But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.

THE WORLD HAS BEEN CRUCIFIED TO ME / GALATIANS 6:14

Though the cross is a popular symbol in the world, most people are not truly willing to identify with the suffering or the sacrifice of the Savior that it represents. The cross of Christ, representing the horrible death that Jesus suffered for our eternal salvation (Matthew 27:35; Mark 8:34), has actually set a dividing line between true Christians and the rest of the world. Identifying with Christ sets us apart from “the world” that is offended by and opposed to God, His purposes and His standard of truth (Galatians 4:3; 1 Corinthians 2:12; 3:19; 1 John 2:15-17).

  1. For those who boldly identify with Christ – who are willing to share in His sufferings (Romans 8:17; 2 Corinthians 1:7) and who base their lives on the truth of His message – the world loses its appeal. They no longer love and follow the world’s accepted standards, values, opinion, honors and lifestyles. 
  2. For us to be “crucified with Christ” (Galatians 2:20) includes being crucified to the world (dying to its desires, being freed from its control, becoming unresponsive to its influences). There is no sharing in the salvation and glory of Christ’s cross without turning our backs on all the earthly pleasures that draw our hearts away from Him, His presence and His purposes (Mark 8:34).
