(KJV) John 16:14

TAKING FROM WHAT IS MINE / JOHN 16:14

The Holy Spirit reveals to believers more about Jesus. Through the Spirit, Christian’s experience Jesus’ presence, love, forgiveness, character, power, spiritual gifts, healing and all other benefits of our faith and relationship with Christ (John 14:16; John 14:17; John 14:18; John 14:21; John 14:23). The Holy Spirit does not draw attention to Himself, but He brings honor to Christ. The Spirit makes us more aware of Jesus’ presence in our lives, which will strengthen our faith and inspire us to love, obey and worship God with more passion.

HE IS A LIAR AND THE FATHER OF LIES / JOHN 8:44

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) John 8:44
Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

HE IS A LIAR AND THE FATHER OF LIES / JOHN 8:44

Lying is specifically mentioned as a characteristic of the devil; he is the source of all dishonesty and deceit (Genesis 3:1; Genesis 3:4; Genesis 3:5; Genesis 3:6; Acts 5:3; 2 Thessalonians 2:9-11; Revelation 12:7-9). This means that lying, cheating and other forms of dishonesty are totally opposed to the mind and nature of God, who is truth (Revelation 19:11). An unconcerned attitude about the sin of lying is one of the unmistakable symptoms of an ungodly condition. It is a sign that the person is not “born of the Spirit” (John 3:6) but is under the influence of Satan (John 4:24; Revelation 22:15).

EVERYONE WHO SINS / JOHN 8:34

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) John 8:34

Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.

EVERYONE WHO SINS / JOHN 8:34

The New Testament clearly teaches that the Lord Jesus Christ Himself breaks the power and control of sin in the lives of His true followers (John 8:31-32,36; John 8:32). Individuals who habitually sin are still slaves to sin and are still allowing themselves to be under Satan’s influence and control (1 John 3:6-10; 1 John 3:8). Those who accept Christ’s forgiveness and enter a personal relationship with Him, based on His death and resurrection, will experience freedom from sin as the continue to rely on Him (Romans 6).

HOLY SPIRIT / JOHN 14:26

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

HOLY SPIRIT / JOHN 14:26

The Counselor is in=identified here as the “Holy Spirit.” For New Testament Christians, the most important thing about the Spirit is the fact that He is “Holy.” That is to say, our relationship with the Holy Spirit is not simply about what He does or provides for us (His power, Acts 1:8), but about His character and who He is – “The Holy Spirit.” When referring to God, holiness means purity, perfection, completeness and separation from evil. The Holy Spirit’s character, along from evil. The Holy Spirit’s character, along with the expression of that character in the lives of Christ’s followers, is what matters most (Romans 1:4; Galatians 5:22-26). Those who serve Jesus and have the Spirit living in them must reflect His holiness through moral purity, spiritual wholeness and integrity, separation from evil and devotion to God’s purposes. When the Spirit’s character is evident in the lives of Christians, they will have greater spiritual power and be more effective in communicating Christ’s message to others (which is the primary purpose of the baptism in the Spirit; Acts 1:8).

I WILL ASK THE FATHER – COUNSELOR / JOHN 14:16

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) John 14:16

And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

I WILL ASK THE FATHER – COUNSELOR / JOHN 14:16

I WILL ASK THE FATHER

John 14:15 suggests that Jesus will ask the Father to give the Counselor only to those who truly love Him and obey His Word. Jesus uses the present tense in John 14:15 (“If you love me”) to point out the need for a continuing attitude of love and obedience.

COUNSELOR

Jesus calls the Holy Spirit “another Counselor,” just as Jesus Himself had been for His disciples. The title “Counselor” translates the Greek parakletos, meaning literally “one called alongside to help.” This is a rich word that refers to a wide range of spiritual roles, such as Counselor, Strengthener, Comforter, Helper, Adviser, Advocate, Intercessor, Ally and Friend. The Greek word for “another” is allon, meaning “another of the same kind,” rather than heteros, meaning “another of a different kind.” Therefore, the Holy Spirit, like Jesus, is also God and will continue what Christ Himself did while on earth.

