(KJV) Leviticus 19:2

Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the Lord your God am holy.

BE HOLY / LEVITICUS / 19:2

The term “holy” suggests moral and spiritual purity. It means wholeness, separation from evil and dedication to God’s standards. God calls His people to be like Him and to reflect His character. To do this requires separating themselves from the ungodly customs and behaviors of the people around them and doing what God says is right. Love for God gives His people the will and desire to do this (Leviticus 11:44). This call to holiness was first given to Adam and Eve, who were created in God’s image, so they could reflect His character and relate to Him (Genesis 1:26). Every generation of believers should “be imitators of God” (Ephesians 5:1). Why? Because God says, “be holy because I, the LORD your God, am holy” (Matthew 5:48; Romans 12:1-2).
