And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

I AM NOTHING / 1 CORINTHIANS 13:2

Those whose lives are filled with “religious activities” (including the exercise of gifts like tongues, prophecy and great works of faith), “but have not love” (1 Corinthians 13:1-3) do not know and understand true spirituality. It matters very little how much they know or do because God is not impressed with religious knowledge or works, which cannot save us spiritually (Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5). Without love, it all adds up to “nothing” in god’s view. Anything we do for God must flow out of true love for Him and others. Without such love, we have no real place in God’s kingdom (Matthew 7:21-23).

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

BUT HAVE NOT LOVE / 1 CORINTHIANS 13:1

In 1 Corinthians 13, Paul continues to address issues and questions about spiritual gifts. His focus here is that having spiritual gifts without God’s love amounts to nothing (1 Corinthians 13:1-3). The “most excellent way” (1 Corinthians 12:31) is the exercise of spiritual gifts in an attitude of sincere love (1 Corinthians 13:4-8). Love must be the guiding principle – the main motivation – behind the exercise of all spiritual expressions because love is the only context in which spiritual gifts can truly fulfill God’s purposes. For this reason, Paul encourages the Corinthians to “follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts” (1 Corinthians 14:1). They must seriously desire to be used by the Spirit because they truly want to help, comfort and bless others.

For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

Transforming Your Perspective: What It Truly Means to Have the Mind of Christ

Have you ever looked at the world around you and felt a deep, undeniable disconnect? As believers, we are often caught between the constant noise of modern culture and the quiet, persistent whisper of truth. The Apostle Paul addresses this exact tension in his first letter to the Corinthians, concluding a profound discussion on divine wisdom with a startling, beautiful reality: “For ‘who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?’ But we have the mind of Christ.” (1 Corinthians 2:16)

But what does it actually mean to possess the mind of Christ? It is not about reaching a state of intellectual superiority or academic theology. It is a radical, supernatural rewriting of how we think, feel, and live.

Here is what happens when the Holy Spirit aligns our minds with the Savior.

1. Aligning with His Will and Restorative Plan

To have the mind of Christ means we begin to understand His ultimate will—His plans, desires, and purposes rooted firmly in His unchanging character. Through the Holy Spirit, God reveals what human eyes have not seen and ears have not heard (1 Corinthians 2:9-10). We stop viewing history as a series of random events and start seeing it as God’s grand narrative to restore broken people into a deeply personal relationship with Himself.

2. Seeing Through a Heavenly Lens

Possessing His mind alters our spiritual vision. We begin to evaluate our circumstances, our relationships, and our culture from God’s perspective rather than a human one (1 Corinthians 2:15). This means our values shift. We actively learn to love what He loves—justice, mercy, truth, and people—and hate what He hates—pride, injustice, and deceit (Hebrews 1:9).

3. Understanding Holiness and the Gravity of Sin

The closer we get to the heart of Christ, the more clearly we perceive God’s absolute holiness—His flawless purity, perfection, and complete separation from evil. Consequently, we no longer minimize or excuse sin. We see sin for what it truly is: an awful, destructive force that breaks fellowship with a holy God. The mind of Christ creates in us a desire for purity and a grief over the things that grieve Him.

4. Embracing Humility and Servanthood

Perhaps the most tangible evidence of Christ’s mind in us is a drastic shift in our attitude toward others. In Philippians 2:3-8, Paul connects the mind of Christ directly to humility, servanthood, and selflessness. Having His mind means intentionally putting the needs and best interests of others above our own. It mirrors the exact love Jesus showed when He emptied Himself, took the form of a servant, and gave His life to save us.

A Different Way of Living

When we receive and follow the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 2:12), our worldview and values become fundamentally different from the shifting wisdom of this world. The world screams for self-preservation, promotion, and personal gain. Christ models sacrifice, humility, and surrender.

