PRESENT HIM TO THE LORD / LUKE 2:22-23

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Luke 2:22-23 22 And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord; 23 (As it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord;)

PRESENT HIM TO THE LORD / LUKE 2:22-23

Just as Joseph and Mary went to the temple to dedicate Jesus to God’s service, all parents should sincerely dedicate their children to God and commit to raise them in a way that honors Him. They should pray continually that from the beginning to the end of each child’s life, they will commit themselves to Christ and be devoted to honoring Him and fulfilling God’s plans for them.

THEY SPREAD THE WORD / LUKE 2:17

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Luke 2:17-18

And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child. 18 And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.

THEY SPREAD THE WORD / LUKE 2:17

Jesus’ birth was not first announced to royalty or people of high social status and influence. It is likely that such people would have been preoccupied with other concerns. Intellectuals would have been skeptical, and authorities would have been insecure about what Christ’s coming would mean for their own position (King Herod, Matthew 2:13). But the shepherds were common people – the kind who would almost always receive Jesus’ message with more enthusiasm. They responded to the message by going to see what they had heard about. After they had seen Jesus, they spread the good news about Him without shame or hesitation.

A SAVIOR … CHRIST THE LORD / LUKE 2:11

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Luke 2:11

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

A SAVIOR … CHRIST THE LORD / LUKE 2:11

At his birth, Jesus is called “a Savior.”

  1. As savior, He has come to rescue us from sin and its most costly result: spiritual death and separation from God. This mission includes freeing us from Astan’s power, preserving us from the ungodly influence of the world, relieving us of fear, giving us victory over death and saving us from the final judgment for our offenses against God (Matthew 1:21).
  2. The Savior is also “Christ the Lord” – the only one worthy to be the leader and supreme authority in our lives. He has been anointed (set apart, commissioned, empowered) as the Messiah (“anointed one,” Savior) and the Lord who rules with love over His people (Matthew 1:1). No person can truly have Jesus as Savior while not submitting to His lordship. That is to say, He must be both the Forgiver of our sins and the Leader of our lives.

A MANGER / LUKE 2:6-7

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Luke 2:6-7

And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

A MANGER / LUKE 2:6-7

Christ was born in a stable – probably a cave- a place where animals were kept. The manger was a feeding trough for animals. The birth of the Savior – God in human flesh (John 1:1; John 1:14) – the greatest event in all history, occurred in the humblest of circumstances. Jesus was the King of kings (Revelation 17:14; 19:16), but He was not born like a king and did not live like a king by earthly standards. God’s people are also kings and priests in God’s kingdom and service (1 Peter 2:5, 9; Revelation 5:10), but in this life they must follow His example of humility and simplicity.

HOLINESS AND RIGHTEOUSNESS / LUKE 1:68-75

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Luke 1:68-75

Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people, 69 And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David; 70 As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began: 71 That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us; 72 To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant; 73 The oath which he sware to our father Abraham, 74 That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear, 75 In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.

HOLINESS AND RIGHTEOUSNESS / LUKE 1:68-75

The highest aim of our redemption (spiritual salvation, rescue from sin, restoration to a right relationship with God) is to be liberated from Satan’s kingdom and freed from his power (Acts 26:17-18) in order to serve God “in holiness and righteousness before Him all our days” (Ephesians 1:4). For believers, “holiness” refers to moral purity and integrity, spiritual wholeness, separation from evil and dedication to God. Walking in “righteousness” is maintaining a right relationship with God and doing what is right by His standards. All of God’s people must aim to live, with God’s help, a life of holiness and righteousness in an evil world. This holy life is lived out “before Him,” or with a constant awareness of God’s presence.

(KJV) Luke 1:67

And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying,

FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT / LUKE 1:67

Luke records how the Holy Spirit empowered many of the godly people associated with the birth of Jesus Christ (Luke 1:15; Luke 1:35; Luke 1:41,67; 2:25). After Christ’s ascension (His return to heaven), the way was opened for all of His followers to be filled with the Holy Spirit (Acts 1 – 2).

GOD MY SAVIOR / LUKE 1:46-47

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Luke 1:46-47

And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, 47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.

GOD MY SAVIOR / LUKE 1:46-47

In these words, Mary recognizes her own need of spiritual salvation. Just as anyone who ever lives, she too was a sinner who needed Christ as “Savior.” The idea that Mary was immaculately conceived (the notion that her soul was free from original sin and separation from God, which has been passed sown to all humans since Adam and Eve first defied God) and lived faultlessly is nowhere taught in God’s Word (Romans 3:9,23). This entire passage of “Mary’s Song” is one of four hymns, or songs of praise to God, preserved in Luke (Luke ;68-79; 2:14, 29-32). This hymn has become known as the Magnificat (the opening word in the Latin Vulgate translation), which means “glorifies.”

(KJV) Luke 1:38

And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.

AS YOU HAVE SAID / LUKE 1:38

Mary submitted herself completely to God’s will (what He desires and plans based on His character and purposes) and trusted His message. She willingly accepted the honor and the criticism that being Jesus’ mother would bring. Part o the criticism and rejection would likely come right away as her body showed signs of being pregnant before marriage (Luke 2:5; Matthew 1:18,19) through a miracle of the Holy Spirit. Young women in the church should follow Mary’s example in sexual purity, love for God, faith in His Word and a willingness to obey the Holy Spirit, no matter what He asks.

