Ye shall not fear them: for the Lord your God he shall fight for you.

The Israelites faced powerful enemies whom they could not defeat in their own strength. Israel’s natural tendency was to fear the awful consequences of defeat. Only by looking to God could they gain victory (Deuteronomy 3:2-3; 1:30; 2:24-25, 31, 33, 36; 20:4). When committed believers face seemingly impossible difficulties and overwhelming opposition, God promises to be with them and to give them strength to accomplish His will for them (Matthew 6:30; Philippians 4:6; Philippians 4:7).
