Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.

WINE / ACTS 2:13

The word used for “sweet wine” (Greek gleukos) normally refers to unfermented (non-alcoholic, non-intoxicating) grape juice. Those ridiculing the disciples may have used this term rather than the common New Testament word for wine (oinos) because they believed that Jesus; disciples used only this type of wine. In addition, on a festival day like this, a typical Jew would not break his overnight fast (time without food) until 10:00 a.m., so it was extremely unlikely that a group of any kind would be drunk at such an early hour. While some outsiders may have truly thought the believers were drunk (Acts 2:14), others were probably being sarcastic when they used the term this way.

A VIOLENT WIND … AND … TONGUES / ACTS 2:2-3

(KJV) Acts 2:2-3

And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

A VIOLENT WIND … AND … TONGUES / ACTS 2:2-3

The external signs preceding the baptism in the Holy Spirit on this occasion showed that God was present and active in a powerful way. There were times in the Old Testament when fire had accompanied God’s presence (Exodus 3:1-6; Exodus 13:21; 1 Kings 18:38-39). Fire among the believers at this Pentecost may have brought all the more assurance that this was the presence of God. The “fire” may also have symbolized how God’s people were consecrated (set apart, purified) for the work and purpose of bringing honor to Christ (John 16:13; John 16:14) and of witnessing for Him (Acts 1:8; Acts 13:31). This first occasion of the baptism in the Holy Spirit is the only time tongues of fire are mentioned. However, speaking in tongues (using Holy spirit-inspired languages that were not learned) continued to accompany the baptism in the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:4; Acts 8:17; Acts 9:17; Acts 10:45- 46; Acts 19:6).

PENTECOST / ACTS 2:1

And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

PENTECOST / ACTS 2:1

Pentecost was the second great festival of the Jewish year. It was a celebration of harvest when the first fruits (first harvested crop or produce) of the grain harvest were presented as offerings to God (Leviticus 23:17). In a similar way, Pentecost symbolizes for the church the beginning of God’s spiritual harvest of souls in the world (people coming to know Him personally). The events during this particular Pentecost celebration marked a dividing line between the Holy spirit’s occasional presence and temporary empowerment on certain individuals, as seen in the Old Testament, and His continual presence and sustained empowerment now available to all of God’s people. On this particular day, He filled the believers with His presence and remained with them.

FOR PURIFICTION FROM SIN / NUMBERS 19:9

And a man that is clean shall gather up the ashes of the heifer, and lay them up without the camp in a clean place, and it shall be kept for the congregation of the children of Israel for a water of separation: it is a purification for sin.

FOR PURIFICTION FROM SIN / NUMBERS 19:9

Hebrews 9:13-14 contrasts the blood of Christ with the ashes of the red heifer. For the Israelites, the ashes were a ready means of purification. But New Testament believers have a much better means. We have the accessible fountain of Christ’s blood in which, by faith and repentance, we may find cleansing “from all sin” (1 John 1:7). By this cleansing we may draw near to God, receive mercy and find grace to help in our time of need (Hebrews 4:16; 7:25).

Because they were unclean, they were not able to draw near to God in worship (Numbers 19:11, 14, 16). A red heifer without any blemish was killed and burned outside the camp (Numbers 19:3-6). The ashes were kept, mixed with water (Numbers 19:9, 17) and sprinkled on those who were defiled (Numbers 19:12, 18). After being cleansed, the person could approach God once again. The book of Hebrews contrasts the superior cleansing effect of Christ’s blood to that of the ashes of the red heifer (Hebrews 9:13-14).

The priests and Levites were to have no earthly inheritance. God declared that He was their share and inheritance. In principle, this promise extends to all believers in Christ. Our inheritance is not on this earth, for we are but aliens (temporary residents) and strangers. We must seek heavenly things, for God dwells in heaven (Hebrews 11:9-16). Our witness is this: “I say to myself, ‘The LORD is my portion; therefore, I will wait for Him’” (Lamentations 3:24).

All the heave offerings of the holy things, which the children of Israel offer unto the Lord, have I given thee, and thy sons and thy daughters with thee, by a statute for ever: it is a covenant of salt for ever before the Lord unto thee and to thy seed with thee.

COVENANT OF SALT / NUMBERS 18:19

Salt represents preservation and permanence, highlighting that the covenant (God’s ‘life agreement” with His people based on His laws and promises to them and on their faithfulness and obedience to God) is lasting and unchangeable (Leviticus 2:13).

And the Lord spake unto Aaron, Behold, I also have given thee the charge of mine heave offerings of all the hallowed things of the children of Israel; unto thee have I given them by reason of the anointing, and to thy sons, by an ordinance for ever.

God determined that the priests and Levites be supported through the people’s offerings (Numbers 18:8-24). It is God’s design that people in the church today give to support those who lead and minister to them (1 Corinthians 9:13-14).