We cannot effectively live for Him using the world’s logic. To navigate this life with impact, purpose, and peace, we must actively surrender our thoughts and ask daily to operate in the beautiful reality we have already been granted: the mind of Jesus Christ.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the incredible gift of Your Holy Spirit, who searches the deep things of God and reveals them to us. Forgive us for the times we have allowed the wisdom, anxieties, and patterns of this world to dictate our thoughts and choices.

Lord, we lean into the truth of Your Word today: we have the mind of Christ. We ask that You would make this reality vibrant and active in our daily lives. Give us the grace to see our circumstances through Your eyes, to adopt Your eternal values, and to love what You love. Grant us a deeper reverence for Your holiness and a heart that flees from sin.

Uproot pride and selfishness from our hearts. Replace it with the humility and servant-hearted love of Jesus, so that we may naturally look to the interests of others before our own. Let our lives be a distinct, radiant reflection of Your kingdom to a world that desperately needs Your restoration.

In the powerful name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

Words Taught by the Spirit: How God Wrote His Book

Have you ever wondered how the Bible transitioned from the mind of God to pages we can hold in our hands? In 1 Corinthians 2:13, the Apostle Paul writes about speaking “not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit.” While Paul was describing his own preaching, this passage pulls back the curtain on a profound reality: the divine process of Biblical inspiration.

The Holy Spirit did not just give the biblical writers good ideas; He guided the very words they used. Here are the five divine steps by which the Holy Spirit inspired the writing of Scripture.

Step 1: The Divine Desire to Communicate

God did not want His wisdom to remain a secret. He deeply desired to communicate His eternal plans to humankind (1 Corinthians 2:7-9). This wisdom centers entirely on His purpose to restore us to a personal relationship with Himself through the life, death, and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ.

Step 2: The Spirit as the Only Source

Human intellect cannot guess the mind of God. It is only through the Holy Spirit that God’s truth and wisdom are revealed to humanity (1 Corinthians 2:10). Because the Spirit is Himself God, He knows the thoughts of God perfectly and fully (1 Corinthians 2:11).

Step 3: The Chosen Vessels

God did not shout His Word from the clouds; He chose human vessels. His divine revelation was given to specific believers through the active presence of the Holy Spirit living within them (1 Corinthians 2:12).

Step 4: Words Taught by the Spirit

This is where revelation became Scripture. The writers of the Bible recorded the exact words taught by the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 2:13). The Spirit did not just direct their general thoughts; He guided their very choice of words so that they communicated exactly what God intended.

Yet, this was not mechanical dictation. The Spirit’s guidance was beautifully personal, utilizing each writer’s unique vocabulary, background, and individual style, while protecting the text from any error.

Step 5: Spiritual Discernment for the Believer

The process comes full circle with us. Because the Bible is a spiritual book, human logic alone cannot unlock its deepest truths. Believers can understand God-inspired Scripture today because the same Holy Spirit who wrote the Word lives inside us, giving us insight to examine and understand its content (1 Corinthians 2:14-16).

Heavenly Father,

We stand in awe of Your holy wisdom and Your deep desire to be known by us. Thank You for not leaving us in the dark, but for breathing out Your perfect truth through the Holy Spirit into the holy Scriptures.

Thank You for guiding the very words of the authors, giving us a bedrock of truth that is completely reliable, flawless, and free from error. Forgive us for the times we take this miraculous Book for granted.

Open our eyes by that same Spirit today. Give us discernment, wisdom, and a hunger to understand Your thoughts. Let Your words transform our hearts, renew our minds, and draw us closer to Jesus, in whose name we pray, Amen.

That We May Understand: The Gift of the Holy Spirit

Have you ever tried reading a complex technical manual or a book in a foreign language? Without a guide or a translator, the words on the page remain a mystery. Many people approach the Bible the same way—feeling overwhelmed, confused, or disconnected.

