierce, unsettling promise from God.

      The Prophecy against Edom

In Obadiah 1:15, the scripture declares:

“The day of the Lord is near for all nations. As you have done, it will be done to you; your deeds will return upon your own head.”

To understand the weight of these words, we have to look at the backstory. Edom was not just any foreign nation; the Edomites were the descendants of Esau, making them the brother nation to Israel (the descendants of Jacob). When Babylon invaded Jerusalem, slaughtered its people, and took them into captivity, Edom did not just stand by idly. They cheered on the destruction. They caught Jewish refugees fleeing the carnage and handed them over to the enemy.

Edom thought their mountain fortresses made them invincible. They believed they could mistreat the vulnerable without consequence. But God sent Obadiah with a reality check: divine justice has a return address.

      The Law of Echoes Today

The principle of Obadiah 1:15 is timeless. It is the spiritual law of echoes—what you speak into the world will echo back to you. What you inflict on others will eventually find its way back to your own doorstep.

While it is easy to apply Obadiah 1:15 to “the world” or to those we consider our enemies, the New Testament brings this truth incredibly close to home. It warns that this principle applies directly to believers.

In Colossians 3:25, the Apostle Paul writes to the church:

“Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for their wrongs, and there is no favoritism.”

Claiming to follow Christ does not give us a license to mistreat people. In fact, a true relationship with Jesus should make us hyper-aware of how we treat the clerk at the grocery store, the spouse in our home, the coworker online, and the marginalized in our communities. God does not show favoritism to believers who weaponize their faith to harm or neglect others.

      Mercy Over Judgment

This realization should not move us to gloat over the impending downfall of our enemies. Instead, it should move us to deep personal reflection.

If it will be done to us as we have done to others, what does that mean for our daily interactions?

      • If we sow gossip, we will reap betrayal.
      • If we sow harsh judgment, we will reap condemnation.
      • But if we sow mercy, kindness, and justice, we invite those very blessings back into our lives.

Obadiah 1:15 is a comfort to those who have been wronged, assuring them that God sees and will settle the accounts. But it is also a sober warning to our own hearts to walk in humility, love, and righteousness.

      A Closing Prayer

      Heavenly Father,

You are a God of perfect justice and boundless mercy. We humble ourselves before You today, acknowledging that You see every action, hear every word, and know the hidden motives of our hearts.

Lord, we ask for your forgiveness for the times we have mistreated others, stayed silent in the face of injustice, or allowed pride to dictate our actions. Deliver us from the deception that our secret sins or quiet cruelties have no consequences.

Remind us daily of the words of Your prophet Obadiah and the warnings of Scripture. Let Your Holy Spirit search us and root out any bitterness, malice, or selfishness. Help us to treat every person we encounter with the dignity, respect, and love that reflects Your heart. Where we have sown discord, let us sow peace. Where we have caused pain, let us bring healing.

We thank You that while Your justice is certain, Your grace is sufficient. Thank You for Jesus, who took the ultimate judgment for our sins upon Himself so that we might walk in freedom. May our lives honor Him in everything we do.

In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen.

NOW FAITH IS / HEBREWS 11:1

      Start Your Day Right Devotion

(KJV) Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

NOW FAITH IS / HEBREWS 11:1

Hebrews 11 gives evidence that true, enduring faith involves trusting God in all circumstances. This trust enables the believer to remain loyal to God and His Word at all times. Faith takes God at His Word and relies completely on His promises. It does not base its hope on visible circumstances, but on confidence in spiritual realities (Hebrews 11:1). Such a faith enables us to have a right relationship with God (Hebrews 11:4). It causes us to pursue a deeper relationship with God (Hebrews 11:6), trust His goodness (Hebrews11:6) and have full confidence in His Word (Hebrews 11:7, 11). Faith obeys His commands (Hebrew 11:8) and guides us so that we come to base our lives on His promises (Hebrews 11:13, 39), reject the evil ways of this present world (Hebrews 11:13) and pursue a heavenly home (Hebrews 11:14-16; 13:13-14). It teaches us to endure great challenges and difficulties (Hebrews 11:17-19), inspire faith in future generations (Hebrews 11:21), refuse to indulge in sin’s pleasures (Hebrews 11:25), endure persecution (Hebrews11:27), perform mighty works and miracles in God’s power and for His honor (Hebrews 11:33-35) and also suffer for God (Hebrews 11:25, 35-38). Faith says we will not return to the useless and ungodly ways of the world (Hebrews 11:15-16).
