HE WHO DOES NOT LOVE ME / JOHN 14:24

START YOU DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) John 14:24

He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me.

HE WHO DOES NOT LOVE ME / JOHN 14:24

Those who do not obey Christ’s teachings do not truly love Him, and without love for Jesus a person cannot truly possess saving faith (faith that actively entrusts one’s life to Christ and leads to a personal love relationship with Him; 1 John 2:3-4). People deny the truth of God’s Word if they say or believe that people can remain spiritually saved even though they live in ways that contradict His commands and teachings. The Holy Spirit will not remain in a person who lives in disobedience to God.

SERVE AS SIGNS / GENESIS 1:14-15

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

SERVE AS SIGNS / GENESIS 1:14-15

God intended for the sun, moon, and stars to serve as signs drawing humankind’s attention to Him. They also marked days, seasons, and years. Astrology, the study of stars and things in heaven and their influence of human activity, has twisted these intended purposes with the false theory that the stars and planets guide individuals’ lives.

LET THERE BE LIGHT / GENESIS 1:3

LET THERE BE LIGHT / GENESIS 1:3

The Hebrew word for “light” is ‘or which refers to the first waves of light energy that came on the earth. Later, God placed “lights” (Hebrew ma ’or, literally, light-bearers, Genesis 1:14) in the heavens. Some were to produce light, and others were to reflect light. The primary purpose of these light-bearers was to mark seasons, days, and years (Genesis 1:5, 14).

(KJV) Colossians 1:13-14
Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

FROM THE DOMINION OF DARKNESS / COLOSSIANS 1:13-14

Central to our spiritual salvation and renewed relationship with God is our rescue and liberation from the power and control of Satan and his forces of evil (Matthew 4:8-11; Matthew 4:10; Luke 22:52-53; Ephesians 2:2; 6:12). We are now in Christ’s kingdom and under His rule (Romans 6:17-22; Acts 26:18).

MY ROCK MY FORTRESS AND MY DELIVERER / PSALMS 18:2

START YOU DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

MY ROCK MY FORTRESS AND MY DELIVERER / PSALMS 18:2

The symbolism of this verse applies to our ongoing life struggles against physical and spiritual forces. God’s care for us is described by six symbols:

  1. “My rock” – representing the safety and security of God’s steadfast strength (Psalms 31:2-3; 42:9; 62:7)
  2. “My fortress” – representing a place of refuge and safety that the enemy cannot penetrate
  3. “My deliverer” – representing God’s ability to rescue and free people from trouble.
  4. “My shield” – representing how God Steps between us and harm (Genesis 15:1)
  5. “Horn of my salvation” – representing God’s strength and victorious power to save us

“My stronghold” – representing the fact that if we hold firmly to God and remain in a right relationship with Him, He will provide security and will lift us above the dangers of life.

THE LORD OUR GOD, THE LORD IS ONE / DEUTERONOMY 6:4

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Deuteronomy 6:4
Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:

THE LORD OUR GOD, THE LORD IS ONE / DEUTERONOMY 6:4

This verse – along with Deuteronomy 6:5-9; 11:13-21; Numbers 15:34-41 – teaches monotheism. This doctrine proclaims that God is the one true God, not a group of different gods. He is all-powerful among all the gods and spirits of the world (Exodus 15:11). This God must be the single object of Israel’s love and obedience (Deuteronomy 6:4-5). This aspect of “oneness” serves as the basis for keeping Israel from the worship of other gods (Exodus 30:3). It does not contradict the New Testament revelation of God as a triune (three-in-One) being who, though one in essence (nature or basic quality), is revealed as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Matthew 3:17, Mark 1:11).

GREED, WHICH IS IDOLATRY / COLOSSIANS 3:5

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Colossians 3:5
Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

GREED, WHICH IS IDOLATRY / COLOSSIANS 3:5

Throughout the Bible, idolatry refers to worshiping false gods, images of gods or anything else in place of the one true God. It represents open, unashamed rejection of God and defiance toward Him, and it is worthy of severe judgment. So, what does idolatry mean in practical terms for us today?

  1. It means giving priority to anything in place of God. It is allowing things to become the focus of one’s desires, values, and dependence, taking the place of reliance on and faith in God Himself (Exodus 20:3-6; Deuteronomy 7:25-26; Isaiah 40:18-23). For this reason, greed is called idolatry.
  2. Idolatry can involve people claiming to be loyal to God and His Word while at the same time giving equal or greater loyalty to persons, institutions, traditions, or earthly authorities. Nothing may be given higher priority in life than one’s relationship to God and His Word as revealed in the Bible (Romans 1:22-23; Ephesians 5:5).

ANYONE WHO DOES WRONG / COLOSSIANS 3:25

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Colossians 3:25
But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.

ANYONE WHO DOES WRONG / COLOSSIANS 3:25

Within family, church, school, employment, and all other social relationships (Colossians 3:12-25), God expects His people to show love, justice, and fairness to one another. If taken seriously, these verses would eliminate much of the unloving and unjust treatment of others. Specifically, we learn that:

  1. Mistreatment of others by Christians is a serious matter affecting our future in heaven (2 Corinthians 5:10).
  2. Those who treat others in love and goodness will receive a reward from the Lord (Colossians 3:24; Ephesians 6:8).
  3. Anyone who mistreats and does wrong to another believer “will be repaid for his wrong.” Those who are guilty of such behavior will be judged and will bear the consequences without bias or partiality (Deuteronomy 10:17; 2 Chronicles 19:7; Acts 10:34; Romans 2:11).
  4. The fact of future accountability to God should motivate our love, kindness, and mercy toward all human beings (Galatians 6:7; Matthew 22:37, 39; John 13:34).

DECEIVE / EPHESIANS 5:6

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Ephesians 5:6
Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.

DECEIVE / EPHESIANS 5:6

Paul looks ahead to a possible situation that could deceive the Ephesians and warns them that some teachers may say that they need not fear God’s anger and judgment against their immoral behavior. That is why he warns, “Let no one deceive you.” It is clear from this passage that a person may be deceived into believing that some who defy God’s standards of purity and morality do have an inheritance in Christ’s kingdom.

BE SURE / EPHESIANS 5:5

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DEVOTION

(KJV) Ephesians 5:5
For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

BE SURE / EPHESIANS 5:5

Paul and the Ephesians knew with unquestionable certainty that all individuals (whether within or outside the church) who were immoral, impure, or greedy were excluded from Christ’s kingdom. This refers to people who allow sensual or excessive desires of any kind to distract themselves from the truth. Such people show that they love things more than they love God; they are more determined to do what pleases them than to do what pleases God. The fact that such people have no part in God’s kingdom was taught with strong conviction by the Old Testament prophets (Jeremiah 8:7; 23:17; Ezekiel 13:10) and by the leaders of the New Testament church (1 Corinthians 6:9; Galatians 5:21). People who commit such sins give clear evidence that they are not spiritually saved (in a right relationship with God) but are separated from God and eternal life (John 8:42; 1 John 3:15).
