(KJV) Mark 1:5

And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins.

THE WHOLE JUDEAN COUNTRYSIDE / MARK1:5

There had been no prophet in Israel for centuries (since the time of the last Old Testament prophet Michah, around 420 B.C.), so John’s ministry drew a lot of attention. As a result, there was a general spiritual awakening (a heightened interest in spiritual issues and renewed devotion to God) in Judea and Galilee. Israel’s spiritual climate particularly changed among the common people, helping to prepare the way (Mark 1:2-3; Mark 1:1) for the full revelation and ministry of God’s Son, Jesus Christ.
