THE FIRST MONTH OF YOUR YEAR / EXODUS 12:1-2

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Exodus 12:1-2

And the Lord spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt saying, 2 This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you.

THE FIRST MONTH OF YOUR YEAR / EXODUS 12:1-2

Exodus 12 describes the Feast of the Passover (Exodus 12:1-14, 21-28) and the Feast of Unleavened Bread (Exodus 12:15-20). These celebrations were based on the historical events of the first Passover (when God spared the Israelites from harm) at the time of the exodus (Exodus 12 – 14). Because the Passover marked a new beginning for Israel, the month in which it occurred (March – April in our calendar) became “the first month” of a new year for the nation of Israel. The Lord wanted to remind Israel that their place as God’s people and their existence as a nation were the result of God miraculously rescuing them from Egypt.

The apostle admonishes the church that Christians must not be lazy. Instead, they must be hardworking, conscientious and productive people as part of their testimony and influence for Christ (Titus 3:14). They must work hard in order to provide for themselves and their families and to contribute to God’s work and help others in need (1 Corinthians 16:1; 2 Corinthians 8:1-15; Ephesians 4:28).

For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.

These people were even worse than the “idle” and lazy people because they interfered in other people’s business, which is often a result of having too much idle time.

WHO IS IDLE / 2 THESSALONIANS 3:6

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) 2 Thessalonians 3:6

Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us.

WHO IS IDLE / 2 THESSALONIANS 3:6

Those who were idle were people who were lazy and unwilling to work. Some were too proud to do certain types of work, and others thought that Christ’s soon return meant that they did not need to occupy themselves with working to make a living. As a result, they were taking advantage of the church’s generosity (1 Thessalonians 4:9-10) and receiving support from others who made a living by faithful labor in their various occupations (2 Thessalonians 3:6-15). 

  1. Paul says that, as an act of discipline and correction, we must keep away from lazy people and not associate with them (2 Thessalonians 3:6, 14).
  2. Although Paul encourages the believers to help those in real need, he does not teach that Christians ought to give food or money to able-bodied people who refuse to work faithfully for a living (2 Thessalonians 3:10). This principle applies just as much today.

EASTER SUNDAY APRIL 20, 2025

Easter Sunday is one of the most festive events among Christians worldwide. It commemorates Jesus Christ’s resurrection from death, as written in the Bible.

Many Christians worldwide celebrate Easter with special church services, music, candlelight, flowers and the ringing of church bells. Easter processions are held in some countries such as the Philippines and Spain. Many Christians view Easter as the greatest feast of the Church year. It is a day of joy and celebration to commemorate that Jesus Christ is risen, according to Christian belief.

Although Easter maintains great religious significance, many children in countries such as Australia, Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom, think of it as a time to get new spring clothes, to decorate eggs and to participate in Easter egg hunts where eggs are hidden by the Easter Bunny. Some children receive Easter baskets full of candy, snacks, and presents around this time of the year.

The good news of Easter, and every day, is that Jesus died for the sins of humankind and was resurrected. His resurrection shows that He is the promised Messiah, Savior, and divine Son of God.

A common belief is that Easter is about bunnies and eggs, a day that celebrates the coming of spring. Although Easter egg hunts are fun, and the blooming flowers are beautiful parts of God’s creation, there is something infinitely better to celebrate — the cross and the empty tomb.

On Easter, Christians gather to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The day is joyous with praise and thanksgiving for the gift of salvation that we receive through Jesus’ death and resurrection. Christians celebrate and declare this good news because it is foundational to our faith and hope.

Without the resurrection of Christ, we would still be lost in our sins and hopeless. Therefore, Easter is important to Christianity because it reminds us of Jesus’ resurrection, which impacts all areas of our faith and life.

The good news of Easter, and every day, is that Jesus died for the sins of humankind and was resurrected. His resurrection shows that He is the promised Messiah, Savior, and divine Son of God.

