And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand.

A BLACK HORSE / REVELATION 6:5

The black horse and its rider symbolize great famine and its disastrous effects of hunger and suffering (Jeremiah 4:26-28; Leviticus 4:8-9; 5:10). Basic necessitates of life will be scarce and prices extremely high. Hunger will spread throughout the world. The oil and wine refer to the olive tree and grapevine, which are not hurt as much by drought as the grain and field crops. Though famines have occurred throughout history and the church age (Matthew 24:7), this passage is dealing with a specific famine at tits maximum destruction during the tribulation period.
