ALWAYS WRESTLING IN PRAYER / COLOSSIANS 4:12

(KJV) Colossians 4:12

Epaphras, who is one of you and a servant of Christ Jesus, sends greetings. He is always wrestling in prayer for you, that you may stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured.

“Wrestling” (Greek agonizo, from which we derive the English word “agonize”) speaks of deep desire and willingness to struggle and do spiritual battle in prayer. Faithful New Testament believers were devoted to prayer (Colossians 4:2), and they called on God with the expectation for Him to meet their needs and challenges in powerful and miraculous ways. The needs of our families, churches, schools, workplaces, communities and the world today are no less urgent, no less serious. We must pray with passion and inner persistence, knowing that as we wrestle in prayer, Christ’s energy is working powerfully in us (Colossians 1:29) and His purposes are being realized on behalf of others.
