But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;

The Power of the Unlikely: Why God Chooses the Foolish Things

Have you ever felt unqualified, overlooked, or simply not “enough” by the world’s standards? If so, you are in the perfect position to be used by God.

In a culture obsessed with status, credentials, and influence, the Apostle Paul delivers a radical, upside-down truth in his first letter to the Corinthians. He reminds us that God’s kingdom operates on an entirely different economy than our world.

The Divine Subversion

“But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.” — 1 Corinthians 1:27

In 1 Corinthians 1:25-29, Paul pulls back the curtain on divine strategy. The world values intellect, power, and noble birth. We applaud the loudest voices and the most impressive resumes. But Paul explains that God is actively exposing and overthrowing these false cultural standards.

God does not need the most influential or brilliant people to accomplish His will. When He looks for vessels to carry His grace, He doesn’t look at worldly credentials. He looks for a broken and contrite heart.

Why the Foolish and the Weak?

Why does God choose this counter-cultural method?

  • To Eliminate Human Pride: If God only used the elite, humanity could boast in its own strength. By using the unlikely, it becomes undeniable that the power belongs to God alone.
  • To Display His True Wisdom: The “wisdom” of this world is temporary and flawed. God’s wisdom is eternal, rooted in the sacrificial love of the cross—a concept that seems like utter foolishness to a secular mind.
  • To Invite Everyone In: If God only called the qualified, grace would be earned. Because He qualifies the called, anyone who humbles themselves can be a part of His purpose.

Repositioning Your Worth

If you are waiting until you have more money, more knowledge, or more status to step into your calling, stop waiting. God isn’t looking for your ability; He is looking for your availability.

When we accept Christ and submit our lives to Him, our perceived weaknesses become the exact platforms through which His strength is made perfect. Your limitations are not disruptions to God’s plan—they are often the prerequisites.

A Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

We confess that we often buy into the lies of this world. We chase status, fear our inadequacies, and assume we have too little to offer Your kingdom. Thank You for the beautiful truth of Your Word—that You choose the foolish, the weak, and the lowly to put human pride to shame.

Forgive us for trying to operate in our own strength. Today, we surrender our limitations, our lack of credentials, and our insecurities to You. We ask that You use our lives as a canvas to display Your unmatched wisdom and power. Let our weakness be a megaphone for Your grace, so that all the glory goes directly to You.

For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

The Foolishness of What Was Preached

Have you ever tried to explain something that makes perfect sense to you, only to be met with blank stares or polite laughter?

In his first letter to the Corinthians, the Apostle Paul addresses a message that sounded completely absurd to the ancient world. In 1 Corinthians 1:21, he writes about “the foolishness of what was preached.”

To understand this, we have to realize that Paul wasn’t talking about how the message was delivered. He wasn’t criticizing the style of preaching. He was talking about the shocking content of the message itself: the power and authority of Jesus Christ, who was executed on a Roman cross and then rose from the dead.

Why the World Rejects the Message

On many levels, God’s plan simply does not make sense to the human way of thinking. Because it defies human logic, most people reject it. In Paul’s time, different groups stumbled over the gospel for very specific reasons:

  • The Jewish Expectation: The Jews rejected the message because they were looking for a triumphant political leader. They expected a Messiah who would overthrow Roman oppression and establish an earthly kingdom. A crucified Savior felt like a contradiction.
  • The Greek and Roman Logic: The Gentiles rejected the message because crucifixion was reserved for the lowest criminals. To the proud culture of the Greco-Roman world, it was impossible to comprehend how an honorable person—let alone the Savior of the world—could die such a shameful death.

The Power of the Cross

What the world labeled as weakness and foolishness was actually the ultimate display of God’s wisdom and power. The cross shatters human pride because it reminds us that we cannot save ourselves. Salvation didn’t come through military might or philosophical brilliance; it came through a radical, self-sacrificing love that conquered death from the inside out.

Today, the message of the cross still challenges our culture. It asks us to lay down our own ideas of success, power, and intellect, and to trust in a Savior who won by losing everything for us.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for Your wisdom, which is so much higher than our own. Forgive us for the times we try to force Your gospel into the mold of human logic or seek the approval of the world over the truth of Your Word.