But God did not leave us to figure out His truth on our own. In 1 Corinthians 2:12, the Apostle Paul shares a profound truth about how we can truly know and comprehend God:

“What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us.” (1 Corinthians 2:12, NIV)

The Divine Translator

God’s Spirit knows all things and fully understands the nature and depth of God’s plans. Because the Holy Spirit is God, He holds the ultimate key to unlocking the mysteries of scripture and the heart of the Father.

When you accept Christ, you receive a divine counselor. The Spirit functions as a heavenly translator, bridging the gap between human limitation and divine wisdom.

Revealing God’s Gracious Gifts

The “spirit of the world” pushes us toward human wisdom, self-reliance, and pride. In contrast, the Holy Spirit works in the proper time and way to reveal and shine His light upon the things that God has prepared for those who truly love Him.

As we read and study the Bible, the Holy Spirit enlightens our understanding of the truth. He takes ancient words and transforms them into living, breathing guidance for our daily lives.

A Blessed Assurance

The Holy Spirit does not just give us academic knowledge; He provides deep conviction. The Spirit gives Christ’s faithful followers a strong assurance of the divine origin of the Bible.

Through scriptures like John 16:13 and Ephesians 1:17, we learn that the Spirit guides us into all truth and gives us wisdom to know God intimately. You can move forward in faith, knowing that God’s promises are secure, true, and meant for you to understand.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the incredible gift of Your Holy Spirit. Thank You for not leaving me in the dark, but for giving me a Divine Guide to help me navigate Your Word and Your will. Forgive me for the times I have relied on my own human intellect or the wisdom of this world. Open my eyes and enlighten my heart today. And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:

A Demonstration of the Spirit’s Power: Moving Beyond Human Wisdom

When the Apostle Paul walked into the city of Corinth, he did not rely on flashy rhetoric or human philosophy to win people over. Instead, he made a conscious choice to lean entirely on God. In 1 Corinthians 2:4, he writes: “My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power.”

Because of Paul’s deep humility and total reliance on the Holy Spirit, powerful works characterized his entire ministry. He understood that human eloquence might move the mind, but only the Holy Spirit can transform the human heart.

How the Holy Spirit Demonstrates His Power

Paul’s preaching was grounded in the reality of the Holy Spirit’s active presence. According to the New Testament, this divine power manifests in several distinct ways:

  • Conviction of Sin: The Spirit exposes wrongdoing and convinces people of their need to get right with God through faith in the risen Christ (1 Corinthians 5-6; John 16:8).
  • Transformed Lives: God regularly uses the simple, the broken, and the overlooked to confound the wise of this world, radically changing their identity and purpose (1 Corinthians 1:26-27).
  • Spiritual Purity and Wholeness: The Holy Spirit cleanses believers, bringing functional discipline, moral purity, and a restored sense of divine purpose to our lives (1 Corinthians 5:3-5).
  • Signs and Miracles: The gospel message in the early church was consistently authenticated through supernatural healings, deliverance, and wonders (Romans 15:19; 2 Corinthians 12:12).

This supernatural backing was not unique to Paul. Across the New Testament—from the Gospels to the Epistles—the preaching of Jesus was naturally accompanied by the explosive power of the Holy Spirit (Mark 16:17-18; 1 Thessalonians 1:5; Hebrews 2:4).

A Call to Every Believer

This dynamic lifestyle is not reserved strictly for pastors or full-time ministers. Every single follower of Christ is called to step out in faith and pray for the Spirit to move through their daily lives and service.

When we serve, we should boldly pray for five specific outcomes:

  1. Salvation: That everyday conversations will lead people to know Jesus intimately and be spiritually saved.
  2. Spirit Infilling: That new believers will be completely filled with the Holy Spirit and empowered for service.
  3. Deliverance: That evil spirits will be forced out of people’s lives, breaking generational chains and spiritual oppression.
  4. Healing: That the sick will be physically and emotionally restored through the authority of Jesus’ name.
  5. True Discipleship: That people will grow into disciplined learners who gladly obey Christ’s commands and live by His high standards.

