THE SPIRIT OF HOLINESS / ROMANS 1:4

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Romans 1:4

And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:

THE SPIRIT OF HOLINESS / ROMANS 1:4

The “Spirit of holiness” refers to the Holy Spirit, the third person in the divine Trinity (the one true God in three distinct, interrelated and unified persons, Mark 1:11). His holiness (purity, perfection, completeness and separation from evil) separates Him distinctly from the spirit of humanity, sin and the world, and describes both His greatest characteristic and His work (Galatians 5:16; Galatians 5:17; Galatians 5:18; Galatians 5:19; Galatians 5:20-21; Galatians 5:22-24). The Holy Spirit’s power was on and in Jesus’ life in such a way that it unmistakably confirmed His identity as God’s Son who came as the Christ (the promised Savior). This power was particularly evident through Jesus’ resurrection from the dead.

The Holy Spirit reveals to believers more about Jesus. Through the Spirit, Christian’s experience Jesus’ presence, love, forgiveness, character, power, spiritual gifts, healing and all other benefits of our faith and relationship with Christ (John 14:16; John 14:17; John 14:18; John 14:21; John 14:23). The Holy Spirit does not draw attention to Himself, but He brings honor to Christ. The Spirit makes us more aware of Jesus’ presence in our lives, which will strengthen our faith and inspire us to love, obey and worship God with more passion.

HIS WITNESSES TO OUR PEOPLE / ACTS 13:31

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Acts 13:13
And he was seen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people.

HIS WITNESSES TO OUR PEOPLE / ACTS 13:31

A witness (Greek martus) is “one who testifies by actions or words to the truth.” Christian witnesses are those who confirm and testify to the spiritually saving work of Jesus Christ by word, actions, lifestyle and, if necessary, even death. Witnessing involves seven principles:

  1. Christian witnessing is the responsibility of all followers of Christ (Acts 1:8; Matthew 4:19; Matthew 28:19 Matthew 28:20).
  2. Christian witnesses must be missionary-minded (Acts 13:2; Acts 2:3), determined to communicate the massage of Christ to all people of all cultures in all nations – to the ends of the earth (Acts 11:18; Acts 13:2; Acts 2:3; Acts 2:4; Acts 26:18; Matthew 28:19; Matthew 19:20; Luke 24:47).
  3. Christian witnesses speak mainly about the meaning of Christ’s life, death, resurrection, saving power and promised gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:32, Acts 2:38; Acts 2:39; Acts 3:15; Acts 10:39-41, 43: Acts 18:5; Acts 26:16; 1 Corinthians 15:1-8).
  4. Christian witnesses must allow the Holy Spirit to work through them to bring conviction (to expose and convince people of their spiritual need). This concerns their guilt in regard to sin against God, their need for a right relationship with Him through Christ and their ultimate accountability to God (Acts 2:37: Acts 2:38; Acts 2:39; Acts 2:40; Acts 7:51; Acts 7:53-54; 24:24-25; John 16:8). This kind of God-inspired witness will challenge people to respond to God with faith and to accept a personal relationship with Him (Acts 2:41; Acts 4:33; Acts 6:7; Acts 11:21).
  5. Christian witnesses at times will suffer (Acts 7:57-60; Acts 22:20; 2 Corinthians 11:23-29). The word “martyr” (one who dies for a cause of belief) comes from the Greek word for witness. Discipleship involves commitment, no matter what the cost.
  6. Christian witnessing must involve separation from the ungodly practices of the world (Acts 2:40). It must stem from a life that follows God’s standards of right and wrong (Romans 14:17) and relies totally on the Holy Spirit (Acts 4:29; Acts 4:29 – Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your … (biblestudytools.com); Acts 4:31; Acts 4:33). As a result, God’s presence and power will be obvious in the life of the witness (1 Corinthians 2:4).
  7. Christian witnessing is prophetic in that it involves using one’s voice to honor God through the power (Acts1:8) and inspiration (Acts 2:4; Acts 4:8) of the Holy Spirit.

