(KJV) Malachi 3:8
Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.
WILL A MAN ROB GOD? / MALACHI 3:8
The people robbed God by failing to bring Him their tithes (one-tenth of their income). God’s law required tithing (Leviticus 27:30) as a means of honoring God and providing for those who served in ministry.
- God warned the people that they would face a curse if they selfishly refused to give (Malachi 3:8-9) and promised a blessing if they faithfully supported His work (Malachi 3:10-12).
Because the privilege and responsibility to honor God and the need for ministry has not changed, New Testament believers also are responsible to give in order to support the Lord’s work both in their local community and around the world (2 Corinthians 8:2).