THE HOLY ONE / LUKE 1:34-35

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Luke 1:34-35

Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? 35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

The Miracle of the Unstained King

We live in a world heavily marked by brokenness. From our personal choices to the systemic failures we see on the news, human corruption is an undeniable reality. Every person enters this life carrying the weight of a fallen nature. Every person except One.

In the Gospel of Luke, we encounter a moment that completely altered the trajectory of human history. Mary, a young virgin, receives a staggering announcement from the angel Gabriel: she will give birth to the Messiah. Confused by the biological impossibility, she asks a very practical question in Luke 1:34: “How will this be, since I am a virgin?”

The angel’s response in Luke 1:35 unveils the foundation of our faith:

“The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.”

A Supernatural Act of Creation

Both Luke 1:27 and Matthew 1:18, 23 leave no room for ambiguity. Jesus was born of a virgin. This was not a standard human conception, but a sovereign, supernatural miracle worked directly within Mary’s body by the Holy Spirit.

Why does this matter so deeply to our theology? If Jesus had been conceived through normal human means, He would have inherited the spiritual corruption and sin nature passed down through Adam. He would have been another captive to sin, in need of a savior Himself.

By bypassing human lineage through this miraculous conception, God did something entirely new. Jesus entered our world as the Second Adam—fully human, yet completely free from the stain of original sin.

Pure, Perfect, and Purpose-Driven

Because of His divine origin, Gabriel calls the child the “holy one.” In a scriptural context, holiness means to be entirely set apart, pure, perfect, and utterly devoted to God’s purposes.

Jesus did not have to work His way toward perfection or overcome an internal inclination toward evil. He was born spiritually complete. He possessed a human mind and body that hungered, thirsted, and grew, yet His core identity remained entirely divine and unstained.

This absolute purity is what qualified Him to be our Savior. Only a lamb without blemish could make a perfect sacrifice for a broken world. Because He was free from spiritual corruption, He was able to bear the weight of our corruption on the cross. He became the bridge between an unholy humanity and a holy God.

Walking in His Holiness

The virgin birth is more than an ancient Christmas story; it is a declaration of God’s power to break the cycle of sin in our lives. The same Holy Spirit who overshadowed Mary now lives inside every believer. While we are not born sinless like Jesus, we are made holy through His sacrifice.

When you look at your own life and feel weighed down by past mistakes or persistent flaws, look back at Luke 1:35. Our God is a specialist in doing the impossible. He entered our broken lineage to offer us a clean slate.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, we stand in awe of Your sovereign power and perfect design. Thank You for the miracle of the virgin birth, and for sending Your Son, Jesus, into our world as the Holy One. We praise You that He came unstained by sin, free from corruption, and completely devoted to Your divine purposes so that He could become our flawless Savior.

Lord, forgive us for the times we surrender to the brokenness around us. We ask that the same Holy Spirit who worked miraculously in Mary would work deeply within our hearts today. Renew our minds, cleanse our actions, and set us apart for Your glory. May our lives reflect the purity and love of the One who saved us. In the holy name of Jesus, Amen.

HIS FATHER DAVID / LUKE 1:32-33

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Luke 1:32

He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:

The Eternal Throne: How Jesus Fulfills the Promise to David

For centuries, the people of Israel waited in the silence of unfulfilled anticipation. They held onto a ancient thread of hope woven through their scriptures: the promise of a coming Messiah. This Savior, the “Anointed One,” would not appear out of nowhere. God had explicitly declared that the Deliverer would be a direct descendant of King David.

In Luke 1:32-33, the angel Gabriel shatters centuries of silence with a breathtaking announcement to a young virgin named Mary:

“He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”

The Lineage of the King

God made a covenant with King David centuries earlier, promising that his royal lineage would endure forever (Jeremiah 23:5). Over generations, through exile and political ruin, that promise seemed mathematically impossible. Yet, the New Testament opens by meticulously tracing this exact bloodline (Matthew 1:1-16), proving that Jesus was legally and biologically the rightful heir to David’s legacy.

A Kingdom Without End

Earthly empires rise and fall, leaving behind nothing but ruins and history lessons. However, Gabriel emphasizes a critical shift in the nature of this final King. Jesus was not coming to establish a temporary political boundary. He came to launch an eternal reality. As the Son of the Most High, His authority surpasses human limitations, establishing a spiritual and cosmic kingdom that can never be shaken, overthrown, or diminished.

What This Means For Us Today

When we anchor our faith in Jesus, we are not following a clever myth or a temporary philosophy. We are serving the true, promised King of history. If His kingdom never ends, it means His protection, His mercy, and His sovereignty over your life will never run out. You can rest securely knowing that the chaotic shifts of our modern world are completely subordinate to the eternal reign of Christ.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

We stand in awe of Your perfect faithfulness. Thank You for keeping Your ancient promises and sending Jesus, the ultimate Son of David, to be our eternal King. We submit our lives to Your unshakeable kingdom today. When the world around us feels unstable, remind us that Your reign has no end and Your authority cannot be shaken. Protect our hearts, guide our steps, and rule over our lives with Your perfect peace.

In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
