Receiving God’s kingdom like a child means accepting it in a simple and wholehearted way so as to turn from sin, receive Christ as Savior (the Forgiver of your sins), rely on Him as Lord (the Leader of your life) and follow God as your heavenly Father (Matthew 18:3).

KINGDOM OF GOD / MARK 10:14

But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.

KINGDOM OF GOD / MARK 10:14

In general, this refers to God’s supreme power and authority over all things and to His plans, purposes and way of life on earth and into eternity. Mark uses the term “kingdom of God” while Matthew generally uses the preferred Jewish expression “kingdom of heaven” (because the Jews were hesitant to use the name of God out of extreme reverence for the Lord). The meaning, however, is the same. Compare the following parallel passages (describing the same situations or events): Matthew 4:17 with Mark 1:15; Matthew 5:3 with Luke 6:20; Matthew 11:11 with Luke 7:28; Matthew 10:7 with Luke 10:9.

Anyone who divorces a spouse for anything other than Biblical reasons and then remarries sins against God by committing adultery (Malachi 2:14; Matthew 19:9; 1 Corinthians 7:15). God does not necessarily recognize a divorce as right or legitimate simply because the state (or any human institution) legalizes it. See Matthew 19:9, for a more thorough consideration of the issue and implications of divorce.

OUTSIDE THE CAMP / LEVITICUS 4:12

(KJV) Leviticus 4:12

Even the whole bullock shall he carry forth without the camp unto a clean place, where the ashes are poured out, and burn him on the wood with fire: where the ashes are poured out shall he be burnt.

OUTSIDE THE CAMP / LEVITICUS 4:12

Burning the sacrificial animal “outside the camp” symbolized the complete removal of sin. The New Testament relates this to Jesus’ suffering outside the gate (outside Jerusalem) in order to purify His people through His own blood (John 19:17-18; Hebrews 13:11-15). Christians also are called to “go to Him outside the camp.” This means that we are to leave behind the sinful pleasures of this world and identify with Jesus. By doing this, we are able to press on toward a heavenly city and to offer the “sacrifice of praise” and thanksgiving to God (Hebrews 13:13-15; Hebrews 13:13).

SIN OFFERING / LEVITICUS 4:3

(KJV) Leviticus 4:3

If the priest that is anointed do sin according to the sin of the people; then let him bring for his sin, which he hath sinned, a young bullock without blemish unto the Lord for a sin offering.

SIN OFFERING / LEVITICUS 4:3

God required sin offerings so that those who sinned unintentionally, or without realizing that they had broken the law (Leviticus 4:2), could receive forgiveness. On the other hand, intentional sins were punishable by death (Numbers 15:30-31; Hebrews 10:28). A guilt offering (similar to the sin offering) was used for those who had committed a sin or injury for which they themselves could provide full compensation or repayment (Leviticus 6:2-6; 5:15). Sin offerings also were necessary for ceremonial cleansing (Leviticus 12:6-8; 14:13-17; Numbers 6:11).

  1. The sin offering was a prophetic symbol pointing toward Christ’s atoning (“sin-covering” and “forgiveness-providing”) death by which He took the punishment for our sins. Unlike the Old Testament sin offering, Christ’s death provided a perfect, once-and-for-all covering for sin (Isaiah 53; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Ephesians 1:7; Hebrews 9:11-12).
  2. New Testament followers of Christ need the ongoing and continuing atonement that Christ’s blood provides to cover mistakes, weaknesses and unintentional failings that result from our weak human nature (Psalms 19:12). However, sins resulting from direct rebellion against God and His Word will lead to judgment and spiritual death. Only as we confess and turn away from them do we show that we are depending on Christ’s atonement to provide the forgiveness we need (Hebrews 2:3; 10:26, 31; 2 Peter 2:20-21).

For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.

Everyone will be salted (will suffer the sting of rejection or persecution) with fire in one of two ways: 

  1. Either by suffering for the cause of Christ and enduring the tough discipline of spiritual purification in this life that comes to those who truly follow Jesus (Luke 14:33-34; John 15:18-21).
  2. By the fire of hell in the next life, which comes to those who reject Jesus in this life (Mark 9:47-48).

 And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:

HELL / MARK 9:43

“Hell,” described as a place of unquenchable fire, is so terrible that every influence of sin – which separates people from God and destines them from hell – must be opposed and rejected, whatever the cost. Sin must be put to death in our lives (Colossians 3:5). To reinforce this point, Jesus uses a hyperbole (a figure of speech that makes a point by using exaggeration), showing that often sin can only be conquered by radical “spiritual surgery.” Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we must never stop our battle against sin (Romans 8:13; Ephesians 6:10). One of the highest priorities for Christ’s followers is to set an example for children by how they live, what they say and what they do. In doing so, they show a sincere love for them. Christian parents must also do their best to guard and protect their children from the ungodly influences of the world. This same principle applies to anyone who may be looking to us for an example of what it means to follow and sincerely love Christ (Matthew 18:6; Luke 17:2; Romans 14:20; 1 Corinthians 8:9). And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.

ONLY BY PRAYER / MARK 9:29

Jesus does not mean that a time of prayer was necessary just in this instance so they could command the evil spirit to release its control of the boy. An isolated time of prayer is not enough to develop that kind of spiritual power and authority. Instead, Jesus is talking about a principle: where there is little prayer, there is little faith. Where there is much prayer – based on true commitment to God and His Word – there is much faith. If the disciples had followed Jesus’ example and developed a strong and consistent prayer life, they could have had the spiritual power to deal successfully with this case.
