(KJV) Jude 1:12-13 These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots; 13 Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.

THESE MEN ARE LIKE / JUDE 1:12-13

These verses describe the corrupt teachers using six metaphors, or symbolic illustrations:

  1. “Blemishes at your love feasts” (1 Corinthians 11:21, 27; 2 Peter 2:13).
  2. “Shepherds who feed only themselves” – They were not feeding the flock (the people) for whom they were responsible a leader (Ezekiel 34:8-10).
  3. “Clouds without rain” – They promised refreshing truth but left people spiritually dry.
  4. “Autumn trees without fruit and uprooted” – Trees in that season should have been full of fruit, but they were spiritually dead.
  5. “Wild waves of the sea” – They were tossed by the winds of false belief, churning up moral filth and corruption.
  6. “Wandering stars” – Like shooting stars that appear for a moment but then disappear into darkness, these ungodly individuals will be shut out from God’s presence forever.
