Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, Concerning the feasts of the Lord, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, even these are my feasts.
APPOINTED FEASTS OF THE LORD / LEVITICUS 23:2
This chapter describes Israel’s sacred days of celebration and worship. These days were symbols of their relationship with God and how He had set them apart for His purposes. The feasts also represented the fact that the Israelites and all they possessed belonged to God. There were two cycles of these feasts: a weekly cycle and an annual cycle. All of these sacred days involved feasts except for the Day of Atonement, which was the one day that the law required fasting (going without food to focus on spiritual matters). These festivals helped to tie their worship to the events in their daily lives. Godly worship must touch and influence every aspect of a believer’s life today as well.