We thank You for the message of the cross—a message of a Savior who was crucified for our sins and raised to life for our justification. Give us the courage to look past what the world calls foolishness and to anchor our lives in the true power and authority of Jesus Christ. Open the hearts of those around us to receive this life-changing truth.

Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

The Illusion of Worldly Wisdom: Standing Firm on the Truth of the Cross

In a culture that constantly updates its definitions of truth, success, and morality, human knowledge is often treated as the ultimate authority. We are told to look within, trust our own insights, and build our lives on the shifting sands of modern philosophy. But centuries ago, the Apostle Paul leveled a challenging question at the intellectual elite of his day—one that echoes down to us today:

“Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?” — 1 Corinthians 1:20

When we examine the scriptures, we find a stark contrast between the brilliance of man and the brilliance of God.

The Core of Worldly Wisdom: Self-Sufficiency

At its heart, worldly wisdom excludes God. It is built on the foundational error that humanity is self-sufficient and that human intellect is the highest court of appeal. This mindset promotes the idea that we can figure life out, save ourselves, and determine right from wrong without divine intervention.

Because worldly wisdom relies strictly on human limitations, it inherently refuses to accept God’s revelation in Jesus Christ. To the sophisticated mind, a savior dying on a criminal’s cross looks like defeat, not victory.

Why God Calls It Foolishness

God doesn’t merely disagree with the secular worldview; Scripture states that He calls it foolishness (1 Corinthians 3:19-20). Why? Because for all its technological advancement and philosophical depth, worldly wisdom fails at the most important task: it keeps humans from finding and believing the truth that leads to knowing their Creator (1 Corinthians 1:21).

Human philosophy can analyze the creation, but it routinely rejects the Creator. It diagnoses the brokenness of the world but offers superficial cures that fail to heal the human heart.

Guarding the Uncompromised Cross

As believers, our worldview cannot be a mixture of culture and scripture. It must be firmly rooted in God’s Word and the message of Christ. When we stand on biblical truth, the secular worldview is revealed for what it truly is—a systematic rejection of God and His truth (Romans 1:20-32; Colossians 2:8).

Paul warns us that the original, true message of “the cross of Christ” must never be compromised or twisted to accommodate:

  • Modern cultural philosophies
  • Ever-changing scientific consensus used to deny God
  • Any human wisdom packaged as the “new authority”

Our faith does not rest on human wisdom or eloquent speech, but on the power of God (1 Corinthians 2:4-5). To change the gospel to make it more popular or comfortable for the world is to strip it of its saving power. We must resolve, like Paul, to boast in nothing except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ (Galatians 6:14).

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, Almighty Creator, we praise You because Your foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and Your weakness is stronger than human strength. Forgive us for the times we have allowed the philosophies of this world to dim our view of Your truth. Protect our minds from the deception of self-sufficiency and intellectual pride.

Grant us the courage to stand firmly on Your uncompromised Word. Keep our eyes fixed on the cross of Jesus Christ, recognizing it as the ultimate demonstration of Your power and wisdom. Fill us with the Holy Spirit so that we may discern truth from error and boldly proclaim the gospel to a world that desperately needs You. In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.

IT IS THE POWER OF GOD

(KJV) 1 Corinthians 1:18

For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

It is the Power of God: Embracing the Truth of 1 Corinthians 1:18

“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” — 1 Corinthians 1:18

To the modern world, a message centered around an ancient instrument of execution seems backward. The culture around us relies heavily on human wisdom, self-reliance, and personal intellect. To those who do not believe, relying on someone else’s death for ultimate rescue sounds like complete foolishness.

Yet, for those who believe, the cross is the ultimate demonstration of God’s active, life-transforming power. It is not a symbol of defeat, but the very source of our victory.

The Message of the Cross

The heart of the gospel proclaims how Jesus Christ willingly gave His life to pay the penalty for our sin. This sacrifice bridges the gap between a holy God and humanity, offering a way back to full relationship with our Creator.

