CONSUMING FIRE – JEALOUS GOD / DEUTERONOMY 4:24

(KJV) Deuteronomy 4:24

For the Lord thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.

The phrase “consuming fire” in Deuteronomy 4:24 highlights God’s intense holiness and absolute intolerance of idolatry. This theological concept connects a believer’s exclusive loyalty to God with the exclusive loyalty required between spouses in a marriage. Likewise, in the marriage union, there should be a holy jealousy that guards the affection and love of one spouse for the other. Marriage partners must expect love and loyalty to be expressed on a level for each other like they would for no other person. It is right to demand that each remain completely faithful and true in the marriage relationship.
