DECEIVE / EPHESIANS 5:6

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Ephesians 5:6
Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.

DECEIVE / EPHESIANS 5:6

Paul looks ahead to a possible situation that could deceive the Ephesians and warns them that some teachers may say that they need not fear God’s anger and judgment against their immoral behavior. That is why he warns, “Let no one deceive you.” It is clear from this passage that a person may be deceived into believing that some who defy God’s standards of purity and morality do have an inheritance in Christ’s kingdom.

BE SURE / EPHESIANS 5:5

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DEVOTION

(KJV) Ephesians 5:5
For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

BE SURE / EPHESIANS 5:5

Paul and the Ephesians knew with unquestionable certainty that all individuals (whether within or outside the church) who were immoral, impure, or greedy were excluded from Christ’s kingdom. This refers to people who allow sensual or excessive desires of any kind to distract themselves from the truth. Such people show that they love things more than they love God; they are more determined to do what pleases them than to do what pleases God. The fact that such people have no part in God’s kingdom was taught with strong conviction by the Old Testament prophets (Jeremiah 8:7; 23:17; Ezekiel 13:10) and by the leaders of the New Testament church (1 Corinthians 6:9; Galatians 5:21). People who commit such sins give clear evidence that they are not spiritually saved (in a right relationship with God) but are separated from God and eternal life (John 8:42; 1 John 3:15).

DIED WITH CHRIST TO THE BASIC PRINCIPLES OF THIS WORLD / COLOSSIANS 2:20

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Colossians 2:20 Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances,

DIED WITH CHRIST TO THE BASIC PRINCIPLES OF THIS WORLD / COLOSSIANS 2:20

Notice that the types of rules Paul says do not apply to Christians are called “the basic principles of this world.” For the most part, these principles have to do with outward religious rituals, regulations, routines, and customs (“do not handle … taste … touch,” Colossians 2:21). By Paul’s time, they had become the extreme human-imposed guidelines of the Old Testament laws. However, the elaborate set of restrictions Paul addresses here were mostly the creation of the false teachers themselves. Relying on such rules – even God’s laws – in an effort to gain spiritual salvation or favor with God is called legalism (Mark 7:6). However, we must be careful not to misapply or abuse the spiritual principles behind Paul’s God-inspired instructions. For example, the fact that we need not follow outward physical regulations such as circumcision (Colossians 2:11; Galatians 2:4, 12: Philippians 3:2) or food restriction (Colossians 2:16; Romans 14:6; 1 Corinthians 10:25) does not excuse us from living by the moral standards of God’s commands. Following the commands does not save us spiritually; yet, if we are truly saved and in a right relationship with God, we will obey His commands out of and gratitude to Christ and because they are good and right (Romans 8:4). In addition, the freedom from rules about what to eat or what days to celebrate (Colossians 2:16) is not meant to mean “freedom” from standards that have true moral significance and spiritual consequences. Often, passages dealing with Christian freedom (1 Corinthians 8-10) are misinterpreted, abused, or taken out of context to justify behavior that truly does compromise or cross moral boundaries. Food simply goes in and out of the body and has little, if anything, to do with spiritual matters. However, when people try to apply this principle to morally questionable activities and behaviors that actually do affect the mind and spirit, they are seriously missing the point (Colossians 2:23; Romans 14:17; 1 Corinthians 8:7).

(KJV) Luke 19:41

And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it,

SAW THE CITY, HE WEPT / LUKE 19:41

Jesus, knowing that the people and their leaders expect a political Savior and will ultimately reject Him as God’s promised Messiah, weeps in pity for the people who will soon suffer terrible judgment. The word “wept” in Greek means more than shedding tears. It suggests deep sorrow, the heavy sobbing of a soul in agony. Jesus, as God, reveals not only His own feelings, but also His Father’s broken heart over the spiritual lostness of the human race and its refusal to turn to God and accept His gift of salvation (Mark 11:9).

Psalms 2 is a Messianic psalm, meaning that it prophesies the coming of God’s Messiah (“Anointed One”). Jesus Christ. God commissioned and empowered Jesus to rescue people from sin, restore their relationship with God and rule over God’s kingdom (Matthew 1:1).