When we look at the cross, we observe several core truths:

  • The Penalty Paid: Jesus took the weight of our past, present, and future transgressions upon Himself so that we could be declared righteous.
  • Life Celebrated: His death broke the power of the grave, introducing an abundant, eternal life that starts the moment we accept Him.
  • A Personal Choice: The message demands a response. Salvation is an open invitation, but we must personally choose to accept His sacrifice and surrender our lives to Him.

More Than Words: God’s Active Power

The preaching of the cross involves absolute truth and divine wisdom, but it does not stop at intellectual agreement. It carries the moving, breathing power of the Almighty to break real chains in our daily lives.

This active power operates in four distinct ways:

1. Spiritual Salvation

The cross changes our eternal destination. We are completely rescued from spiritual death and brought safely into God’s family, securing a future shared in His glory.

2. Divine Healing

Because Jesus bore our brokenness, the power of the cross extends to our physical bodies, emotional wounds, and mental anguish. It mends what life has shattered.

3. Deliverance and Freedom

The enemy no longer has a legal claim on a believer. The authority of Christ’s finished work brings total freedom from demonic oppression, breaking generational curses and spiritual strongholds.

4. Rescue from Sin’s Grip

We are no longer slaves to our old habits, addictions, or destructive patterns. The power of God provides daily strength to overcome temptation and walk in genuine freedom.

How Will You Respond?

The world will continue to chase its own ideas of strength and intelligence, dismissing the gospel as irrelevant. But human wisdom cannot save a soul, heal a disease, or break a chain.

Today, choose to position your heart under the power of the cross. Let it transform your mind, heal your pain, and anchor your faith in the undeniable strength of a loving Savior.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the message of the cross, which is the anchor of my faith and the display of Your ultimate authority. I acknowledge that while the world may see it as foolishness, it is the very power that has saved and transformed my life.

Thank You, Jesus, for Your willing sacrifice to pay the penalty for my sins. I choose today to accept Your gift afresh and submit to Your lordship. I ask that Your active power would flow through me right now—bringing spiritual clarity, physical and emotional healing, and complete freedom from every chain of sin or oppression.

Equip me to boldly share this life-saving truth with others, trusting that Your power will convict and rescue those who are hurting. Let my life be a living testament to the victory won at Calvary.

CHRIST DID NOT SEND ME TO BAPTIZE / 1 CORINTHIANS 1:17

For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.

The Priority of the Gospel: Understanding 1 Corinthians 1:17

In 1 Corinthians 1:17, the Apostle Paul makes a statement that often makes readers pause: “For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel.”

At first glance, this might sound like Paul is downplaying the importance of baptism. We know from the Great Commission in Matthew 28:19 that Jesus commanded His followers to baptize. So, what is Paul actually saying here?

Keeping the Main Thing the Main Thing

Paul is not arguing that baptism is unimportant. Instead, he is addressing a dangerous culture of personality cults growing within the Corinthian church. Believers were dividing themselves into factions based on who baptized them—some claiming loyalty to Paul, some to Apollos, and others to Cephas (Peter).

To crush this pride, Paul points out that his primary, divine assignment was the proclamation of the gospel, not the administration of the ordinance.

Following the Pattern of Jesus and Peter

Paul’s practice aligned perfectly with other leaders in the early Church:

  • Jesus did not personally baptize believers; His disciples did (John 4:1-2).
  • Peter commanded that the first Gentile converts be baptized by his associates rather than doing it all himself (Acts 10:47-48).

By delegating water baptism to his ministry associates, Paul intentionally protected his converts from a dangerous trap. He removed any opportunity for people to boast that they were “baptized into the name of Paul.”

Allegiance to Christ Alone

Baptism is a beautiful, outward symbol of an inward reality—our identification with Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection (Romans 6:4). It washes away the old life and marks our entry into the family of God (Acts 22:16).

However, the power is not in the water, nor is it in the person performing the baptism. The power is solely in the name and finished work of Jesus Christ. Paul’s message reminds us that human leaders are merely servants; our ultimate allegiance belongs to the Savior alone.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for the life-saving power of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Forgive us for the times we focus too much on human leaders, platforms, or personalities instead of keeping our eyes fixed on You. Help us to value the ordinances of Your Church without turning them into badges of spiritual pride. May we always keep the proclamation of the cross our highest priority, pointing everyone we meet to the name of Jesus. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.

