(KJV) 1 Peter 3:7

Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.

HUSBANDS – SO THAT NOTHING WILL HINDER YOUR PRAYERS / 1 PETER 3:7

HUSBANDS

Peter mentions three things about which husbands should be concerned in their relationships with their wives.

  1. The husband must be considerate and understanding, always showing a self-sacrificing, Christlike love for His wife, as directed in God’s Word (Ephesians 5:25-33; Colossians 3:19; Ephesians 5:21).
  2. The husband should treat his wife with respect as an equal heir of God’s gracious salvation and inheritance of eternal life. The husband must honor, provide for and protect his wife according to the wife’s needs. “Weaker” probably refers to the woman’s physical strength. The husband must help his wife fulfill her full potential in relationship with God.
  3. A husband must take the lead in submitting his own interests and concerns for the good of his wife and family. He must praise and highly treasure his wife, giving her every reason to love and help him according to God’s purposes for their marriage and family (1 Peter 3:1-6; Ephesians 5:23).
  4. A husband must never abuse his wife or treat her improperly in any way – physically, emotionally or spiritually. Peter teaches that a husband who fails to live with his wife in an understanding way and to give her proper honor as a child of God will damage his own relationship with God by creating a barrier between his prayers and God (Colossians 3:19).

SO THAT NOTHING WILL HINDER YOUR PRAYERS

Disunity and contention between husbands and wives not only affect their relationship with each other, but they also affect each of their personal relationships with God. In particular, it can block the effectiveness of their prayers, hindering God’s help and provision in their lives. Notice that God holds the husband primarily accountable for maintaining peace in the home.
