The gates of the rivers shall be opened, and the palace shall be dissolved.
THE RIVER GATES / NAHUM 2:6
These gates apparently are the floodgates or dams that controlled the Khoser River, which ran through the city. They may have been closed to gather a large body of water and then suddenly released with tremendous force to damage the walls of the city.