THE POWER OF THE LORD WAS PRESENT / LUKE 5:17

THE POWER OF THE LORD WAS PRESENT / LUKE 5:17

The word translated “power” (Greek dunamis) means “might, power or strength.” In the New Testament, it is most often used of God’s power. The plural, dunameies, is used to describe Jesus’ miracles. The gospel (“good news” and message) of Christ is God’s power for salvation (Romans 1:16). The Holy Spirit gives powerful gifts and ministries in and through Christ’s followers. The power (dunamis) of God is directly related to the ongoing healing ministry of Jesus through His church (Acts 4:33; Acts 5:12-16; 6:8).

AFTER DESIRE IS CONCEIVED / JAMES 1:15

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) James 1:15

Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

AFTER DESIRE IS CONCEIVED / JAMES 1:15

James uses the analogy of the birthing process to describe what it is like to go from temptation to spiritual destruction. Ungodly desires can lead to moral deception, then to evil deeds, and in the end to spiritual death. This means that if we do not rely on the Holy Spirit for strength to overcome selfish and ungodly desires, we begin to believe Satan’s lies and fall into his snares. If we continue in this wrong direction, we will forsake God’s standards and purposes for us. This process, if not broken through submission to God (James 4:7), eventually results in spiritual destruction and death (Romans 6:23), which is eternal separation from God.

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) James 1:14

But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

BY HIS OWN EVIL DESIRE / JAMES 1:14

We are capable of being affected by Satan’s temptations because of the sinful nature within us (our inborn tendency to go our own way and to defy God and His standards; see Romans 5:12; Romans 6:2; Matthew 15:19). If we follow the pull of our nature toward defiance and rebellion, temptation will take us down a road that leads to sin and finally to spiritual death (James 1:15; Romans 6:23; Romans 7:5, 10, 13).

TEMPTED / JAMES 1:13

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) James 1:13
Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:

TEMPTED / JAMES 1:13

There is a significant difference between trials (James 1:2; James 1:4) and temptations (James 1:13-15).

  1. Trials typically result from outside sources beyond our control and are something to be endured with faith. In fact, trials test our faith and develop perseverance and maturity. By relying on God to help us through trials, we will grow spiritually, develop character and will finally receive “the crown of life” (James 1:12).
  2. In contrast, temptations often stem from inner moral struggles involving ungodly desires and are something to be resisted. Satan uses temptation to stir up evil desires within us and encourage us to defy God. If temptations are not resisted, the end result is spiritual “death” (James 1:14-15) and separation from God.
  3. God is not the source of temptation; temptation comes from Satan and our own ungodly desires. God is the source of that which is good (James 1:17-18). No person who sins can escape guilt by trying to blame God. Though God may test us and allow us to go through trials in order to strengthen our faith, it is never with the intent of leading or tempting us to sin. God’s nature and holiness mean that there is nothing in His character to which sin can appeal, which means that He cannot be a source of temptation.

(KJV) Genesis 1:10

And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.

IT WAS GOOD / GENESIS 1:10

Seven times God states that what He created was “good” (Genesis 1:4,10,12, 18, 21, 25, 31). Each part of God’s creation was exactly as He intended. God created the world to reflect His glory (beauty, splendor, wonder) and greatness. It was also His plan for the world to be a place where humankind could experience life and joy. Notice how God created according to a specific plan and order:

Day 1 – Light – Bringing order to creation

Day 2 – Expanse

Day 3- Dry Ground

Day 4 – Light bearers

Day 5- Fish and birds – Bringing life to creation

Day 6 – Animals and humans

Day 7 – Rest – Creation is complete and good

(KJV) James 1:4

But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

YOU MAY BE MATURE / JAMES 1:4

The word “mature” (Greek teleios) reflects the Biblical idea of the growth or development of the person’s faith to the point of spiritual maturity. But to grow spiritually suggests that there is a right relationship with God that results in one’s wholehearted effort to love Him completely (Mark 12:30). That effort works out in the way we show our constant love, devotion, obedience and Christlike character in all circumstances (Deuteronomy 6:5; 18:13; Matthew 22:37; 1 Thessalonians 2:10).

The ultimate punishment to the followers of the beast is terrifying (Revelation 14:9-11). This is a challenge to all followers of Christ to rely completely on Him so they can endure whatever comes, while continuing to “obey God’s commandments and remain faithful to Jesus.” For their loyalty to Christ during the great tribulation, they will probably die.
