(KJV) Zechariah 2:6
Ho, ho, come forth, and flee from the land of the north, saith the Lord: for I have spread you abroad as the four winds of the heaven, saith the Lord.
FLEE FROM THE LAND OF THE NORTH / ZECHARIAH 2:6
Zechariah’s instruction here can be interpreted on several different levels.
- The rebuilding of the temple was a signal for more of the exiled Jews to return from Babylon (Zechariah 2:7; actually, Babylon had been defeated by the Medo-Persians who now controlled the empire and allowed the Jews to return to their homeland).
- The Old Testament prophets also saw a future return of Jews in the last days (the end times of history) that will reach its climax or highest point, when Christ returns to earth to establish His millennial kingdom (Zechariah 2:7-9). It is then that He will reign among His people for a thousand years at the end of history (Revelation 20).
- We also can apply this to our lives today as a challenge to avoid idolatry (worshiping false gods or giving anything priority over the One True God), immorality, wickedness, occult practices and all other forms of evil that are common in today’s world system.