  1. The Spirit is a personal being who will be by the disciples’ side to help and strengthen them (Matthew 14:30-31), to teach them the truth and guide the course of their lives (John 14:26), to strengthen and comfort them in difficult situations (John 14:18), to intercede (to plead a case for them) through prayer (Romans 8:26-27; 8:34), to be a friend who promotes their best interest (John 14:17) and to remain with them forever.
  2. The word “parakletos” is applied to the Lord Jesus in 1 John 2:1. Jesus is our helper and intercessor (an advocate who pleads our case and represents us) in heaven (Hebrews 7:25), while the Holy Spirit is our helper and intercessor on earth (Romans 8:9; Romans 8:26; 1 Corinthians 3:16; 6:19; 2 Corinthians 6:16; 2 Timothy 1:14).

JESUS HAD NOT YET BEEN GLORIFIED / JOHN 7:39

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) John 7:39

(But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

JESUS HAD NOT YET BEEN GLORIFIED / JOHN 7:39

This refers to the glory and honor Jesus would gain by dying on the cross for our sins (John 12:23-24) and being raised from the dead. Jesus had to complete His work on earth before the Holy Spirit could begin His work in the church. It is also true in individual lives today: one cannot receive the Spirit until he or she deals with sin (until it is confessed to Christ, forgiven and abandoned). “The Spirit” refers to all the work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of believers, including spiritual birth and renewal (John 20:22) and the baptism in the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:4). For an overview of the Holy Spirit’s involvement in people’s lives.

(KJV) John 7:38

He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

AS THE SCRIPTURE HAS SAID – STREAMS OF LIVING WATER / JOHN 7:38

AS THE SCRIPTURE HAS SAID

Jesus is referring to the gift of the Holy Spirit that would be given to His followers after He left the earth (John 16:7). The Spirit guides and empowers Christ’s followers in a way that allows them to experience his overflowing life. As Christians respond to the Spirit’s direction and exercise His power, this “living water” will “flow” out to others with the spiritually healing, life-giving message of Jesus Christ (John 10:10; John 14:12; John 15:5; Psalms 1:3; Psalms 46:4; Isaiah 32:15; 44:3; 58:11: Jeremiah 31:12; Ezekiel 47:1-12; Joel 3:18; Zechariah 14:8).

STREAMS OF LIVING WATER

Jesus is referring to the gift of the Holy Spirit that would be given to His followers after He left the earth (John 16:7). This Spirit guides and empowers Chrit’s followers in a way that allows them to experience His overflowing life. YOU ARE GODS? / JOHN 10:34

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) John 10:34

Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?

YOU ARE GODS? / JOHN 10:34

Jesus is not teaching that His followers are to consider themselves gods. On the contrary, those who declare themselves to be gods – or who live like they are their own gods – will fall under God’s severe judgment (Jeremiah 10:11).

  1. Jesus was quoting from Psalms 82:6 in reference to the judges (other leaders and rulers) who were appointed by God for specific tasks (Exodus 22:8; Deuteronomy 1:17; 2 Chronicles 19:6 where God gives His leaders and judges authority to carry out responsibilities on His behalf). How much more should Jesus be recognized as God, since He was sent by the Gather to fulfill His highest mission of spiritual justice and salvation.
  2. In this passage, Jesus uses the phrase “you are ‘gods’” in speaking to corrupt rulers who were biased toward ungodly people and were even cruel to children (Psalms 82:1-4). These rulers, who acted as if they were gods, would eventually suffer judgment and die (Psalms 82:7; 82:6).
  3. To declare oneself a god is the ultimate sin of the antichrist (2 Thessalonians 2:4, 11).

(KJV) John 14:24

He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me.

HE WHO DOES NOT LOVE ME / JOHN 14:24

Those who do not obey Christ’s teachings do not truly love Him, and without love for Jesus a person cannot truly possess saving faith (faith that actively entrusts one’s life to Christ and leads to a personal love relationship with Him; 1 John 2:3-4). People deny the truth of God’s Word if they say or believe that people can remain spiritually saved even though they live in ways that contradict His commands and teachings. The Holy Spirit will not remain in a person who lives in disobedience to God.

REMAIN IN MY LOVE / JOHN 15:9-10

The only faith-filled response to Christ’s love is to obey His commands. It is His love that provided the opportunity for our spiritual salvation and a personal relationship with Christ. Our obedience is a large part of maintaining that relationship and fulfilling God’s purposes for our lives (John 14:15, 21, 23). Obedience and love must always go together in our relationship with God (1 John 2:5; 5:2-3).