Anchored in Christ: Moving Beyond Ministry Personalities and Spiritual Pride

We live in a culture driven by personality. From social media influencers to charismatic public figures, it is easy to tether our loyalty to human faces.

Unfortunately, this trend is not new. It was fracturing the church as early as the first century.

In his first letter to the Corinthians, the Apostle Paul addresses a dangerous drift in the church. Believers were dividing themselves into factions based on their favorite teachers. Some claimed allegiance to Paul, others to Apollos, some to Cephas (Peter), and still others proudly declared they followed only Christ.

This ancient conflict offers a dual warning for the modern church: we must guard against both the idolatry of ministry personalities and the arrogance of spiritual independence.

The Danger of Ministry Personality Cults

The first group of believers in Corinth began elevating human messengers above the message itself. They became more attached to the specific ministers baptizing or teaching them than to Jesus Christ.

Paul strictly condemns this attitude. He sharply reminds the church that neither he, Apollos, nor Peter was crucified for them. None of these leaders gave their lives for the church; only Jesus did.

Today, the modern church faces the exact same misguided pull. It is easy to find our identity in a famous pastor, a brilliant podcaster, a specific worship leader, or a prominent theologian. When our loyalty shifts from Christ to a ministry personality, dangerous side effects follow:

  • Theological Blind Spots: We risk swallowing errors or compromising Christian principles simply because our favorite teacher spoke them.
  • Unnecessary Division: We create artificial camps, viewing other believers as rivals rather than brothers and sisters in Christ.
  • Fragile Faith: If a highly visible leader falls into sin or fails, a faith built on that person often collapses with them.

Messengers are merely servants. Our love, devotion, and ultimate loyalty belong strictly to God and His Word.

The Trap of Self-Righteous Independence

While some Corinthians fell into personality cults, another group swung to the opposite extreme. They proudly claimed, “I follow Christ.”

On the surface, this sounds like the correct, spiritual answer. However, context reveals that this group likely used the name of Jesus to mask a prideful, independent spirit. They believed they possessed superior wisdom and direct revelation, which they used to justify a life free from moral restraint and accountability.

By claiming a direct line to Christ that bypassed human leadership, they rejected the true, God-given authority of apostles like Paul. This twisted version of grace led to a dangerous mindset:

  • Moral Compromise: They mistook spiritual freedom for a license to ignore God’s moral standards.
  • Unteachable Hearts: Their spiritual pride made it impossible for them to submit to healthy correction or biblical leadership.
  • Isolation: They cut themselves off from the communal accountability that protects believers from deception.

Following Christ never means walking in isolation or rebellion against the biblical leadership God establishes to shepherd His flock.

Centering Our Hearts on the Rightful Head

Whether we find ourselves drifting toward over-attachment to human leaders or isolating ourselves in spiritual pride, the remedy is the same: returning Jesus Christ to His rightful place as the Head of the Church.

Leaders are gifts to the church, meant to equip us and point us to the Savior. We can appreciate their gifts, but we must never worship their personalities. At the same time, true submission to Christ will always produce humility, moral integrity, and a willingness to walk in accountability with the local body of believers.

Let us fix our eyes on the only One who died for us, grounding our faith deeply in His unchanging Word.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, forgive us for the times we have elevated human messengers above Your truth, and for the moments we have allowed spiritual pride to isolate us from godly accountability. Teach us to appreciate the leaders You place in our lives without turning them into idols. Guard our hearts against division, and deliver us from the arrogance that rejects biblical authority. May our local churches be unified, holy, and completely centered on the person of Jesus Christ. Anchor our faith exclusively in Your Word, so that our lives always bring glory to Your name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

Strong to the End: Resting in the Faithfulness of God

We live in a world where promises are easily broken. Contracts are violated, relationships falter, and our own resolve fluctuates based on our feelings or circumstances. In the midst of such instability, where can we find a firm place to stand?

The Apostle Paul answers this directly in 1 Corinthians 1:9: “God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord”.