Let us stop relying on our own limited strength. When we anchor our lives in humility and total dependence on God, we create space for the Holy Spirit to put His undeniable power on display.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the truth of Your Word. Forgive us for the times we have relied on our own intellect, talent, and strength instead of leaning on You. Holy Spirit, we ask for a fresh outpouring of Your presence today. Strip away our pride and clothe us with the humility of Christ.

As we serve You in our workplaces, homes, and communities, let our lives be a genuine demonstration of Your power. We pray that through our witness, the lost will be saved, the bound will find total deliverance, the sick will be miraculously healed, and lives will be completely transformed. Raise us up to be true, disciplined followers of Jesus who live by Your standards. We anchor our faith not in human wisdom, but in Your unchanging power. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.

Beyond Clever Words: The True Power of the Gospel

When you share your faith, do you ever feel completely unqualified? Maybe you worry that you do not know enough theology, or that your words will sound clumsy.

If so, you are in good company. The Apostle Paul—one of the most influential leaders in church history—felt the exact same way.

In 1 Corinthians 2:1, Paul makes a surprising confession:

“And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God.”

Stripping Away the Performance

Paul was a highly educated man, yet he intentionally chose not to rely on fancy speeches, popular appeal, or the latest cultural trends. He did not try to impress people with brilliant philosophy or clever arguments.

Why? Because he knew that human wisdom has limitations. It can move the emotions or stimulate the mind, but it cannot save a soul.

Instead, Paul stripped away the performance and focused entirely on the core truth of the gospel:

  • Forgiveness for our past through Christ’s sacrifice.
  • New life for our present day.
  • An eternal relationship with God through faith.

Dependent on the Spirit

Paul was acutely aware of his own weakness. Because he knew he couldn’t change hearts on his own, he relied entirely on the message of Christ and the raw power of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 2:4).

By stepping out of the spotlight, Paul ensured that people’s attention was drawn directly to God. He wanted their faith to rest securely on God’s authority and power, not on human talent.

You do not need to be a flawless speaker or a perfect theologian to be used by God. When you rely less on your own abilities and more on the Holy Spirit, God’s power shines through your limitations. The simplest testimony spoken in faith is always more powerful than the most eloquent speech spoken in pride.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Forgive me for the times I let the fear of my own limitations keep me silent. Help me to remember that You do not call the qualified; You qualify the called. Take my simple words, my weaknesses, and my insecurities, and use them for Your glory.

Holy Spirit, speak through me. Let my faith and my witness rely completely on Your power and not on my own cleverness. Keep my focus fixed on the beautiful truth of Jesus Christ, so that anyone who hears my story will see Your hand at work.

PRAY WITH MY SPIRIT – PRAY WITH MY MIND / 1 CORINTHIANS 14:14-15

For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.
15What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.

PRAY WITH MY SPIRIT – PRAY WITH MY MIND / 1 CORINTHIANS 14:14-15

Paul refers to his own experience and private use of tongues. “I pray with my spirit” means to pray in tongues with one’s own spirit under the impulse (influence and anointing) of the Holy Spirit. The believer’s spirit prays as the Holy Spirit gives the words and motivation (1 Corinthians 12:7, 11; Acts 2:4). Praying in tongues on a regular basis will build and strengthen one’s spiritual life (1 Corinthians 14:4) because it involves speaking on a spiritual level (1 Corinthians 14:2, 14, 28). Praying in the Spirit can make our prayers more effective. When we do not have the words to fully express our desires and concerns to God, The Holy Spirit can pray through us (Romans 8:26; Romans 8:27). Although we may not see things clearly, the Holy Spirit does; and He knows exactly what to say and do. When Spirit-filled Christians use their “prayer language” in private times with God, the Holy Spirit is actually praying through them in perfect agreement with God’s character, desires and purposes. Although they do not understand what is communicated, they can be confident that this language expresses exactly what is needed. Paul used tongues not only for praying, but also for singing, praising and giving thanks to God (1 Corinthians 14:14-16). To “pray with my mind” means to pray and praise with a language the speaker knows and understands, yet it is also prayer guided and motivated by the Holy Spirit.

