START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION
(KJV) Zephaniah 1:12
At that time I will search Jerusalem with lamps
and punish those who are complacent,
who are like wine left on its dregs,
who think, ‘The Lord will do nothing,
either good or bad.’
WILL DO NOTHING EITHER GOOD OR BAD / ZEPHANIAH 1:12
Some people in Judah had a deistic view of God (the view that God is detached from His creation, that He simply lets the world run its course and is not actively involved in people’s lives). As a result, they believed that God would not punish their sin.
- Those who had this attitude would come to a fearful discovery and understanding on the day of judgment, when they realized that God certainly did hold them accountable for their actions.
- We too need to know that God is not distant from us or uncaring about our lives. He allows us to make our own choices, but He patiently watches over us, ready to direct our lives if we will depend on Him. God will reward those who yield their lives to Him and pursue a deeper relationship with Him; but He will punish those who reject or turn from Him to follow their own evil way (Romans 2:5-11).
