(KJV) Revelation 2:20

Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.

YOU TOLERATE THAT WOMAN JEZEBEL, WHO CALLS HERSELF A PROPHETESS / REVELATION 2:20

Again, as with the Ephesian church, we see believers who have been faithful to serve God but who also had serious spiritual issues. The Believers at Thyatira were praised for the spiritual growth that they showed in serving God (Revelation 2:19). However, their willingness to compromise on spiritual matters greatly displeased the Lord. There was tolerance (like those in Pergamum) of unbiblical teaching and the immoral lifestyles of those in positions of leadership (Revelation 2:14; Revelation 2:20).

  1. John calls one particular person “Jezebel,” derived from the Old Testament Jezebel whose name is a synonym for false worship, sensuality and manipulative control (1 Kings 16:31; 19:1-3; 21:10-15; 21:25). Some at Thyatira were accepting the seductive teaching of this person who undoubtedly claimed to speak for God but was bringing harm to sincere believers. Christ condemns this Jezebel and the freedom to sin that she represents, and he calls those who tolerated her to repent and turn back to God. 
  2. We must reject all spokespersons who put their own words above Biblical revelation and standard (1 Corinthians 14:29) and who claim that God accepts immoral behavior and lifestyles among professing Christians. Some in the church show an openness to tolerate such beliefs and teaching because it excuses their own questionable behavior and compromise with the world’s evil pleasures. Others will overlook this type of sin because of spiritual apathy, personal friendships or the fear of confrontation. Still others have completely selfish reasons for this unacceptable practice: self-promotion and material gain. God says He will judge such leaders and punish all who sin in these ways and do not turn back to God for forgiveness and change their ways (Revelation 2:20-23; Luke 17:3-4). 
  3. God takes it very seriously when anyone, but especially a professing believer, causes believers to sin by influencing them to do things that violate their own consciences or to engage in behaviors largely identified with ungodly practices (Matthew 18:6, 7; 1 Corinthians 8:12).
  4. In order to guard ourselves and our churches against these less obvious but destructive influences, we must regularly examine ourselves by asking: Has our ministry fruitfulness or success caused us to rationalize questionable behavior or to overlook personal or church-wide sin?
