(KJV) Psalms 13:1
How long wilt thou forget me, O Lord? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me?
WILL YOU FORGET ME FOREVER? / PSALMS 13:1
The psalm writer is depressed, discouraged and in desperate trouble. God seems far away and unwilling to help. But the people of God should keep in mind two important lessons:
- The prayers of godly people may not be answered quickly, but God does hear their prayers. This feeling of being abandoned by God may occur in times of sickness, financial need or severe problems involving family, work, school or church. At such times, we should pray for the Holy Spirit to give us peace and patience. The Bible teaches us that we still have reason to rejoice in the fact that we are spiritually saved and have a personal relationship with God (Psalms 13:5-6) – one that is not based on feelings or circumstances.
- If we are depending on God through faith in Jesus Christ, then God’s delay does not mean that He has abandoned us. He may instead be planning to accomplish some unknown purpose in our lives (2 Corinthians 12:7-10; Hebrews 12:10-11; James 1:2; James 1:4; 1 Peter 1:6-7).
