The Feast of Weeks (Deuteronomy 16:10), also called the Feast of Pentecost (meaning “the fiftieth day”), occurred at the end of the wheat harvest, fifty days after the Feast of Firstfruits (Leviticus 23:16). On this day, God’s people gave thanks for His abundant gifts of food and everything else He provided for living. It was on the day of Pentecost that God fulfilled His promise (Joel 2:28-29; Acts 2:16-18) to “pour out” the Holy Spirit on His followers (Acts 2:1-4).