But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

True Wisdom is a Person: Finding Identity, Righteousness, and Purpose in Christ

In a world filled with endless self-help books, podcasts, and philosophy, we are constantly searching for wisdom. We want to know how to navigate our relationships, how to make the right decisions, and how to live a life of purpose. Yet, human intellect often leaves us feeling empty or overwhelmed. The Apostle Paul addresses this exact struggle in his letter to the believers in Corinth, pointing them away from human philosophies and toward a radical truth: “It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption” (1 Corinthians 1:30).

Godly wisdom is not a hidden secret or a high IQ score. Wisdom is a Person. Only because of what Jesus has accomplished for us, and only through a personal relationship with Him, can we truly understand and receive the wisdom that matters.

Rescued and Restored: Our Righteousness and Redemption

Before we can walk in purpose, we have to be made right with the One who created us. On our own, human effort cannot bridge the gap created by sin. We cannot think or work our way out of our brokenness.

Because of Christ, we are rescued from the penalty of sin and fully restored into a right relationship with God (Romans 3:24; Ephesians 4:30). Jesus took our place on the cross, exchanging our shortfalls for His flawless standing. He became our righteousness (giving us a right standing before God) and our redemption (paying the price to set us free from the slavery of sin). This is the foundation of true wisdom: recognizing that our worth and security do not come from our own achievements, but from the finished work of Jesus.

Transformed in Character: Our Holiness and Sanctification

True wisdom changes how we live. Once we are rescued, God does not leave us exactly as we were. In a relationship with Jesus, we enter into a lifelong process of transformation called sanctification or holiness (2 Thessalonians 2:13-15).

As we spend time with Jesus, His Spirit actively reshapes our character and redirects our ambitions. We begin to care about what He cares about. Our desires shift from self-serving goals to kingdom-building purposes. We learn to love selflessly, forgive quickly, and speak with grace. This is the practical side of godly wisdom—living a life that mirrors the very heart of Christ to the world around us.

Staying Connected: Abiding in the Vine

How do we actually experience these blessings daily? It happens through proximity and consistency. Because Christ is the ultimate source of wisdom, righteousness, holiness, and redemption, we can only enjoy these blessings as we remain closely tied to Him.

Jesus gave us a vivid picture of this in John 15:1-6 when He described Himself as the true vine and us as the branches. A branch cannot produce fruit on its own; it must stay attached to the vine to receive nutrients and life. In the exact same way, we cannot manufacture godly wisdom or Christlike character through raw willpower. It flows naturally when we remain in a faithful, active, and right relationship with Jesus through prayer, reading Scripture.

If you are feeling drained, confused, or unsure of your next steps, stop looking outward for answers. Look to the Savior who has already been made wisdom for you. Turn your heart toward Him, rest in His grace, and let His life flow through yours.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the beautiful truth found in Your Word. We praise You that salvation and wisdom do not depend on our own strength, intellect, or perfection, but entirely on the finished work of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Thank You for uniting us with Him and making Him our righteousness, holiness, and redemption.

Lord, we confess that we often look to worldly philosophy, material success, and our own understanding to find direction. Forgive us for striving in our own strength. We ask that You grant us a deeper desire to abide in Christ every single day. Let His Spirit transform our character, renew our minds, and align our ambitions with Your eternal kingdom purpose.

Help us to rest in the security of being loved, rescued, and restored. May our lives be a living testimony of Your grace, reflecting the wisdom and love of Jesus to everyone we meet. We ask all these things in the beautiful and powerful name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
