Ephesians 4:11-12
And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12Â For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
TO PREPARE GOD’S PEOPLE FOR WORKS OF SERVICE / EPHESIANS 4:11-12
This passage states one of the primary purposes for which Christ gives gifted leaders to the church. Those who have the ministry gifts mentioned in Ephesians 4:11 are not to do all the work of ministry for the people. Their primary role is to train and equip members of the church congregation to do ministry themselves, both inside and outside of the church. This ministry principle is a challenge to leaders in that they must release people into various roles of service. It is a challenge to people in the church in that they are to do more than simply sit back and receive ministry. They must seek an active role of service in the church, using their God-given abilities to help others and to build up the church.
