In keeping with the principle of love for others, we must give to those in need (2 Corinthians 8:2). God Himself will measure our giving and in return will give back to us. Though God’s blessing will not always be evident by visible material gain, our rewards from Him will be in proportion to our active concern, generosity and help to others (2 Corinthians 9:6). The illustration of pouring into the lap probably refers to the way an outer garment was worn, leaving a large fold over the belt that could be used as a large pocket to hold an amount of grain.
