THE HOLY ONE / LUKE 1:34-35

(KJV) Luke 1:34-35

Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? ³⁵ And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

Both Luke and Matthew state clearly and unmistakably that Jesus was born of a virgin (Luke 1:27; Matthew 1:18; Matthew 1:23). The Holy Spirit would work a miracle within Mary’s body, and the child would be conceived only by a supernatural act of God. As a result, Jesus would be completely “holy” (pure, perfect, spiritually complete and entirely devoted to God’s purposes, Luke 1:35); in His case, this meant that He came into the world unstained by sin (unlike all others born into the human race) and free from spiritual corruption.
