HOLINESS AND RIGHTEOUSNESS / LUKE 1:68-75

(KJV) Luke 1:68-75

 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people, ⁶⁹ And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David; ⁷⁰ As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began: ⁷¹ That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us; ⁷² To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant; ⁷³ The oath which he sware to our father Abraham, ⁷⁴ That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear, ⁷⁵ In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.

The highest aim of our redemption (spiritual salvation, rescue from sin, restoration to a right relationship with God) is to be liberated from Satan’s kingdom and freed from his power (Acts 26:17-18) in order to serve God “in holiness and righteousness before Him all our days” (Ephesians 1:4). For believers, “holiness” refers to moral purity and integrity, spiritual wholeness, separation from evil and dedication to God. Walking in “righteousness” is maintaining a right relationship with God and doing what is right by His standards. All of God’s people must aim to live, with God’s help, a life of holiness and righteousness in an evil world. This holy life is lived out “before Him,” or with a constant awareness of God’s presence.