When Scripture declares that God is faithful, it means He can be trusted to do exactly what He has promised. His faithfulness is not dependent on our perfection; it is anchored rooted deeply in His unchanging character.

Sustained by His Grace

Just one verse earlier, in 1 Corinthians 1:8, Paul highlights a breathtaking promise: God will keep His people “strong to the end” so that we will be blameless on the day our Lord Jesus Christ returns.

If staying true to God depended entirely on our own willpower, every single one of us would fail. We get tired, distracted, and weak. But the Christian life is not a solo endurance test. The same God who initiated your spiritual journey is the one actively maintaining your trajectory.

As 1 Thessalonians 5:24 reminds us, “Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.” He is the anchor holding you steady when the storms of life try to drag you away.

Called Into Deep Fellowship

God’s ultimate goal in keeping us strong is not just behavioral compliance—it is fellowship. We have been called into an intimate, shared life with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Remaining true to His call and purposes means choosing daily to walk in step with Jesus. When we rest in His faithfulness, obedience stops being a heavy burden and becomes a natural response to His love. You do not have to generate your own strength today. You simply need to abide in the One who has promised to hold onto you.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You that Your character is unchangeable and Your promises are entirely reliable. Forgive us for the moments we let anxiety take over and question Your timing or Your plan. We rest today in the beautiful truth that You are faithful.

Thank You for calling us into deep fellowship with Your Son, Jesus Christ. When we feel weak, overwhelmed, or uncertain about the future, remind us of Your promise to keep us strong to the very end. Give us the grace to remain true to Your purposes and to walk closely with You today.

In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray, Amen.

YOU DO NOT LACK ANY SPIRITUAL GIFT – WAIT FOR OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST TO BE REVEALED / 1 CORINTHIANS 1:7

(KJV) 1 Corinthians 1:7

 So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ:

Fully Equipped: Living and Waiting in the Grace of 1 Corinthians 1:7

Have you ever felt completely ill-equipped for what God has called you to do? It is easy to look at our own limitations, our anxieties, or the chaos of the world around us and feel like we are missing the tools required to make a real impact.

But the Apostle Paul speaks a radical truth over the church that changes everything. In 1 Corinthians 1:7, he writes:

“Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed.”

This single verse serves as both a powerful guarantee for our present life and an anchor for our future hope. Let’s dive into what it means to live as a fully equipped believer today.

You Do Not Lack Any Spiritual Gift

When Paul wrote this letter to the Corinthian church, he wasn’t writing to a perfect congregation. In fact, the church in Corinth was dealing with massive dysfunction, division, and messy attitudes. Yet, Paul starts his letter by expressing deep gratitude for them because of God’s grace.

Through His undeserved favor and enablement, God had completely flooded this church with spiritual gifts. Paul makes it clear: nothing was missing.

  • The Purpose of Your Gifts: Spiritual gifts are not badges of honor or tools for self-promotion. They are special, Holy Spirit-empowered abilities given to serve the needs of the church, honor God, and benefit the congregation.
  • God’s Perfect Provision: God is always entirely faithful. He places within a devoted church congregation exactly what it needs to fulfill His purposes at any given moment.
  • Correction, Not Elimination: It is fascinating to notice that despite all the chaos in Corinth, Paul never tells them to stop using their spiritual gifts. He doesn’t discourage them. Instead, he addresses their attitudes so they can redirect those gifts toward love and unity.

If you are a follower of Christ, you have been given a unique deposit of the Holy Spirit. You are not lacking. God has given you exactly what you need to serve those around you right now.

Eagerly Waiting for Our Lord to Be Revealed

The second half of 1 Corinthians 1:7 shifts our eyes toward the horizon. The gifts we have been given are meant to be used during a specific timeframe: the era of waiting.

The early Christians lived with a vibrant, breathless expectation of Christ’s immediate return. They woke up every day in constant anticipation of this great hope.

  • A Personal Hope: Notice the exact target of Christian anticipation. Our hope is not centered around tracking terrifying, general global events during the last days. Instead, our hope is centered entirely on a Person—the personal, physical return of the Lord Jesus Christ.
  • Active Waiting: Waiting for Christ is not a passive, lazy state of being. The spiritual gifts mentioned in the first half of the verse are given precisely to sustain us while we wait.