STREAMS OF WATER / PSALMS 1:3

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Psalms 1:3

And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

STREAMS OF WATER / PSALMS 1:3

Those who faithfully pursue a deeper relationship with, and a better understanding of God’s Word will find guidance from the Holy Spirit. Since (in the Bible) water often represents God’s Spirit (John 7:38-39), those who spend time in His Word and follow His instructions will also receive from the Spirit spiritual refreshment and power for life, much like drinking water that satisfies a thirst. The phrase “whatever he does prospers” does not mean that problems or failures will never occur. It means that a godly person will know God’s purposes, experience His presence, and receive His peace. That is to say, that person will live in God’s plans for his or her life in a fulfilling way (3 John 1:2).

THIS WOMAN … SATAN HAS KEPT BOUND / LUKE 13:16

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

THIS WOMAN … SATAN HAS KEPT BOUND / LUKE 13:16

According to Jesus, it is a most serious offense against God when a person refuses to recognize and respond to suffering people (Luke 13:11-14). Jesus teaches that people are imprisoned by sin, sickness and spiritual death and are in distress and great need (Luke 13:11; Luke 13:16; Matthew 4:23; Acts 26:18). Today we are in serious danger of becoming unconcerned and insensitive to the world’s misery and suffering – particularly spiritually. While many people and organizations appear to be more involved than ever in charitable causes and humanitarian efforts, the media continued to pollute the culture with images of immorality and violence as a form of entertainment. As a result, the general society is deceived into thinking that they are all right, but in reality, they are becoming more insensitive and unconcerned about the value of human life and individuals, real needs. True followers of Christ will be like their Master – able to recognize the true threats and distresses of life and to respond with real help for people’s spiritual needs (Luke 10:33-37; Romans 8:22).

THIS CUP / 1 CORINTHIANS 11:25

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) 1 Corinthians 11:25
After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.

THIS CUP / 1 CORINTHIANS 11:25

Did Jesus use fermented or unfermented grape juice when He introduced the spiritual symbolism of the Lord’s Supper, communion (Matthew 26:26-29; Matthew 26:28; Mark 14:22-25; Luke 22:17-20; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26)? The following information supports the conclusion that Jesus and His disciples probably drank unfermented grape juice on that occasion.

  1. Neither Luke nor any other Biblical writer uses the word “wine” (Greek oinos) in referring to the Lord’s Supper (the “last supper” Jesus shared with His disciples before His death). The first three Gospel writers use “fruit of the vine” (Matthew 26:29; Mark 14:25; Luke 22:18), suggesting that it was pure, natural, and unfermented wine.
  2. The Lord’s Supper (which serves as a reminder of what Jesus did in giving His life for us, Luke 22:19; 1 Corinthians 11:24-25) was established when Jesus and His disciples were eating the Passover meal. The Passover law in Exodus 12:14-20 prohibited, during Passover week, the presence and use of seor (Exodus 12:15), a term used to refer to yeast or anything that can cause fermentation. In addition, all hametz (anything that contained fermentation) was forbidden (Exodus 12:19; 13:7). God had given these laws because yeast and fermentation often symbolized corruption and sin (Matthew 16:6, 12; 1 Corinthians 5:6-8). Since Jesus fulfilled the law in every respect (Matthew 5:17), it seems that He would have followed this law for the Passover and not have used fermented wine.
  3. The value of a symbol is determined by how well or correctly it represents the spiritual reality that one is attempting to communicate. Consider the fact THE BREAD REPRESENTING Christ’s pure body had to be unleavened (flat and unraised, unfermented, “uncorrupted” = made without yeast). To use unfermented wine would have been an effort to follow the same principle. After all, the wine symbolized the precious blood of Christ, without blemish or defect (1 Peter 1:18-19).

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Hebrews 10:29
Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

TRAMPLED THE SON OF GOD / HEBREWS 10:29

To keep on sinning deliberately after we have received the knowledge of the truth (Hebrews 10:26) is

  1. To be guilty of trampling on Jesus Christ (Hebrews 10:29), which means treating Him with contempt (hatred, disrespect, and rejection)
  2. To behave as if the blood of Christ – His sacrifice for us – is unworthy of our loyalty
  3. To insult and rebel against the Holy spirit, who brings God’s favor, love, and power to our lives. To reject Christ’s sacrifice is to reject the only sacrifice there is that can provide access to God and keep us in right relationship with Him.
