OLD COMMAND … NEW COMMAND / 1 JOHN 2:7-8

(KJV) 1 John 2:7-8

Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning. 8 Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.

OLD COMMAND … NEW COMMAND / 1 JOHN 2:7-8

God’s command to love others was not new (Leviticus 19:18; Matthew 22:39-40), yet it took on a whole new perspective through Christ’s perfect example and His sacrificial death for us on the cross. Christ’s followers are now to follow that example in showing selfless love for one another.
