I HAD TO BE IN MY FATHER’S HOUSE / LUKE 2:49-51

(KJV) Luke 2:49-51

And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business? ⁵⁰ And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them. ⁵¹ And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.

Jesus was not dyeing His parents; this was a time when His higher mission in life took priority over what was convenient. He had come to earth to fulfill His heavenly Father’s purposes; that was His primary duty. Notice how Jesus contrasted “my Father” (God) with Mary’s “Your father” (Luke 2:48). This was not a matter of disrespect because even at age 12 Jesus was aware of His unique relationship to God. Still, He obeyed His parents when they came to take Him home (Luke 2:51).
