(KJV) Leviticus 18:22

Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.

THAT IS DETESTABLE / LEVITICUS 18:22

Sexual activity with a person of the same sex (Genesis 19:5) is described as a disgraceful offense to God (Romans 1:27). Some argue that since this restriction is part of Old Testament law it no longer applies. They relate it to regulations for washing and cleanliness, such as those in Leviticus 13 – 15, which are no longer necessary in the same way. But restriction on homosexual relations is not listed among those types of laws; it is listed in the context of other unlawful sexual practices, including adultery, incest and bestiality, sex with animals (Leviticus 18:6; Leviticus 18:23). Today few people would even attempt to justify this latter group of evil.

And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the fire to Molech, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the Lord.

SACRIFICED TO MOLECH / LEVITICUS 18:21

The Canaanites sacrificed infants to their gods as part of their religious rituals. This practice was very offensive and was strictly forbidden by God (Leviticus 20:2-5; Jeremiah 32:35). Today the practice of killing unborn children for the sake of convenience or as a form of birth control is an equally offensive sin and evil in God’s sight.

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2026

As the sun sets on 2025 and rises on 2026, I’m filled with gratitude for God’s unwavering faithfulness this past year on our family. From laughter to quiet sunrise prayers, to surprises, unexpected family visits filled with love – every moment reminded me of His new mercies each morning.

Looking ahead, I’m trusting in His perfect plans:

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” — Jeremiah 29:11

And holding onto this promise of renewed strength:
“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” — Isaiah 40:31

WORD OF THE YEAR INSTEAD OF A RESOLUTION

As the year comes to an end and the holiday bustle subsides, you might be reflecting on New Year’s resolutions, writing down dreams, or setting new goals. Another way to welcome the year with expectancy is to define a “word for the year.” In case you’ve never heard of it, typically, a “word for the year” is something you are believing for in the coming year—a word or theme that stood out during your time with God. It’s a word you can continue to pray for throughout the year or use to help filter your decisions and remind you of what’s important.

A “Word of the Year” is more than a goal; it’s a focus, a prayer, and a way to keep your heart aligned with God’s plan for your life. Let’s explore why this simple practice can transform your year and how to incorporate it into your Bible journaling.

Here is a step-by-step guide to help you narrow down your word.

Step One: Schedule and set aside a time for prayer. Turn off your notifications, tune out the distractions, and take time to connect with God. Every person connects with God differently, so decide what enriches you the most. Do you connect with God best in nature? When worship music is playing? When there is silence? Take time to examine what makes you feel closest to God.

Step Two: As you listen and pray, simply enjoy God’s presence without any pressure to figure it all out. If any inspiring thoughts or Scriptures come to mind during that time, jot them down. If nothing stands out to you on the first day, don’t get discouraged. Keep carving out time to connect with God and repeat the process. Most likely, you’ll sense a theme forming.

Step Three:
As you listen and pray, also take time to reflect. Look back on the previous year and ask yourself questions like:

  1. What did God teach me?
  2. How did I grow?
  3. What is there to celebrate?

Then, take time to reflect on the new year. Ask yourself questions like:

  1. Who do I want to become this year?
  2. What prayers do I want to see answered?
  3. If I could sum up my hopes for the new year in three words, what would they be?

After you write down your thoughts, look for common threads. Take the three words you listed and add any others that come to mind based on the theme. Circle the ones that stand out the most and research the words. Notice any other variations that emerge. Continue to narrow your list until you land on the word that stands out the most. Write down your word and hang it in a place you’ll see it regularly. Maybe your word is “trust.” Visibly seeing your word can remind you to trust God when life is challenging in the coming year. Or perhaps it serves as a reminder to pray for a steady trust in Christ to form in you throughout the year.

A Prayer as You Begin:

.Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You with open hearts as this new year approaches. Thank You for Your faithfulness in the past and Your promises for the future. Lord, You know every detail of our lives—the joys, challenges, growth areas, and dreams. We ask You to speak clearly and gently, revealing a word or theme that will guide, encourage, and draw us closer to You in 2026. Make it a word rooted in Your truth, one that we can return to in prayer, Scripture, and daily life. Help us listen for Your voice above all others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

  1. Clarity in the Chaos
Life can feel overwhelming, with countless distractions pulling us in different directions. A Word of the Year acts as a compass, keeping you centered on a spiritual theme or area of growth.
  2. Spiritual Growth
Whether it’s “Faith,” “Peace,” “Trust,” or “Joy,” a Word of the Year invites God to work in a specific area of your life. It becomes a prayerful focus, shaping how you read Scripture and seek Him.
  3. A Gentle Reminder
Instead of feeling pressure to check off resolutions, a Word of the Year gently reminds you to embrace growth at your own pace. It’s an invitation, not an obligation.

Why Choose a Word of the Year?

