PRAYERS OF ALL THE SAINTS / REVELATION 8:3

(KJV) Revelation 8:3

And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne.

The repeated mentioning of the prayers of the saints (God’s “holy ones”; Revelation 5:8; Revelation 8:3-4) indicates that the prayers of God’s people are extremely important in enacting God’s purposes and plan for the destruction of evil and the establishment of true justice and righteousness on the earth (Revelation 5:8). Some interpreters consider the silence in heaven at the opening of the seventh seal as a time of God giving priority to the prayers of His people. These prayers are about to have a direct effect on what happens on the earth (Revelation 8:5).

1. John mentions the prayers of all the saints, which seems to indicate that the prayers of those enduring the tribulation on earth are joined by the intercession (prayer for others’ needs and situations) of those in heaven (Revelation 6:9; Revelation 6:10; Revelation 6:11). The saints in heaven are vitally concerned about the events on earth. This passage may also imply the prayers of God’s people of all time who have prayed for His purposes and justice to be carried out. 
2. Note that God, in some sense, stores up our prayers. Although the Lord may not answer all our prayers immediately, He does not throw them aside but keeps them for fulfillment at the proper time. 
3. If God answers His people’s prayers for His justice (Revelation 6:10), how much more will He answer our prayers for His mercy to be revealed to those who do not yet know Christ. He desires, above all ese, that they would receive His forgiveness and entrust their lives to Him so that they too can escape the judgment to come. In fact, He is patiently waiting even now, allowing more time for people to turn to Him (2 Peter 3:9). Just as the prayers of God’s people will have a direct effect regarding end-time judgments, they also have a direct effect on those for whom we pray to be saved before those times arrive.