We use the tools He gave us today because we know He is coming back tomorrow. Your spiritual gifts are meant to build His kingdom until the moment He is fully revealed.

Closing Prayer

Let us pray:

Heavenly Father, thank You for the incredible riches of Your grace poured out on us through Jesus Christ. Thank You that You have not left us empty-handed or ill-equipped to face the days ahead. We praise You because, by Your Holy Spirit, we do not lack any spiritual gift necessary to love our neighbors, build up Your church, and glorify Your name.

Forgive us for the times we have doubted Your provision, hid our talents, or allowed wrong attitudes to disrupt Christian unity. Teach us how to use the unique abilities You have woven into our lives to selflessly serve others.

Holy God, keep our hearts anchored in eager expectation of Jesus’ return. Protect us from becoming distracted by fear or consumed by the chaos of this world. Fix our eyes firmly on the beautiful promise of Christ’s revelation. Sustain us, keep us blameless, and fill us with joy as we actively work and wait for the day we see You face to face.

In the mighty and holy name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.

Paul called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother,

2 Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both their’s and our’s:

Called to be Holy: Understanding Your Divine Purpose

Every believer shares a profound and personal invitation from God. This calling is not based on your own achievements, but on a specific purpose designed by God. In his first letter to the Corinthians, the Apostle Paul reminds the early church of this foundational truth.

The Foundations of Holy Living

“Paul, called to be an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and our brother Sosthenes, To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be his holy people, together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ—their Lord and ours.” — 1 Corinthians 1:1-2

Paul addresses a church struggling with division, morality, and cultural compromise. Yet, he begins by reminding them exactly who they are in God’s eyes. You are sanctified—set apart—and called to be holy.

1. A Personal Relationship with Christ

Holiness does not begin with a checklist of rules. It begins with a relationship. True moral purity and spiritual wholeness flow directly from intimacy with Jesus. As we spend time in His presence, His character naturally begins to reshape our own.

2. Set Apart from Evil

To be holy means to be “sanctified,” which literally translates to being set apart for a specific use. Scripture shows us that God calls His people out of darkness and away from evil (Acts 9:13). This separation is not about isolating ourselves from the world, but about insulating our hearts from the values of a broken culture.

3. Devoted to His Purposes

We are not just called away from sin; we are called to God. Holiness means absolute devotion to God’s design and His kingdom business. Your life, your talents, and your time belong to Him for His greater glory.

Living the Call Daily

Becoming holy is both an immediate position given by grace and a lifelong process of spiritual growth. God’s ultimate goal for your life is complete spiritual wholeness. Lean into His grace today, knowing that the One who called you is faithful to complete the work He started in you.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for calling me by name and setting me apart for Your holy purposes. I confess my need for Your grace and ask that You purify my heart today. Help me to walk in a deep, personal relationship with Jesus, turning away from the evils of this world and dedicating my life fully to Your will. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit so that my words, actions, and thoughts reflect Your righteousness. Keep me whole, healthy, and focused on Your kingdom.

THE GREATEST … IS LOVE / 1 CORINTHIANS 13:13

It is clear from this chapter that God honors Christlike character more than ministry, faith or the possession and use of spiritual gifts.

  1. God values and emphasizes character that acts in love, patience (1 Corinthians 13:4), kindness (1 Corinthians 13:4), unselfishness (1 Corinthians 13:5), hatred for evil and love for the truth (1 Corinthians 13:6), honesty (1 Corinthians 13:6), dependence on God and endurance (1 Corinthians 13:7) much more that extreme faith or great accomplishments in the church ( 1 Corinthians 13:1-2; 1 Corinthians13: 8; 1 Corinthians 13: 13).
  2. The greatest in God’s kingdom will be those who are great in inward character and who show true love for God and people, not necessarily those who are greatest in outward accomplishments (Luke 22:24-30). God’s love within Christ’s followers through the presence of the Holy Spirit is always of greater importance than faith, hope or any other spiritual discipline or character trait (Romans 5:5).