How to Choose Your Word

Word of The Year 2026 Ideas Free Download

  • Pray for Guidance
Begin by asking God to reveal the word He wants to shape your life. Listen for a theme that resonates in your heart or appears in your Bible reading.

Reflect on the Past Year
Consider where God has brought you and where you sense Him leading you next. Are you being called to surrender? To trust? To rejoice?
Be Open to Surprises
Sometimes the word you need isn’t the one you’d expect. Let the Holy Spirit guide you, even if the word feels challenging.
Consider God’s Character
A meaningful approach is to choose a word inspired by one of God’s five key attributes revealed in Exodus 34:6–7
Bible Journaling Ideas for Your Word of the Year
Use Bible journaling to bring your Word of the Year to life. Whether you journal by hand or digitally, these prompts can help you reflect and grow:
Create a Cover Page for Your Word
Frame your Word of the Year with a Scripture that supports it. For example, if your word is “Hope,” use Romans 15:13May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him.
Write a Prayer of Dedication
Journal a prayer asking God to use this word to transform your life. Decorate it with flowers, frames, or clusters to make it meaningful.
Reflect on Verses
Find and journal several verses that relate to your word. Write each one on a journal card and add them to a pocket or frame them on your page.
Track Your Progress
Create a monthly reflection page to record how your Word of the Year has shown up in your life. Look for small victories, lessons, or areas of growth.
Make a Vision Board
Incorporate your word into a creative layout with images, verses, and prayers that inspire you. For example, if your word is “Abundance,” include imagery of harvests or overflowing baskets.
Memorize Scripture
Choose one verse related to your word each month and commit it to memory. Journal about how it changes your perspective.

If one of these (or another) stirs your heart, pray over it and seek a supporting Bible verse to anchor it. God is faithful—He will guide you as you seek Him (Jeremiah 29:13).

I’d love to hear what word the Lord gives you!

HAVE SEXUAL RELATIONS / LEVITICUS 18:6

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Leviticus 18:6

None of you shall approach to any that is near of kin to him, to uncover their nakedness: I am the Lord.

HAVE SEXUAL RELATIONS / LEVITICUS 18:6

The translation “have sexual relation with” comes from a Hebrew phrase that literally means “uncover the nakedness of.” So it involves all forms of ungodly and impure sexual activity, including acts that fall short of sexual intercourse. This law prohibited any kind of sexual activity involving the body of another person who is not one’s lawful wife or husband. Such activity oversteps God’s boundaries of purity. Such conduct is a serious offense against Him and His law.

MUST NOT DO AS THEY DO / LEVITICUS 18:3

(KJV) Leviticus 18:3

After the doings of the land of Egypt, wherein ye dwelt, shall ye not do: and after the doings of the land of Canaan, whither I bring you, shall ye not do: neither shall ye walk in their ordinances.

MUST NOT DO AS THEY DO / LEVITICUS 18:3

God’s people have always been tempted to imitate the behavior and moral standards of the societies in which they live. That is why God commands His people to accept His laws as the only standard for determining right and wrong. Our lives must never be guided by the ungodly practices of any culture. God’s character – as revealed in His Word – is the only true basis and standard for all moral or spiritual conduct.

LIFE OF A CREATURE IS IN THE BLOOD / LEVITICUS 17:11

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Leviticus 17:11

For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.

LIFE OF A CREATURE IS IN THE BLOOD / LEVITICUS 17:11

This passage reveals the reason for blood sacrifices and how they relate to atonement (a “covering” for sin). The animal’s blood represented its life (Leviticus 17:14). Therefore, the price of atonement for human sin was the loss of a life. Through this substitutionary atonement, God’s plan spared human beings from having to give their own lives. In this way, the blood of an innocent sacrifice (the animal) provided a “covering” for the guilty person’s sin. The principle of substitutionary atonement helps us understand the importance of Christ’s blood in providing forgiveness and spiritual salvation under the new covenant. As Jesus Christ shed His blood on the cross, He substituted His life for the sinner’s life (Romans 5:1). Because His life was perfect and sinless, His blood is priceless and provides a complete covering for all sin. Jesus offers perfect salvation (forgiveness for sin and an eternal relationship with God) for all who accept, trust and follow Him (Colossians 1:13-14; Hebrews 9:13-14; 1 John 1:7; Revelation 7:14).

THE GOAT IDOLS / LEVITICUS 17:7

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Leviticus 17:7

And they shall no more offer their sacrifices unto devils, after whom they have gone a whoring. This shall be a statute for ever unto them throughout their generations.

THE GOAT IDOLS / LEVITICUS 17:7

“Goat idols” literally means “hairy ones.” Evidently during Moses’ time, Israel had adopted the practice of offering sacrifices to desert demons – false “gods” – in an attempt to gain their help or favor. This behavior, which showed open and unashamed spiritual rebellion and unfaithfulness to the true God, was strictly forbidden.