Also, the truth of the empty tomb is vital to our salvation and foundational to our faith. Because He lives, we have hope, life, and an everlasting relationship with the One who loves us most. That is worth celebrating!

Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you:

PRAY FOR US / 2 THESSALONIANS 3:1

Paul was able to accomplish what he did for Christ partly because of the prayers of God’s people. He was fully aware that God’s plans and purposes for his life and ministry would not be fully realized without the faithful prayers of fellow believers (Romans 15:30-32; 2 Corinthians 1:11; Colossians 4:2; 1 Thessalonians 5:25). This spiritual principle of God’s kingdom is valid today. We need the prayers of other Christians, and they need our prayers. With faithful intercession in the churches (prayer for others’ needs and concerns), God’s desires will be accomplished, Satan’s purposes will be defeated (2 Thessalonians 2:3) and the Holy Spirit’s full power will be revealed (Acts 4:24-33).

FIRSTBORN … WILL DIE / EXODUS 11:5

And all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the first born of Pharaoh that sitteth upon his throne, even unto the firstborn of the maidservant that is behind the mill; and all the firstborn of beasts.

FIRSTBORN … WILL DIE / EXODUS 11:5

When God Himself delivered the final judgment on the Egyptians, the firstborn son of every family would die. This would be a terrible shock to the Egyptians because the firstborn normally inherited a family’s leadership responsibilities. God’s judgment was, in part, a consequence of the Egyptians’ cruelty in drowning the Hebrews’ male babies many years before (Exodus 1:22). The Egyptians were experiencing the harsh consequences of how they had treated others.

PROPHET … RIGHTEOUS MAN / MATTHEW 10:41

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Matthew 10:41

He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward.

PROPHET … RIGHTEOUS MAN / MATTHEW 10:41

These servants of God (prophets) are the most frequently rejected, mistreated and persecuted because of their strong stand for godliness and truth (Matthew 5:10). Those who accept prophets (who often speak a challenging message of purity, warning or judgment) and respond with spiritually open hearts to their messages will receive God’s special reward. The same is true of anyone who receives a person who does and says what is right. 

  1. If your commitment to truth is so firm that you devote your life to working with and encouraging God’s ministers, then your reward will be the same as that of the prophet or righteous person you help. In fact, Christians will be rewarded for even the smallest kindness shown to another person if it is done with the pure motive to show Christ’s love (Matthew 10:42).

However, we should not support or encourage ministers who do not proclaim God’s truth according to the New Testament message or who do not live godly lives according to God’s standards. Supporting such people can expose us to the same judgment and destruction (2 John). This does not mean that we have a right to be harsh or critical toward a minister or to withhold support from the local church simply because we do not agree with the minister or because we do not agree with the minister or because he or she does not say what we want to hear.

Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.

I DID NOT COME TO BRING PEACE / MATTHEW 10:34

Although Jesus Christ is called the “Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6; Matthew 5:9) and He came to restore our broken relationship with God and bring us peace with Him (Romans 5:1), His coming and His message also bring division. 

  1. Faith in Christ separates His followers from those who continue to follow the ungodly ways of the world (Matthew 10:32-37; Luke 12:51-53).
  2. The preaching of God’s Word and its truth will bring opposition, division and persecution (Matthew 12:24; 14:4-12; 27:1; Acts 5:17; 7:54-60; 14:22).
  3. Living according to Christ’s standards of truth and right will bring ridicule and scorn from those who reject Christ (Matthew 5:10-11). 
  4. Defending the truth of God’s Word against spiritual distortion and false teaching will bring division, even within the church (2 Corinthians 11:12-15; Galatians 1:9; Philippians 1:15-17; 2 Timothy 1:15).

Christ’s teaching about peace, unity and spreading His message in love (Ephesians 4:15) must be presented with the serious realization that He “did not come to bring peace, but a sword” (John 17:21).
